the secret the fitness industry will NEVER tell you..

In this YouTube presentation, Lucas Wilhelm Hedenbäck recounts his personal experience of following the mainstream fitness nutrition playbook—high‑protein, low‑calorie, powder‑laden meals—and the severe health fallout he endured despite strict discipline. He explains how the industry’s focus on macros, calorie targets, and artificial supplements ignores fundamental biology, leading to hormonal suppression, gut dysfunction, chronic fatigue, low libido, and poor skin. Hedenbäck argues that the model persists because it serves product‑selling interests and is based on the physiology of enhanced bodybuilders, not the average person. He then introduces a "vitality‑first" framework that prioritizes seasonal whole foods, real fats and carbs, adequate sunlight, sleep, and digestion support. By aligning nutrition with the body’s natural needs, his energy stabilized, cravings vanished, hormones rebounded, and his physique improved effortlessly—evidenced by his ability to complete an Ironman while looking lean without intensive training. He outlines concrete pillars for transitioning: stop tracking macros, re‑introduce real fats (butter, ghee, egg yolks, red meat, olive oil), eat seasonally, match carb intake to light exposure and stress, prioritize sleep and sunlight, and support gut health. The talk concludes with client case studies demonstrating rapid improvements, a call‑to‑action for personalized coaching, and a final challenge to cut out processed “trash” and let health become the by‑product of a biologically aligned lifestyle.

The traditional fitness nutrition model is one of one of the best and fastest ways to fuck up your health, and I don't say that as an outsider. I say it as someone who followed it perfectly to a T. To the left here, I was doing everything the fitness industry told me. I was listening to all these bodybuilders, everyone in the industry pushing high protein, low calories, chicken and rice and broccoli, protein powders. Cereals, post-workout, high-protein pizzas, artificial sweeteners, just to name a few of the things. Here we see it: post-workout Cocoa Puffs, pre-workout protein powder, and cereals. I even have— I even had to make these like low-calorie, high-protein recipes every single night to just kill my cravings because I had so insane cravings. I just had to have something filled with gums, Sweeteners, sweeteners, bullshit chemicals, and high protein pizza. You get the point. I was doing everything I was told, and this was the results. Sure, looked somewhat fit. Looks like I've been working out a bit from the outside, but the most important thing is internally. I felt absolutely terrible. Absolutely terrible. Inflamed, low energy, low libido for a 20-year-old guy. That should be illegal. This should be my peak years. Brain fog, dependent on energy drinks and caffeine and pre-workouts just to function. I wasn't lazy, I wasn't inconsistent, I was just following a broken model. I would probably even argue that I was more disciplined here than here. But like most people, I also thought that the solution was very simple— just more effort, more discipline, balls to the walls, go at it. And that's the biggest lie, because the traditional fitness nutrition model doesn't fail because people aren't disciplined enough. I wasn't— it was not like I wasn't disciplined. It fails because it's rewarding looking fit short-term Whilst quietly destroying how you feel, your hormones, your energy long term. You can look fit and still be completely hormonally wrecked. And the real problem is that the industry is stuck in a model that ignores your biology completely because your body doesn't recognize powders, sweeteners, or macro targets. It responds to nutrients, minerals, light, real food, because health isn't built by hitting numbers. It's built by supplying your mitochondria with inputs they actually evolved to use. And when I stopped eating for vanity and started eating for vitality, absolutely everything changed. Seasonal whole foods, real fats, real carbs, food that actually supports hormones, digestion, and energy. And the irony, when energy stabilized, hormones rebalanced, cravings disappeared, that's when my physique actually started To improve. Now I'm walking around looking like this year-round without even trying. As I said, like I can guarantee you I was more disciplined here to the left. I'm not as disciplined here to the right as I am, but I'm focusing on the right thing, and I've broken broken free from the from the bad bullshit model that you're sold. Now more irony to this to this little story also here. I get comments every single day. I'm on steroids. I'm on peptides. What I'm doing is not natural. The biggest irony on this is that when I started my journey, like this, this was my my goal. I wanted to become a bodybuilder actually. That was my goal. I wanted to get huge. I was doing everything I could to get huge. I didn't get huge right now. I'm not even trying. I'm building muscle. I'm staying lean. I'm getting comments like this every single day. The funny part