You've Tried Everything to Fix Your Gut. Here's Why Nothing Has Worked.

In this video, health coach Lucas Wilhelm Hedenbäck explains why most people who have tried numerous gut‑health interventions—elimination diets, probiotics, enzymes, medical consultations—still experience bloating, low energy, poor focus, and stalled training results. He argues that gut health is the foundational domino for hormones, performance, mental clarity, and overall well‑being, and that fixing it requires a holistic, systems‑based approach rather than isolated, surface‑level fixes. Lucas introduces a three‑step framework—Elimination, Restoration, Regulation—covering not only dietary triggers but also chronic stress, sleep deprivation, training load, mineral depletion, and circadian eating patterns. He details how to identify and remove damaging inputs (e.g., processed foods, excessive alcohol, chronic stress), how to rebuild the gut lining with nutrient‑dense whole foods, targeted minerals, digestive support, and proper meal timing, and finally how to sustain the gains through stress budgeting, adaptive re‑introduction, and lifestyle architecture that fits real‑world demands. Throughout, he shares client case studies that illustrate rapid transformations when the full system is addressed, and he promotes his “Superman Protocol” coaching program as a way to receive personalized, comprehensive guidance.

Actually fixing your gut health is one of the most important things you can ever do in your life because it literally affects everything. It affects your hormones, your well-being, your energy levels, your mental clarity, your performance, your physique, your everything, right? The gut is the first domino in every single equation of your health and performance and just well-being in general, right? In a positive way, but also in a negative way. If we do everything wrong, then that's going to set up— then that is going to set up a negative domino spiral or negative spiral, right? But if we do everything right, it's going to set off a positive spiral. And if you're pressed on this video, you probably tried all sorts of things to fix it already. You've done elimination diets, probably even more than once. You've tried cut out gluten, cut out dairy, cut out alcohol, coffee. You've taken probiotics. You've tried digestive enzymes, DAO enzymes. All the gut healing supplements. You maybe even been to a GP, naturopath, functional medicine doctors, but your gut is still a problem for you. Still, you're still dealing with some bloating, still unpredictable, still affecting everything in your life: energy, focus, training, skin, sleep, everything. It's still ruling your life in ways you cannot really explain to someone who hasn't even or hasn't experienced it. Themselves. And the question that keeps coming back, and the one that nobody has given you a straight answer to, is why. Why, after everything you've tried, all the effort that you've been putting in, does something still feel fundamentally wrong? This is exactly what I'm going to cover in this video, because one of the key insights that I discovered throughout my health journey is that in the beginning, I was just focusing on training and nutrition. Thought those were the only things that matter. As long as I train I listened to all these bodybuilders online, these roided-up fitness influencers just doing everything that they preached and they told me. And I was eating the protein powder, I was eating all the garbage in the world. And it worked in the beginning, right? I got some results, but then it came to a point where everything just collapsed. And I like to view this as a sink. Imagine if we have a sink and the drainage can't keep up with the liquids that are flowing in, right? We can put all the liquids in the world, no problem at all, right? Eventually the drainage can't keep up, liquids come up to the top, and then boom, everything collapses, it pours over. And that is most likely the situation for a lot of, a lot of you guys, or probably you if you've watched this. Some back in the days everything worked, you could be eating some specific food, but now when you eat it you have— you're just completely sensitive towards it and, and whatever. For me That one thing was dairy. One day when I had dairy, this was correlated to one of the most stressful times in my life. I just started my business, just quit my corporate job at one of the biggest banks here in Sweden called Swedbank, and everything was very, very hectic. And one day when I ate some dairy, the sink, or the, yeah, flow over, overflow, whatever, you get what I mean. And I had the biggest, like most intense cramps in my gut that I've ever felt. It felt like I was literally gonna die. I had to lay on the sofa. I couldn't do anything for a couple of days, and it was like the worst thing that I had ever experienced. And I didn't really correlate that to it. Like I correlated that to the food, right? Maybe I just got from one day to another super sensitive towards dairy. Long story short, obviously I had massive problems with my with my gut. Tried everything to fix it, nothing worked. And then came to the realization that if we stop focusing on the surface-level problem solving and actually focus on the root cause, we might actually fix it. And that is exactly what I'm going to cover with you today. A lot of people that you've been seeing and what you've been trying previously is focusing on surface-level problem solving. You have a gut problem, therefore we only look at the gut bacteria. You go to a to a naturopath or a functional medicine doctor that tells you to take this one pill. And then everything is going to work. This is not how it works. The gut is a domino. It's one piece in the domino spiral that has just been set loose. You're focusing on one piece of the puzzle. We have to look at your whole body as a full ecosystem. It's