And thank you so much, Marc. I'm so thrilled to be here. I'm very looking forward to have this conversation with you.
Yeah, it's great. So, as we kick off, why don't you tell us a little bit about what you do for your clients?
Absolutely. And with all of my clients, as a successful coach, the first thing we do is to determine what does success mean for my clients? Because this is the crucial part. Success, first and foremost, includes all areas of our lives, our health, our loving relationships, our career or business, and our time and money freedom. And every single person has a different understanding, has their own dreams. So, first step is to create that vision. And then, we identify the gap between their current life and their vision. And then, we make it happen.
Right, right. So, we talked to— you and I have talked about being business owners. You're a business owner as well. And one of the commonalities is that we are all striving to succeed. I mean, we put our time, our energy, our money into our business. In your experience, what does that mean for what we're seeing out in the marketplace? What are we seeing from owner operators?
Absolutely. Very often, we see entrepreneurs, business owners because we start a business for a passion that is coming from our heart. Yet, with this day-to-day grind of things, we forgot to look at from the bigger picture. We're just focusing on the day-to-day challenges and problems. And we feel like we have to do everything. Therefore, we sacrifice our time, our money, our everything, our house eventually, sometimes even relationships to build what we thought was our passion, but we forgot to really have fun and leaning into the true power that is coming from the higher power, what I call it. And really it can solve all the problems. It has all the solutions. And most importantly, You're going to really enjoy this process. And that takes a different way of thinking.
So, in your experience, the business owners that you get to work with, what are some of the stressors that you're seeing when they first come to you? How are they feeling?
I'll give you a perfect example. One of my really great clients, her name is Julia. And she, when her and I just met, She was so stressed out. She has started a business and she's saying, I'm putting in my own savings into my business. She owns a restaurant. And every single month just to make ends meet so I can pay everybody, so I can pay all the bills. And I'm working 60, 80 hours a week myself. I don't have time for myself. I'm so overworked. So that is very common. Even myself, I went, been there, done that as an entrepreneur myself and co-owner of Chinese wellness center with my husband. And we did that too. And we thought, this is coming from our mindset, we thought we have to, we had no other choice. And the truth is that's absolutely a myth. And it's definitely not, that's definitely not the case as we work together.
You know, I'd like to get into some steps that the audience could take. I have a sneaking suspicion that we have lots of people watching this right now who go, oh my goodness, you just described my reality. And so, I'd like to get into some steps that the audience can take to recognize and overcome some of their challenges. And I'd like to get to that right after this.

So, I am speaking with Certified Transformational and Success Coach Linh Yuan Su. Linh, there's got to be a way for somebody to be listening to this and saying, oh my goodness, you're just describing me. Somebody might say, I don't have enough time. I don't have— I'm spending so much time in my store or my business that I'm not spending enough time. Is there any kind of way that somebody could self-assess what their reality is in a way that is going to eliminate the bias and be more objective than just saying, hey, I just do everything I possibly can. And I'll do the best I can and that's all I can promise. Is there something that they could do like some sort of a checklist or something that they could go through to find out where they're at?
It's actually very, very simple. And as a success coach, when I work with my clients to do the life assessment, We just look at life in 4 key domains. The first one is your health, your physical health, your well-being, your mental health. And the second part is your love and relationship, whether it's a romantic relationship, your marriage, or any relationship that matters to you. The third domain is your career, your business. What do you do with your time and talent? And the fourth part is your time and money freedom. And as we're doing this assessment, it's simple, 1 to 5. 1 means this is the area that you really want to improve the most. 5 is this area is the area that you feel really confident, you feel really good about. And you just simply assign a number to each and every one of them. And just be truthful and just really just hone into— we're not judging. We're coming in with curiosity. We want to know really what is my current result. And notice all the longings and your discontent. Yes, you're working 80 hours a day. Some people are having fun working 80 hours a week. And maybe that's not for you. Just really realize all of those things.
Yeah.
It's interesting. So, this idea then is from what I'm gathering from what you just said is you You can list those 4 things. So that is again, just remind me. So the first one is health. Love and relationships.
Love and relationship. Your career and your business.
Career, business.
And your time and money freedom.
And your time and money freedom. And so, you put that on a scale and you rate yourself from 1 being really poor, which is just, I am just so horrible at this, to 5, which is I can move on. I don't even have to watch. the rest of this podcast. But I hope you do because it's great information. But absolutely, so you rate yourself and then whatever you say. So, is it— is this something that when you have these 4 areas, do people need to work on them together all as one whole? Or can they pick one and say, I really want to concentrate on love and relationship?
Oh my goodness! That is a great question, Marc. As a success coach, whenever we work with life, we create that success. It's always overall. And at the same time, we do identify one area that is your wildly important goal, what we call WIG, right? Wildly important goal. And while you're designing a vision, we don't leave other parts out. That's very often we see in the coaching industry. Sometimes people just focus on one thing. We're not talking about anything else, just focusing on this one thing. We forget while we're creating this result, whatever it is, whether your health, your relationship, Other parts of your life is also happening. Your health is happening while you're building your successful business. Your relationship is also happening. Your time and money freedom is all happening. We design all of it. We create a vision that's overall for your life with a mean laser-focused. So we make sure while we're creating that, everything else is also happening as the way we would love to have. Rather than just falling apart because we were not paying attention to it.
