A guitarist struggled in group lessons until he discovered Guitar World magazine's numbered tablature in the back pages. The numeric tabs made learning notes click for him in a way traditional methods hadn't, turning his frustration into actual progress.
I was, uh, I was in like group lessons, um, like through the school. Like the guy, uh, there was a music teacher there that taught like guitar lessons, and I was in with two other kids that were just like week after week they'd like learn the stuff, and I sucked so bad. Like, like, how do these kids learn this shit? I suck. Until I, I, I had a Guitar World magazine and they would put the tab— the tabs in the back. That was the best. And I was like, I was like I was like, I'm learning all these notes. What the heck is this shit? This is numbers. How do I play this? I don't get it. It's for dumbs.