a full puzzle, and we have to take every single piece and put in the right place. That is how we fix it. So that's exactly what I'm going to break down in this video for you. And first of all, if you're new to the channel, welcome. My name is Lucas. Just a regular guy from Stockholm, Sweden. Over the last 5 to 6 years, I dedicated all my time and energy and effort towards solving this, this complex thing called health. And all I do on this channel is break all the lessons down that I've learned throughout the years so that you can walk away with clear, actionable implementations and fix your, your health problems and finally get some results from the work that you're putting in. Because that's what we want at the end of the day. I was working out, I was doing all these things because I wanted to, to get healthy and get a good body. And I kind of almost like everything was backfiring. Five to six workouts per week here at this point, doing everything right, having perfect nutrition on on paper, right? According to these bodybuilders. Now this is actually yesterday. I got a comment on the other video saying that I need to show how I look right now, blah blah blah, because I'm just re re using pictures. This is from yesterday, a bit bulked up. I'm training two to three times per week. Focusing on all the other variables around my health right now, rather than the actual workout part and the nutrition part, because those are not very scalable. Right? You can only train so much, or you can only train so good. You can only eat so good. It's the other variables around that actually matters, and that will lead you to getting results. But not just from a physical standpoint, because here the only thing that I wanted was just to feel good. I was feeling terrible. Right? My gut affected everything. I had no energy. I could not go through the day without having to rely on energy drinks and caffeine and just. It was a mess, a shit show. The only thing that I wanted was to feel good and have good energy throughout the day, and that was the commitment that I did as well. I just want to feel good. I don't even care about how I look. But then, funny enough, when I made that transition, you know, I started attracting the results that I wanted. Now I would say I'm pretty good-sized, uh, really, really strong at the moment. Uh, right now, if some of you are interested, I'm looking to shred off like 1 or 2 kgs, so I'm gonna be Really, really shredded here in a few weeks' time, and it's actually crazy. Two to three workouts per week, very loose with the with the training and nutrition inputs that I thought was the only thing that matters. And now we're looking like this. So that's that. Once again, if we dive into this, why does actually gut health matter still then? Well, when your gut lining is compromised, when you have inflammation, permeability, bacterial imbalance, or impaired digestive function, your body cannot absorb nutrients properly. The protein you are eating to build and recover muscle, your gut is not utilizing it the way it should. The vitamins and minerals you're getting from your food absorb at a fraction of what they should. The supplements you are taking passing through a system that cannot process them efficiently. You are putting high-quality fuel into an engine with a cracked cylinder. It does not matter how good the fuel is. And this is the belief that I want to challenge you on here. Imagine here training 5 to 6 days a week, doing everything right, but the, but the engine is not functioning. All of that work is going to be for nothing, right? And then here, training two to three times per week, focusing on everything else so that I'm maximizing the amount of nutrients that I'm absorbing, maximizing my recovery. Boom! Less effort, more results, which leads me to be able to focus on other things, focusing on growing my business, focusing on all these other things in my life that actually matters, right? I don't want training to take up my whole life. I don't want health to just. Eat up my whole life. I just want that to be a daily thing that I, that I do, and, and some small little things that I focus on on a daily basis to keep that, to keep everything healthy and flowing and up and rolling, right? So fix the gut and your training will actually start working in the way it always should. Um, food, your food starts fueling you properly, your recovery accelerates, and your energy stabilizes. Your body composition shifts without you changing a single thing about your program. The gut is not one piece of the puzzle, it's the foundation everything else sits on. So this is the thing you have to understand. Fixing the gut is so, so, so, so important. So how do I actually do this then? Well, I do this in a 3-step process. That's how I think of this: elimination, restoration, regulation. First we have to eliminate what's damaging it, then we have to restore and introduce what's beneficial, and then we have to regulate after. So first in this equation, in this elimination process, is to take away the things that are healing. Because before you can heal anything, you have to identify and remove what is actively working against you. And I'm not just talking food here. Most— the thing is, like, most gut protocols focus excessively on Dietary elimination as well. Remove this, remove dairy, remove FODMAPs. Yes, temporarily reducing the high inflammatory dietary inputs matters, but food is only one source of the gut damage. That's also what we have to understand here, and in many cases it is not even the primary one. So I have so many examples of clients coming to me where it's like they've done carnivore for a short amount of time and it worked perfectly fine. Yeah, for Fully makes sense, right? Because you take away the fermentation, you take away a bunch of processes that happens in your, in your gut. But then in a few