Your Gut Will Never Heal Unless You Fix This One Thing

Lucas Wilhelm Hedenbäck argues that chronic gut problems stem from a dysregulated nervous system, not food alone. He presents a five-step framework: eat in a relaxed state, lower stress load, simplify meals, fix your circadian rhythm, and align training with recovery. His clients saw rapid improvements in bloating and energy when they reset their nervous system.

If you're struggling with some gut issues right now, I'm gonna fill you in on a little secret and a little lesson that I wish someone told me earlier in my in my health journey because when I first got started and started started focusing on my health, I had no clue what I was doing or yeah, I had on paper right. I was training training good. I was eating perfectly on on paper. According to all these bodybuilders and roided-up fitness influencers that I was listening to, I was doing everything right. So I thought, right? But I hadn't really cracked the code and understood that there's more to health than just training and eating, right? It's not just about what we eat, it's about what we absorb, which kind of ties into one of the topics we're going to go over here today, which is that your gut problems most likely aren't actually from food. And once again, when I started, I thought the answer to everything was just more discipline, stricter diet, Harder training, more optimization. Meanwhile, in my case, my nervous system was completely fried. Cortisol was sky high. Recovery was terrible. Libido was nonexistent for a 20-year-old guy. You know, shouldn't be the case. That should be the peak years. And my digestion was trash. Bloating, brain fog, diarrhea, constipation. Like everything just went in cycles. I couldn't figure anything out. I had brain fog. And the more stressed I became, the worse everything ended up being. The worse my gut got. And that's when I finally started realizing and started to question everything and started understanding that gut health cannot just be about food. Because this was when the nutrition part wasn't really super, super dialed, but also when I dialed in nutrition. I was eating perfectly. I still had these issues. And I just started to think to myself, like, I'm doing everything perfectly. I'm eating perfectly. Like, why am I not getting the results that I wanted? And then my whole— from my journey was, you know, I just made a complete 180 in my goals, right? My first initial goal was to become a bodybuilder, wanted to get big muscles, whatever. Then I was like, fuck this shit. I just want to feel good. The only thing that I care about is just feeling good. I want to have laser-sharp energy, laser-sharp focus, and just feel good in my day-to-day life. And that was exactly the, the change, the internal change that I made. And that led me to starting focusing on different things rather than just training and nutrition. I started to focus on the whole, the whole, your whole health as a whole puzzle, not just those 2 puzzle pieces together. And funny enough, when I shifted my focus, everything changed, right? I got the physique that I had always wanted and chased. By focusing on completely different things. And that just naturally came as a byproduct of me actually being truly healthy from the inside. So without further ado, let's dive into today's topic. And before, before we go any further, if you're new to the channel, first of all, welcome. My name is Lucas. I'm just a regular guy from Stockholm, Sweden. And over the last 5 to 6 years, I've dedicated almost all my time and energy to try to figure out this complex thing called health. And all I do on this channel is break those lessons and learnings down So you can just walk away with actionable steps and implementations and apply to your life and finally fix your issues. So if you watch this video to its fullest, you're going to understand or you'll get a full game plan on exactly how to, how to fix your gut issues step by step process. So let's do it. But before we want or we go down to that, I want to make something very, very clear. Nutrition obviously matters, right? Gut problems are actually a food problem is my first is the first statement here. But nutrition matters a lot. Most people never even get the basics right. So if you've already cleaned up your diet, removed processed foods, and started eating whole foods, you're already ahead of 95% of the people. That's a good thing here. But here's the problem: most people think that if I eat healthy enough, my gut should automatically heal. And logically, it makes a lot of sense. Good inputs, good output, right? But your gut is not just a food processing machine. Your gut is a control, or your gut is controlled by your nervous system. And this is the piece almost nobody talks about, because if your nervous system is dysregulated, your body physically cannot digest and utilize food properly. I don't care how organic the steak is. I don't care how clean your carbs are. I don't care how seasonal and local everything is. I don't care how many supplements you take. If your body is stuck in survival mode, your digestion will suffer. It's