Beth Sherman explains why specific details make comedy work. The more personal and particular your joke, the more people connect with it. She references James Joyce's idea that the universal lives inside the specific.
Specificity is simply, if truth is funny, then the details of that truth are hilarious. And there's a great quote from James Joyce, author of Ulysses, you know, noted funnyman, James Joyce. Um, but he talked about how, uh, in the particular lies the universal. So when you're looking for humor to make that connection, the more personal something is to you or specific something is to you, generally the more relatable it is to other people.