So, it's much more of a holistic and natural system.
Absolutely.
Yeah, it's as you were saying that, I was thinking, would a farmer ever put a seed in the ground and never water it or never weed, right? They wouldn't do just one thing. Oh, I want to grow, I don't know, broccoli and stick the seed in the ground and not not take care of that seed and not nurture that seed. And in order to do that, you have to look at its whole environment, not just the fact that a seed is in the ground.
And that's absolutely right. And also, even going back to what kind of seed you're planting, very often we don't even— our mindset, if we consider our mindset is a seed, what exactly are you planting into your reality? Whatever you plant, that seed is going to grow. So if you want broccoli, Really plant a broccoli seed instead of, you know, you grow up carrots. You're like, I wanted broccoli. Well, go back to what exactly what you planted and you will find the answer.
Yeah.
And that comes down to the planning phase, right?
Yes.
It's really interesting. I recently attended one of your sessions and you were talking about this thing about when you give people a whole bunch of good things. Like if I said, 1 1 2, 2 2 4, 5 5 11, and 6 6 12. Right away, we're going to fixate on what was wrong.
Yes.
Right? We're not going to celebrate the fact that 3 out of the 4 answers were right. But we're going to fixate on that one that was negative. And I find that when people are living their— they're going through their day, it seems to me that they are really focused on the negatives. Are there any strategies we should be doing instead of focusing on those negatives?
One very powerful practice that I invite all of my clients to do is every single day, preferably right at the beginning of the day. However, it can be any part of your day whenever you can find that literally 3 minutes of time is to focus on the first one is gratitude. Truly, what can you be grateful for for this incredible day? If anything, if you are still breathing, you are still living. So many people didn't get the chance to have this baby day. And the second part is to celebrate all of the wins in your life because that amplifies that energy. More energy attracts more energy, law of attraction. Everybody is very familiar with it. So how exactly does it work? If you're constantly focusing on, well, 5 plus 5 is not 10. 11, Marc. And you're focusing on the wrong, you're going to attract more wrong. Not that we don't acknowledge that. However, at the same time, we're focusing on building this energy with our mindset that's going to attract more good. More good attract more good.
Right.
Negative attract more negative. As simple as that.
Yes. And we've talked in past episodes. We've talked about the power of mindset. We've talked about reframing how we see things. A perfect example would be somebody coming into work first thing in the morning and going, oh, I sure hope Stacy isn't going to call sick again. Right?
And that's probably going to happen.
We tend to focus on this stuff as opposed to thinking, gosh, Stacy was sick yesterday. I hope she's going to be okay. I hope she's going to be well today. We're focused on Everything that might happen. And a perfect example of that was a young lady who I was coaching as a speaker. And she was saying that when she had to do a live presentation, she was on this big massive stage. She was representing a radio station. And she saw all these wires. And she kept saying to herself, oh God, I hope I don't trip on the wires. I hope I don't trip on the wires. I hope I don't. And then, they called her up and she walked up on stage. And what did she do?
Trip on the wires.
Right? So, this idea of seeding negativity. So, is there a way that we can reshift how we think when it comes down to this negativity?
The first very important step is to actually have the awareness because we all have thinking 24/7. We have on average 10% to 15% of our thinking is in our conscious mind.
That's it.
So, and any given minute, we have an average of about 95,000 thoughts happening in our mind. The majority is in our subconscious. So what does subconscious mean? Simply means we don't have the awareness. And here, the good news is that we can actually actively train our conscious mind so we are more and more aware of what is going on, all of the patterns, all of the collective beliefs that is in our subconscious. And what we think, we bring about. So if we let our brain just run on its own, by default, our life is going to happen by default instead of by design. So we can utilize our consciousness to really actively be aware of what we're thinking. And sometimes we don't even really notice what we're thinking, but we start to feel, oh, I feel not good. I feel really down. I feel blue. I feel anxious. I feel stressed out. And we know every single feeling is a reflection of our thoughts. So there it is. We notice what is going on in our mental faculties, and then we can do something to change it.
Yeah. And I think we'll get into a little bit more of the mindfulness aspect of it in a little bit. But we've talked about in past episodes, we've talked about the need for businesses to have strategic plans, to have business plans, to have marketing plans. Should we have a plan for this kind of success as well?