is, like, the last year I've barely even been training. So a couple months back I completed an Ironman, which means that the last 1.5 years I've barely been training. I've just been— or of course I've been training, but like 1 to 2 times per week, just keeping what I have and focusing a lot on endurance, which it's not super healthy. But this just proves my point that my physique is a byproduct of actual health, of true health from the inside. Right? It's not putting in all the work. It's not being the most disciplined. It's most not being the one putting the most amount of effort into what I'm doing. It's a byproduct of me truly being healthy from the inside. So you know, running an Ironman looking like this, when you have everything dialed, your body wants to look good, right? You're you naturally want to look good. So because that always comes as a byproduct of you actually being healthy from the inside. It's the same thing here. You know, back in the days, my skin was absolutely terrible. Now I'm looking like this. You can just. See the the health difference in right now compared to a couple years ago. Absolutely insane. Look like looks like I'm underdeveloped child being you know in his twenties, and then fast forward two three years. This is how we're looking, right? I get comments all the time. What's your skincare routine? What's everything like this? I don't have a skincare routine. I don't do anything. I just focus on eating good. Food. So this is the thing that no one tells you, right? When your biology is aligned, your body wants to look good. You don't force aesthetics; you earn them by getting healthy from the inside. And once you see this, you can't unsee it. Impossible. So let's move on. The traditional fitness nutrition model. Let's look at what the mainstream fitness model actually promotes—not what it claims, but what it produces: macros over micronutrients, calories over context, powders instead of food, artificial sweeteners instead of. Carbohydrates, chronic restriction viewed as discipline, eating the same way year-round regardless of stress, season, or sleep. On paper looks good, looks scientific. In practice, it treats the body like a spreadsheet. A spreadsheet sheet, with my knowledge, doesn't have hormones, it doesn't have a nervous system, it doesn't have digestion, it doesn't have stress levels to take care of. So what actually happens, and what does this do to your body when you follow this? Well, first of all, hormonal suppression. Chronic undereating downregulates your testosterone. Low fat, impaired hormone signaling. No cholesterol, no building block for your hormones. Artificial sweeteners disrupt insulin and appetite signaling, messes up your gut microbiome, so you're not going to be able to digest the food you're eating. Cortisol and nervous system damage. High training volume plus low calories—that's not a good combination. Stimulants, masking exhaustion, no recovery buffered. Your nervous system never downshifts. You live in fight or flight, and you call it productivity. Liquid calories, protein powders instead of whole foods, ignoring gut health. You eat clean but bloat after every meal. That's not normal. That's dysfunction. Metabolic downregulation. Years of restriction, metabolism adapts downwards, fat loss becomes harder the more you try. You end up stuck eating more than ever, yet afraid to eat less again. Same thing here. Here I was doing exactly this. Once again, here I'm focusing on true health and vitality first. So why does this model even exist? It's a very good question we should be asking ourselves. And the truth is that this model didn't— it has nothing to do with biology. It's fostered by bodybuilders and by the industry to be able to sell you products. And the bodybuilders, they're all enhanced people with artificially elevated recovery capacity, Hormonal output and nutrient partitioning. Then it got handed to a normal human with job, family, real-life stress, real lives, and that is the mismatch that messes everything up because that mismatch is why so many people feel broken. You're executing on something that isn't structured for you. So what is the real solution then? Well, the opposite of this model isn't letting go. It's to fix the real root cause. It's upgrading, upgrading your biology, eating to support energy, hormones, digestion, and nervous system function first. Because when vitality comes back, the aesthetic will follow. So this is the reframe that I want you to make. Your body doesn't need punishment. It needs the right inputs. That is what's going to create the outcome. You've heard me say this multiple times already. This is my core quote and statement: If you're healthy from the inside, a good physique becomes a byproduct every single day of the week. So what is going to change when you actually make the switch to this framework and do these things? Well, after a few weeks, your energy is going to be stabilized. Your cravings are going to disappear. Your sleep is going to be deeper and better and more restorative. Your skin is going to be clear. Libido returns, training feels