weeks' time, energy completely trash, hormones completely trash, and everything else starts to break. So short term it can work, but long term that's not a healthy, healthy solution. So we always have to look at all the variables, not just food itself, but inflammatory dietary inputs. So processed food, refined seed oils, excess alcohol, or ultra-processed proteins. These are directly damaging the gut lining and feeding the wrong bacteria. Not forever, but during the healing phase, they need to come out. Of course, I think that the more we can stay away from this, the better. But what I mean with not forever means that like, if you— you shouldn't be wrecked from having a bit of processed food here and there, right? You shouldn't have to just be absolutely religious with your inputs and just like have super boring food forever. That is not a life we should be living, and that is not a like realistic way of living life in my opinion. You know, you should be able to handle a bit of damage if you know what I mean. That is what I mean with that. Don't get me wrong, I don't think you should be putting like bad stuff in your system regularly, but you shouldn't be wrecked from doing so. That is what I mean. The wrong probiotics. This is one of the things that surprises most people. Most many of the most Popular probiotics on the market contains bacterial strains that actually produces histamine, increases gut inflammation. If you haven't taken probiotic and feel worse, or feel fine short term but never fully better, this might be exactly the reason why. So even things as like the good food that some people that I preach, you know, sauerkraut, fermented stuff. If your gut is not optimized and can handle that right now. Those things can actually backfire. So sometimes cutting out sauerkraut probiotics can actually be very, very beneficial short term to calm everything down. So if you have— if you've been taking everything, try to cut everything out. Chronic stress is arguably the most important variable, non-negotiable and almost universally ignored. Chronic stress directly suppresses stomach acid production. It impairs digestive enzyme output. It reduces gut motility and breaks down the gut lining over time. You cannot out-supplement a nervous system that is permanently in fight or flight mode. So stress management is not a wellness luxury in this context. It's a clinical requirement for gut healing. Obviously, when it comes to stress management, we have targeted and direct protocols on exactly how to do this inside my coaching program and exactly how we should be approaching this throughout the day. But if you're working a high-stress job, you are a business owner, you're whatever, you have a hectic life managing your stress and it's, it's small, simple implementations throughout your day that doesn't take that much time. But that is one of the most important things you can ever do and that is going to affect everything. Else in your life. What we also have to understand with stress is that all, all the inputs that you're doing throughout the day is accumulating stress, right? Whether it's work, whether it's like just family, training, everything is stress. And you have a daily budget. This is how much stress you can accumulate throughout the whole day. When this is full, you start to enter into stress debt, which is no bueno. And that is when problems start to occur. So you have to manage and allocate And budget your stress in a very good and planned way is how I like to see it, in order to not get into stress debt and in order for stress to not fuck up your life. Sleep deprivation. I had to take this because I don't have a picture of me not sleeping good because I'm dialled with it now. But your gut lining repairs itself during sleep. If your sleep is consistently poor, whether from stress, late screens, alcohol, disrupted circadian rhythm. Your gut never gets into full repair window. This is why people who clean up their diet but not their sleep see partial results and then plateau, and then they fall back. And the last one: overtraining without recovery. High training volume under chronic stress and poor recovery is a direct gut stressor. It increases intestinal permeability and drives systemic inflammation, and creates a cycle where training is actively working against your healing. This is why I'm only training two to three times per week. It's because I have a lot of work. I'm busy. I don't have capacity to recover from more. And if I start to train more, I'm gonna— it's gonna set off a negative domino spiral where the food that I'm eating is not gonna be digested and not go to the recovery. I'm gonna accumulate more stress, so my stress budget will flow over and all these different, different things, right? So I do that actively because that is kind of how I feel the best. If I do more, I could— I wouldn't be able to recover from that because I'm budgeting my stress in a very specific way. So overtraining when you can't recover, when your gut is not optimized to absorb the nutrients and all these things, is very, very bad. Second pillar, restoration. Once the assault stops, now we start to building nutrient-dense whole foods that support gut lining repair. Zinc-rich foods— beef, oysters— critical for intestinal tissue repair. Vitamin A from liver and egg yolks supports the Mucosal lining, glycine from slow-cooked meats and collagen sources supports tight junction integrity. These are not supplements, they're food-first inputs that your gut lining is literally built on. Same thing here, you should only introduce like bone broth and these things obviously high in histamine. So you should only do this when your body is stable and when your gut is stable and when you actually can produce that. If you have problems digesting like bone broth and high histamine stuff, you have another problem that you have to look, look, look