like putting premium fuel into a car with the handbrake on. The fuel is great; the system receiving it is the problem. This is exactly what I see with entrepreneurs, high performers, business owners, and ambitious guys. They're eating clean, training hard, trying all the gut protocols, but their nervous system is running 100 miles per hour 24/7, and their gut completely reflects that. And if you're watching, you probably already eat clean than almost everyone you know. Probably, maybe you've even tried to remove seed oils, gone carnivore, tried low FODMAP. Cut out gluten, cut out dairy, maybe taking probiotics, prebiotics, digestive enzymes. You've been eating the sauerkraut, the bone broth, the L-glutamine, but your gut is still a mess. You're bloated after meals that should be, you know, quote unquote healthy if you look at it. You get brain fog after eating, your energy crashes in the afternoon. Maybe you've developed acid reflux out of nowhere just after eating. Loose stools, constipation, food sensitivity, and you're probably sitting there and like questioning everything. And you probably everything gets worse the the more hectic your life gets when work ramps up, when business gets busy, when you're overwhelmed, everything just collapses. And this explains one thing, and I I pinned I want to pin this example. For you, we have here on these plates, we have obviously it's the same, the same photo, same, same, same exact meal. But I want to put this into perspective. So we have situation 1, situation 2. Situation 1 here, stressed between meetings, eating the food obviously between meetings, rushed directly after the workout under LED light inside in front of screens and eating whilst listening to podcasts or watching something. And then we have situation two: calm, relaxed, some slow breaths before eating. Ideally, we eat this grounded outside in the sun and not whilst we're multitasking. Same exact food. There's going to be two completely different outcomes in your body and how everything responds based on which of these situations you execute on. Because what this is going to do is it's going to set off a chain reaction in your body, right? This is going to affect your digestion, which is going to affect how much nutrients you pick up or picking up, which is going to impact recovery, which is going to impact your hormones, which is going to impact your sleep, which is going to impact all these other things. So this is like the first domino in just a spiral that either goes in a positive way or in a negative way. And this is how we have to think about health. It's not just about that one thing. It's about what domino and ripple effect is this setting off? What's happening after this? And this is where most people go wrong. And on the internet, what I, what I see, because everyone just focuses on the surface level things, right? You go to a GI doctor. I've seen this so many times with clients. You go to a gut doctor, okay, they take a look at the gut. They don't take a look at anything else. What is it that is actually triggering the gut issues in the first place? That's what we have to look. What is the first ripple that then manifests as the gut issues? And in this case, obviously it's stress. And before we— yeah, we have to understand what this actually Is and why it destroys your your gut. Sorry if I'm looking away all the time. It's to keep keep track of of the little girl here. Yeah. So to understand this, you need to understand one thing: your body has two primary primary nervous system states. We have the parasympathetic and the sympathetic. Parasympathetic is rest, recover, digestion, healing. This is where stomach acid increases, enzymes work properly, bile flows, nutrient absorbs correctly, the gut lining repairs. This is the state your body needs. To heal. Sympathetic fight or flight. This is stress, survival, urgency, overstimulation. Here's the problem with this: most people today are stuck in the second state constantly. Think about modern life. Think about your life. Notifications, emails, work pressure, overstimulation, caffeine, poor sleep, blue light, overtraining, doom scrolling, stress all day long. Work, work, work, work, work. Business meetings, this, that. Back and forth, doing multitasking throughout the whole day, never finding a little calm space. Everything is just wired, and constantly we have to to be as efficient as possible and do as many things as once as as possible to to not waste our our time or whatever excuse we we have, right? And your body interprets all these things as danger. When the body perceives perceives danger, it downregulates digestion because digestion is not a survival priority. Your body literally redirects blood flow away. Away from the gut. This is how most modern day look: screens, just working, multitasking, doing everything. This is what we're missing: nature, calm, relax, being outside. And now, when we're not getting that and when we're getting it constantly activated, our stomach acid will drop, enzyme production drop, bile flow slows, motility slows, and the gut lining repairs slower. So now you eat your healthy meal. And