productive instead of draining, and the ironic part, that's when muscle growth becomes easier. That's when fat loss finally sticks. You're not even trying, you just get the results as a byproduct of you actually being healthy from the inside. So how do we actually transition out of the broken model and into the new, better one? Well, you don't fix this by swinging to the opposite extreme. You fix it by restoring the basics. High level, no micromanaging. Add back real fats: butter, ghee, egg yolks, red meat, olive oil. Eat seasonally. This is one of the things that most people miss. More carbs with more light, less when stress is high and low light. I can't be copying now living in Sweden when there's snow outside, it's very cold. I can't be copying what someone is doing right now that lives in the around the equator tropical environment eating fruits and meats and all these things. Right now, if I were to eat a shit ton of fruits, fast sugars, all these things right now, I would completely mismatch my metabolism and my mitochondrial output because I'm not primed to be able to digest that. Because I, for that to work, I need to have proper light exposure. So eating seasonally is one of the most underrated things that no one is talking about. We got to replace powders with real food. Stop chronic restriction. Cycle intake based on season as well. Support digestion before chasing performance. It doesn't matter what you're eating if you're not able to actually absorb it. Prioritize sleep and sunlight over any hacks. These core foundational pillars will give you more than any small hack or small trick will ever, ever do. So no tracking, no obsession. Proper alignment. The biggest rule I have for seasonal living as well that I always get questions on is like just focus on eating what you can find around you, right? I can't find a banana out in the woods right now in Sweden, therefore I'm not going to eat it. What do we have right now? We have abundance of roots, apples, stored stuff, sauerkraut, a lot of meat, dairy products. Perfect, super simple. That's what I'm sticking to. So here's the truth that also most fitness marketing won't admit. Never. When hormones are balanced and mitochondria are firing, the body wants to look good. Once again, muscle builds naturally. Fat burns without force. You don't have to micromanage your body when it trusts you. I'm showing you this because once again, like, I'm not even trying to look to look big and or to look to look aesthetic. This is a byproduct of all the inputs that I do from a health perspective. I've shifted my focus from trying to look good. To how can I actually feel good? That's the biggest. Like here, I was chasing aesthetics. I was chase chasing needing to get big, wanted to get big. I don't even try. I've just completed an Ironman once again, and I'm keeping this shape without even trying. Zero effort. And that is on the other side of you doing the right things. Because at the end of the day, the real flex is not just the shredded abs year round. It's cool to have, but it's not the real flex. The real flex is high energy, strong libido, clear skin, calm focus, deep sleep. And that's what real health looks— real health looks like. And that's what happens when you stop fighting your biology and start working with it and aligning it properly. This is health. Then this comes as a byproduct. So if you follow this framework and you add back these things and you do exactly what I told you here and execute this for a year, this is exactly what's going to happen. You're going to have stable energy, you're going to have better sleep, you're going to have higher libido, clearer thinking, your physique— it's going to be a night and day difference. You're going to have less stress around food. You're going to have confidence that carries into business and life, not necessarily because you were more disciplined or you tried harder, but because you stopped fighting your biology. And you followed a clear framework and a roadmap. It's this simple. Back to the roots. And if you want to do this on your own, you absolutely can. Everything I just shared works, and I have multiple other things on my channel that I give away for free. But if you want a personalized roadmap, a clear, clear weekly priorities training and nutrition structure for your exact life, zero decision fatigue, accountability, and refinement, that is exactly what I do with my coaching clients. Then we have Joel, business owner from Sweden. Same thing here. Thomas, 40 years old. No excuse. Mert lost a ton of fat. Nick, a business owner from the Netherlands, same thing here. Tonda, Ata, Malek, Edward, the list goes on. Jonas, Rasmus, same thing here. Working out consistently for years without proper progress, focusing on— you can, like, you can see the skin here as well. It's a bad picture, but you see the skin, and then you compare to here, clear. Absolutely insane. Looking a million bucks. Same thing with Leo, showing up consistently for years. Leo's a doctor from Brazil. 3 months later, boom. Javier as well. Now we have me. These are just to name a few.
