Why Your Diet and Training Aren't Producing Results

Lucas Wilhelm Hedenbäck explains why identical diets and training programs produce different results in different people. The difference isn't the food or workouts, but your gut health, hormone balance, sleep, stress, and inflammation. Two people with the same program won't see the same gains if one has gut dysbiosis and leaky gut while the other absorbs nutrients efficiently.

2 people can eat exactly the same, same food, same portion, same time of the day. They can train exactly the same, but what happens inside their body is completely different. How can this be the case when the inputs are similar? How can 2 people do exactly the same thing and get 2 completely different outcomes? This is a lesson that I wish someone told me earlier, and this is exactly what I'm going to break down for you in this video. So let's paint the example. We have Person A. Person A breaks the meal down efficiently. The protein goes directly towards muscle repair and recovery. The nutrients get absorbed and utilized. The hormones get the raw materials they need to function. Energy is stable for hours after eating. And then we have person B. Person B eats exactly the same thing, exactly the same meal, but the same food feeds the wrong bacteria. It sits in the gut that cannot break it down properly. It passes through a lining that is too permeable, leaking compounds into the bloodstream that triggers inflammation. The protein never reaches the muscle. The nutrients pass through without being absorbed. And that meal, the exact same meal, contributes to gut dysbiosis. drives more inflammation, makes the system worse. Same food, completely different outcomes. So what is the difference? Well, it's obviously not the food. It was never about the food. It's the condition of the system receiving the food. And this is the thing that nobody in the fitness industry and nobody in the nutrition space wants to talk about, because the fitness industry is built on a simple equation: train hard, eat well, get results. And that equation is not wrong, it's just very incomplete. Because that equation assumes both people are starting from the same state, the same gut environment, the same nervous system state, the same hormonal foundation, and the same sleep quality and the same stress load. And they are not. They never are. You can have the most dialed-in training program in the world. You can hit your protein targets every single day. You can eat clean whole foods and avoid everything you're supposed to avoid. And if your system is dysregulated, your gut cannot break down and absorb what you're eating. Your muscles cannot utilize the protein you're consuming. Your hormones cannot function on the raw materials you're providing. Your training stimulus cannot produce the adaptation it should. The inputs are going in, but the system cannot use them. It's like pouring premium fuel into an engine with a cracked cylinder. The fuel is perfect, the engine cannot utilize it. This is why 2 people can follow the exact same program, same training, same nutrition, same calories, same protein, and 30 days later look and feel completely different. One is leaner, sharper, more recovered, more energized, and the other is inflamed, flat, stuck, and frustrated. And the frustrated one looks at successful for one and thinks they must be doing something different, or they have better genetics, or they have some other external variable that they want to blame this on. But they are— but this has nothing to do with what is on their plate or what is in their program. It's the invisible inputs, the things nobody's measuring, the things no specialist has ever asked about, and the things that do not show up on a standard blood panel. Nervous system state, sleep architecture, circadian rhythm, stress load, gut environment, mineral balance, hormonal signaling, and recovery capacity. These are not secondary variables. these are the primary variables. And training and nutrition, the things everyone is obsessed with, are inputs into a system that these variables control. So if we get the system right, then your training produces results it never did before. Your food actually starts to fuel you. Your recovery actually happens. Your hormones actually function. Your body actually responds. Keep ignoring the system and you can optimize your macros forever and never fully get where you're trying to Go. So stop asking what to eat next. Stop asking what program to follow next. Stop asking what to remove or add or track or measure at the surface level. Start asking the question that actually leads somewhere: Why is my system struggling to utilize what I'm already giving it? Because that is where the answer has been the whole time—not in the food, in the system receiving it. So before you start focusing on optimizing the surface-level peaks and tweaks to your training and nutrition, make sure. Sure the more scalable variables are actually in your favor. This is exactly how I view nutrition and training. They are not very scalable inputs. You can only train so well, you can only eat so well. It's about how much of that food can we actually utilize, how much of that training can we actually recover from. All these small variables around that will actually create the masterpiece. And when I shifted my focus towards viewing health and training and nutrition like this, everything changed because I stopped Focusing on the surface level, tip of the iceberg variables and started focusing on the big block underneath that no one sees.