your body can't process it properly. That creates bloating, reflux, fermentation, gas, constipation, loose stools, food sensitivity. And this is why some people suddenly become intolerant to foods they handled fine before. The food didn't suddenly become toxic, the environment changed. So you maybe have some food like rice or whatever it might be that you just like, you can't eat it right now. And you're thinking to yourself, this was no problem for me 10 years ago, 5 years ago, whatever, however long it was. But now, out of nowhere, it just seems like your body has become sensitive to it. Most likely, it's not food sensitivity itself; it's another thing that is manifesting through a sensitivity to that food. So this is also why the best of the best food, like food and nutrition, requires context because you can eat the best of the best steak, eggs, whatever, but that best of the best food can still cause gut dysbiosis, SIBO, SIFO. Bacterial overgrowth, leaky gut. If the system receiving it is not optimized to receive it, right, then it doesn't matter. So I usually say this, but I'd rather see most likely someone eat fucking McDonald's eating calm, relaxed, chill, rather than eating the best of the best stuff in front of a screen super super stressed, right? This is also why so many gut protocols fail long term, because you probably tried once again probiotics, carnivore, low FODMAP, glutamine, bone broth, antimicrobials, digestive enzymes, and maybe some of it helped temporarily, but then the symptoms came back. Why? Because you were just trying to rebuild your gut while your nervous system was actively tearing it down. That's the missing piece. You cannot heal optimally while living in chronic fight or flight. Sometimes some things might work, but it's only going to be short term. And it's never going to be long-term. It's not a sustained approach. It gets you some short-term relief, but then everything comes back because you didn't actually fix the system. And this is exactly how it was for me once again. I was focusing on just the training and nutrition, not really putting any effort and emphasis towards all these things. And everything was so stressed in my life, and obviously that manifested in a bloated physique. You know, I'm looking a bit puffy, holding on to water retention, and then This is actually two years apart, so two years later on the French Riviera last last summer actually obviously looking completely different. And on paper here I'm better with inputs. I'm training harder. I'm eating you know better according to all these people. And and here I'm a lot more loose with the nutrition. I focus on quality. That's really the only thing that I focus on. I don't track. I probably eat. Like closer to 3,000 calories here roughly, and then here obviously I tried to—I wanted to get lean for the summer. Yeah, we can see how that goes. And it's just like I was trying to get lean operating or honest whilst being in a system that wasn't even functional. So nothing that I was gonna do that I was doing worked. And this is also the reframe and the how we have to view things. And this is one thing that I take with a lot of clients. A lot of clients come in and it's like I want to get shredded or something like this. Yes, but if your system is not optimized, like we're not going to get there efficiently. So the first priority is fix your shit, fix your health issues, fix your shit. Then when everything is working properly, okay, now we have all the, like, the room in the world to just like take this wherever we want, whether that be putting on muscle and getting leaner or whatever it might be. But you have to set the priorities straight. And once again, that's exactly what I did. I shifted my focus. Okay, I don't even care how I look. I just want to feel good. That's my priority. And then boom, everything came as a byproduct. Literally whilst I didn't even want and didn't even try. So how does the exact rebuild framework work and look then? Well, it's a 5-step process and it starts with this: stop eating in survival mode. As I said, this alone changes digestion massively. Most people eat rushing, working, scrolling, stressed and distracted, and that destroys digestion. So before meals, sit down properly, no phone, 5 deep breaths, slow down, ideally grounded, ideally outside, ideally in the sun. You need to signal safety to the body. This is arguably the most important thing. Step number two is to lower total stress load. This is also huge. You may not be able to remove all stress from your life, of course, but you can stop overstimulating yourself, stop overtraining, improve sleep, reduce caffeine dependence, and get sunlight. Take walks. Create recovery because right now your body likely has no recovery capacity left. I like to view of this as like. Stress hard, recover harder. So obviously we want to reduce the stress as well ideally, but if we think about the scale, kind of two-sided scale, I don't know what you say in English, but like if the stress weighs really, really heavy, we have to make sure that the recovery weighs even, even heavier, right? That's how you have to think