Band Origins: From Basement Shows to Selling Out Halls! #shorts

In this YouTube short, the narrator recounts the early days of his local rock band. It begins with a wild basement performance where a friend, Derek Powell, screamed Limp Bizkit’s “Counterfeit,” prompting the narrator to bring in Johnny and other friends. The group—Derek (guitar), Johnny (guitar), Edgar (bass), the narrator (drums), and Tom Madden (vocals)—first jammed in basements before solidifying as the band Panacea, essentially a re‑branded version of an earlier project called Prospect Tale with a new lead singer. While still in high school, they began playing local hall shows in Methuen, eventually selling them out. They recorded a rough demo that, despite its low production quality, was well‑received, and they have video footage of those early shows that they now view as “badass.” The short is a nostalgic, informal oral history of the band’s formation, evolution, and early local success.