at first. But generally speaking, the general rule is that all these things are fantastic for you, right? Same thing here. Digestive support. If your stomach acid is low, which is commonly after prolonged stress or chronic gut inflammation, your body cannot properly break down protein, cannot absorb new minerals efficiently, effectively, and cannot defend against pathogenic bacteria. So supporting your stomach acid through bitter foods before meals, apple cider vinegar, or fermented foods that give your digestive system the tools it needs to actually process what you're eating is super, super important. Once again, if we can handle it, handle this, everything requires context. So make sure that your gut is, is starting to be better before doing these because these can also backfire. Arguably also one of the most important things here, mineral replenishment. So chronic stress, poor sleep, high training loads, and gut inflammation itself all accelerate mineral loss. Most people dealing with long-term gut issues are running on depleted mineral reserves. And have been for a super long time. The body is trying to repair a damaged gut lining with an empty toolbox, and most people are chronically under-mineralized even if they think enough or drink enough water. Because plain water without adequate electrolytes does not hydrate your cells effectively; it passes through. Your cells cannot absorb and utilize water without the mineral cofactors, primarily sodium, potassium, and magnesium, right? That allow it to actually enter the cell and do its job. This is why quality salt matters—not because salt is a superfood. I'd argue it is, but. Because unrefined salt provides the trace minerals your body needs to absorb water properly and maintaining cellular function and support every enzymatic process that gut healing depends on. If you're drinking 2 liters of plain water a day and still feeling dehydrated, foggy, and fatigued, this is likely why. You're hydrating without mineralizing. Everyone— there's a massive reason why we've been propaganda trolled into thinking that salt causes high blood pressure and is dangerous for you and sodium is not good. This is not true. If your body is well functioning, if you are consuming too much sodium, you're just going to pee that straight out. Your body can filter it and you'll take up all the other minerals. So literally mineralizing and having good quality salt is one of the core fundamental things, not just for your gut but for your health in general. Circadian eating patterns. Your gut has its own circadian rhythm as well. It's most active and most effective effective at processing food during daylight hours. Eating late at night, grazing constantly, and skipping structured meal times all disrupt gut function at a biological level. So structured meals with 3 to 5 hour gaps, no eating within 2 to 3 hours of sleep, and stopping the constant snacking that lets your digestive system rest— these are restoration inputs that cost nothing and matter enormously. In the winter, my eating windows become shorter because I eat according to the light. In the summer, it becomes longer and more. So I always align that with with the circadian rhythm. Ideally, I'm eating, you know, here as you see in, in the sunset, grounded outside. You know, this is as good as it can get. Always eating outside in the sun if I can and never eating when it's like pitch black outside. That's completely mismatched inputs for your, for your biology. And the thing here as well, we need to be on top of these things if we're sensitive, right? For someone else, it doesn't really matter maybe because they're not as that sensitive. But for you, if we have some problems, it's very important to be religious with all these inputs to make it as easy for your body to understand what's happening as, as possible. Last pillar is regulation, usually what everyone ignores. Elimination gets you out of the hole, restoration starts, and they rebuild. But regulation is what determines whether the results last or whether you heal, reintroduce everything, and end up back where you started 6 months Later. So this is not a phase that ends. It's the lifestyle architecture around everything that's that is maintaining a healthy gut environment permanently without some crazy therapeutic protocols and without the chaos of going back to whatever created the problem in the first place. This is where most people fail, not because they do want to they do not want to main result results, but because nobody has given them them a sustainable framework that works within a real life demanding job, travel, restaurants, social situations, high stress weeks. Because the advice they have been given is binary: either follow the strict protocol perfectly, or you have failed. This is usually how how everything looks, right? If you go to a naturopath, it's like oh you have to do this, you have to do that, and then when life happens, everything goes to shit, right? So we don't want to view this as or regulation is about understanding everything, understanding your system well enough that you can manage your total load intelligently. Intelligently, not perfectly. It means knowing and understanding our triggers without being ruled by them. Understanding that wine on a Tuesday when you're already stressed and sleep deprived is a different variable than wine on a relaxed Saturday when there is no stressors in your life, right? The food did not change; your system's capacity to handle it did. And that is the fundamental thing here. You have to like because a lot of this is the same with a lot of clients that come to me. It's like. Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't. I don't understand my gut. It's like, and it makes sense, right? Because usually when you, when you go to a doctor, and this is something that I see a bunch of times with clients, and you have some gut symptoms, they run some tests, they look at one or two markers, they find something or they find nothing, they prescribe something or they tell you it's stress or IBS, and then they send you home. Or you go to a naturopath, they look at your diet, they run some functional testing, they find some intolerance, then they tell you don't eat this, they give you these specific supplements. They have just looked at another piece of this puzzle. You go to a functional medicine practitioner, they look at your microbiome, take some tests, your hormones, maybe your gut lining is a bit damaged, maybe you have some overgrowth of this specific bacteria. Another piece. And then you end up just collecting pieces of your health, right, for years. But nobody has ever sat down with all of that and showed you how they all connect together, right? How all of these puzzle pieces connect. No, no one has ever, ever sat down and looked at the full picture simultaneously. And this is my core belief and what I do with my— all my clients, because I don't believe that you have 30 separate problems with your health. You have one overloaded system, and every practitioner you have ever seen, um, and, and that— yeah, they have just looked at one piece of the system in isolation and offered a surface-level solution for that one piece. And that is why, in my opinion, nothing has worked, most likely, for you. You've tried everything. And I don't think it's because you've not tried hard enough, not because you're super unique, but because the approach has been wrong from the beginning. And this is once again why I take the approach that I take with all my clients. We look at health as a full puzzle, not pieces in isolation. Every piece has to be in the right place, and when we do so, results become effortless. We start to— everything starts to work. The training actually starts to be beneficial. The food that we're eating is actually going to support the training and the recovery and the mental clarity and your overall well-being and all these things. And everything just becomes this positive flywheel that we were talking about. Let's take some examples here. Here we have you, well, as a business owner from Sweden running a startup, high stress load training but not seeing the results, cutting down on training, focusing on nutrition and stress management and gut health. And then 4 months later, we're looking like this, right? You're not just getting this from a perfect training and nutrition plan. You're getting this from looking at the whole puzzle, not not pieces in isolation. Same thing here with Adam. This is three months for for Adam here. High stress, a lot of work, not really taking care of his his his gut. Three months later, focusing on everything, dialing everything in. Boom, right? We can look at Landon as well. Same thing here. Business owner from the US, high stress load, working out 10+ years without really seeing any results, focusing or and just running on running on the like effort mindset. Oh, I just have to work. I just have to sleep less. I have to just do all these things. I have to have all these excuses to to not take care of my health. I've tried all the surface level things. I've tried the perfect diet. I've tried the perfect training, but nothing has worked. I've had a PT before. But I don't see any results, completely shifting the focus to all other variables. Okay, now let's just focus on dialing in the stress. Let's focus on dialing in the gut health. Let's focus on dialing in your hormones. And then this happens as a byproduct, right, from being stagnant for 10 years and then 4 months later this. So this is— these are just a few of the examples from some of my clients. You can look at Blake here as well. 105 days, a bit over 3 months between this Same thing here. You don't get this from just dialing in training nutrition once again. So if you feel like you have some gut problems, you've tried everything, and you actually want to look at or stop looking at everything in isolation and look at everything as a whole puzzle piece, then check the first link in the description. It's to have a free assessment call with my right-hand man Anton for my coaching program, where we just will get a better understanding of who who you are. Your problems and see if, if we can help you out. Once again, the Superman Protocol is my coaching program where we do twice a month one-to-ones. We do a full current situation audit when you come in, and this is how we're able to get so, so many results so quickly. We look at every single variable and connect all the dots when you come in to understand what your specific problem is. Because the thing here is everyone does not have the same problem. I can't just hand someone a, a, or just a pre-made plan. Here's how to fix your gut. No, we have to understand what's your triggers, what's What's your actual gut problem? Is it histamine sensitivity? Is it some bacterial overgrowth? Is it SIBO, SIFO? What is it? And based on that, we put a plan in place based on your stress, based on your work, based on all these other variables. So the coaching, the Superman Protocol, is for you if you want to finally fix your shit and you want to hand this off, this decision-making and the thought process, to someone else so that you can only focus on executing and then your shit will get fixed. That's what my coaching program is. Right? So if you're interested in that, check the first link in the description. If you've been dealing with gut issues, you've been to all these people, you've been trying to fix it, you're not getting the results in the gym that you wish from the work that you're putting in, this is for you. Thanks for watching, guys. Let me know if you have any questions about this. And once again, please put some effort towards fixing your gut. Super, super important. I'll see you in the next one.