about it. And step number 3, simplify digestion. No hyper-restriction. Don't go carnivore or some crazy thing like this. Just make it simple. For most people, just protein, easy carbs, and some cooked veg, maybe some fruit if you tolerate that, works much better than giant salads, hyperpalatable foods, random cheat meals, and huge fat loads, excessive food variety. So simple meals reduce digestive burden, and this is one of the things you want to do in the beginning before you start to reintroduce everything. You want to have it very clean, very simple. To get your gut firing again and to calm your whole system down because your system is not primed to be able to digest like hard things right now. You want easy, simple so you actually can process it. Then we want to progressive overload from there. Step number four is to fix your circadian rhythm. This is massively underrated. Your gut literally runs on circadian rhythm. Morning sunlight regulates cortisol, improves digestion, improves motility, and improves sleep. Later than at night, reduce blue light, reduce stimulation, calm the nervous system. And because better sleep equals better gut repair. Also, I'm always eating according to the sun. In the winter, I have a shorter eating window because I'm not going to eat whilst it's pitch black outside. That's also something that is massive. Ideally, I try to eat, you know, while the sun is setting. This is a fantastic habit stack right here. Like, imagine what this would do to your health— eating outside, grounded, when the sun is setting in nature. Like, this is as good as it gets. Last step, train and recovery has to live in symbiosis. So kind of the same thing here with stress hard, recover harder. Another huge mistake everyone makes. A lot of guys with gut issues train too hard and too often while already stressed. I see this time and time again with clients. They obviously, when they come, it's like they're training 5 to 6 days a week. Because they've been doing for so many years, and they don't realize that that is just putting more fuel to the fire, and they completely fry their nervous system by doing so because they have super high workload and stress load in general. And then they stand there wonder why recovery sucks, digestion sucks, and hormones crash. Well, you don't heal in survival mode. So one of the best things we can do is cut down all unnecessary like training strain and increase recovery. And make sure that those live in symbiosis with each other. That's the five steps. So the big reframe I want you to have here is that we have to stop asking what food do I remove next and start asking why is my body struggling to tolerate life in the first place? Because your gut symptoms are often the messenger, not the root problem. And if you only chase food, you'll stay stuck forever. The body heals when the nervous system feels safe, when recovery improves, and when stress lowers, and when digestion becomes efficient again. That is when bloating improves, energy improves, brain fog improves. Improves and food sensitivities improve. And this is time and time again what I what I see over and over with clients, guys who have tried every diet, every supplement, went carnivore, went low FODMAP, have been to the GI doctors, removed everything, and still feel terrible because they were they were all trying to fix the gut without fixing. The system controlling the gut. That's the missing layer. So if that resonates with you, take action on this, right? 5-step process, rebuild framework. I don't know, take a screenshot or something of this. Fixing your digestion and shifting your focus is literally going to change your life. It's not just about what we eat, it's about what we digest and what we absorb that matters. And this is exactly why I take the approach that I take with, with some of my clients, or with all my clients. And that's the approach that I take with my Superhuman protocol because it doesn't matter how good we train and how good we eat if we're not absorbing any of it, if the training isn't yielding any any results and dealing any rewards. It's the same thing here. We have a good example of John here that joined a couple weeks after watching one of these videos just exactly like you're doing right now, and he had been struggling for twenty years with his gut. Twenty years trying everything, trying gut gut GI doctors. And doing everything he could, and he was on the on the edge of just completely giving up. Now, a few weeks in, everything is starting to to to fall in place, right? You can read this yourself if you want. Same thing here with Luke. Two months in the program completely fixed fixed his acid reflux problems and energy levels, which is one of the things that he had been struggling with for years. And now, when doing so, you know the training and the good. Food he was already eating is actually starting to work for him, right? Same thing here with with Lucas. Years of chronic stress, anxiety, and rushing just completely destroyed his gut, and now he has a everything is is going perfectly. No, none of the issues that he was having, none of the random food sensitivities that he was having is is left. Everything is is fixed. And yeah, as Lucas says here, bloating is not normal. Get that in check. And I couldn't— that couldn't be further from the truth. So once again, this is why I take the approach that I take with all my clients, because you're not getting results like this by just dialing in training and nutrition. You're getting this from fixing the whole operating system. Take— we can look at— who can we take this time? Let's take Lucas. It's 40 days between these pictures. You're not getting this from just dialing in the training and nutrition part of this. It's from optimizing gut health, optimizing stress levels. You can see how he looks puffy here. Water retention, still solid foundation. But you know, just the perfect training and perfect nutrition isn't getting you here in 40 days. This is by dialing everything in, dialing in the whole system. Same thing here with Landon, business owner from the U.S. Have been training for 10 plus years here, running on stress hormones all day long, running his business, deprioritizing sleep, focusing on on optimizing his hormones when he when his sleep and his stress management wasn't even in check. He had went to all these people that Told him, "Oh, you have to be put on on testosterone replacing therapy." Whatever, all these things, all this nonsense and bullshit. And they hadn't even looked looked at his life, his nutrition, his sleep, his stress management. None of these things dialed everything in. Four months later, results finally started to show. Same thing with let's take Blake. Hundred and five days. Absolutely insane. This is simply not from training and nutrition. It's from dialing in your nervous system, dialing in your stress, dialing in your gut. Anton here as well, 90 days between here. You get the point. I've showed this so many times, but the point I'm trying to get across here is this isn't just happening from training and nutrition. This is happening from dialing in all the things around. That's why all my clients get so insane results because we fix the system so that the inputs that you most likely already are doing right now is actually gonna start working for you. So if that sounds like something you potentially are interested in, you can check out the first link in the description. It's gonna be to apply to have an assessment call with my right-hand man, Anton. We'll get a better understanding of your situation, understand your issues, and see if the Superhuman Protocol, which is my coaching program, is exactly or is something for you. That's my coaching program. That's where we do twice a month one-to-ones. We have a full built-out roadmap for everything, everything health-related, my whole philosophy behind health. And what we do is something we call a current situational audit. This is how we're able to fix our our clients' issues so quickly, right? John has been struggling for twenty years here. Now just a few weeks in, everything is is falling falling in place. It's because we look at all the inputs you're doing, connecting all the dots, and then it's super simple to see. Okay, this is this is this is the issues, right? All these people that John have been in previously have just looked at one thing, this thing, this thing. That's why for twenty years he hasn't been able to get to the bottom of of his issues and looked at the whole puzzle. They just give him a a PDF. The naturopath gives him a PDF and it's like, bye-bye, I see you in 2 months and let's see if this has fixed. We need speed, we need implementation, we need to fix things as they pop up, and we have to understand what exactly are the triggers and symptoms. So we do that by mapping everything out, and when we see the whole picture, that's exactly when we're able to pinpoint the exact problems and then just, okay, this is going to be the game plan based on all the things we see. This is exactly what I want you to do, and that's how we fix your shit. So this is not if you not for you if you just want a regular training and nutrition plan. Absolutely not. Please don't apply. This is for you if you're a high-level guy, you're running a business, you have a high stress environment, your your work is demanding, and you just want someone to take over the decision-making process when it comes to your health. You are sick and tired of not being dialed and feeling as good as you know as you can, and not getting the results that you want, and you finally want to achieve that and unlock that. If that's you, apply. We'll map everything out, fix your shit, and then we'll take it from there. So I hope you enjoy this rebuild framework. Stress is in most cases the issues behind your gut problem. So please go get to the bottom with it, fix it, and you'll see that the food that you're eating is finally going to right places. The training you're doing is actually Giving you results. The food that you're eating is also supporting your energy levels and everything around, and as a byproduct, everything in your life improves. Hope you enjoyed. Now she's passed out. Bye bye from me and Penny, and I'll see you in the next one. Peace.