In my opinion, that is fundamental. That is step number one when you determine really what are you, where are you going, right? Like you and I, we had this Yeah. It's like a GPS. You have a GPS, you are in the car of your business, you're in the car of your life, and you can plunk in any address. It will take you anywhere. Yet for the majority of us, we don't take the time to say, exactly where would I go? Where would I love to go? And we'll just like put the GPS there, just start driving. So think about it. Answer this one simple question. What would you love to create in your business, in your life? Anything is possible. So, and that's really how we do it. And with my client Julia, within one year, very short time working together, she actually created incredible result that is, quote unquote, not normal in the restaurant business. Is she that special? Is she that extraordinary? Yes, absolutely. Everybody is extraordinary. But she tapped into the power of her thinking. Before she had a strategic plan and business plan, she thought about, what would I love to create? I would love to work less. I would love to generate more income, revenue in my business. And that's exactly what she created.
Yeah. And so, it's almost like it's creating a health plan essentially because it'll take Take those 4 elements and build them in. And as a business owner, you can look at it and say, so I'm going to create this business. Here's what I expect. Here's what I want to achieve with the business. Here's what I'm going to do with the marketing. But my personal life, here's what I want to see happen as well. And this is something that if my wife is watching this, she's going to be, you're one to talk. You were such a workaholic. Right? Because I was. My focus was I was being paid to do something, to deliver something. And I had to do it. And it unfortunately with me, it was at all costs. And it was, I was 2 feet in up to my head just making sure that I delivered on my promises. But then of course, it meant that I wasn't home. It meant that I wasn't participating in the life of my family and so on. And lucky for me, so lucky for me that I have a wife that is so patient. And so supportive because I couldn't have done it otherwise. I'd like to delve a little bit into what this kind of mindset plan would be. I'd like to delve a little bit into what this might look like. And so, we'll get to that right after this.
When you're delivering an important speech to a huge audience, it's easy to lose your place or go way over time. Give yourself an advantage with the So, Lynn, what's the big deal?
Well, Marc, I'm a I'd professional speaker.
like to talk a little bit about some of the daily strategies that people watching this can do each and every day. But before we get into that, why don't you let everybody know how they can get in touch with you?
Absolutely. So, I'm pretty sure Marc is going to share at some point my website and all of my information. The services I provide, all the different programs will be posted there. And also, I'm very, very thrilled to share I will be having a full 2-day training event on March 6th. Tickets are on sale right now. And before February 21st, the ticket is going to be $29, which is going to be a $10 discount. So definitely check it out. It's going to be a great event. And when we talk about those kind of mindset, designing your own success and understanding the bridge and also know the know-hows, To create that, make it happen. We will cover all of that with you on that day. So that is definitely a great way to kick it off if you are very, very serious about making some changes in your current result and you have something else you would love to create in your life, in your business.
Nice. You know, we have Anna on our— watching this.
Hi, Anna.
Good morning, Anna. It's so nice to have you. And Anna is one of those people who have firsthand experienced what happens when life is not balanced. She's experienced what happens when it is balanced. And so, she I'm sure is looking at this going, oh, I wish I had known what I had, what I now know at the time. So, it's really interesting what we're talking about today, especially for people in my industry, which is primarily in hospitality. Because hospitality and well, I mean most businesses now, there's very rare 9-to-5 businesses anymore. We're working evenings. We're working weekends. We're working holidays. And these are times when people are struggling. And so, this course that you have on March 6th, what's the focus of this seminar?
The title on its own, Create Your Success in Life. That is really the focus.
Okay. And so, you're going to be going through some of what we're talking about today. Some actually strategies.
Yes, absolutely.
Okay. So, when people start thinking about, yes, okay, I need to do this. I sat down. I poured my heart out onto a piece of paper and I ranked myself on those 4 capacities. When people start thinking about this and they decide now's the time, they start applying the practices that you're talking about, what kind of results can they expect?
Basically, working with this kind of principles is going to produce exactly what you would love to create. Of course, it's going to be over time and preferably with a support system, with a mentor or coach, whether it's myself. I would love to do that. And find yourself a coach. That is, and a mentor is very, very crucial. as a part of the whole transformation. And that's really when we understand the power of our mind, the power of our mindset. It is mind-blowing to really understand the power of it. Whatever you want, you create. And your current result is at some point what you're thinking. And you may wonder, but I didn't want my health issues or whatever. But if you really dig deeper, it was there. It was there. Maybe it's definitely in your subconscious. You just didn't know it was there. And the good news is once you realize it's there and you know you don't want it, we can replace it with the one you want. And then you will see your result to change.
Yeah. It sounds to me— so what we've been talking about today, it really seems like once you create the You need this ongoing mindfulness. You need to be constantly on guard. And to me, that sounds a little exhausting. Are there ways that we can get into this level of mindfulness that is not going to be so exhausting?
Actually, you know what, Marc? That's exactly why in my opinion, every single person needs a success coach. Need somebody that is really a great fit with you. So you— this process is fun. Just imagine you wake up to the day that you know what to do to create your dream, your vision, to work less, make more money, have more time with your family or people really you care, and you experience that vibrant health. You can get up, you can go for a mile run, whatever. And you feel so great about yourself. Imagine that day. You feel good. You feel happy. A true successful life is a happy life. So yeah, that is what we're creating.
And it's so funny that you said that because in past episodes, we spoke with Natalie Plamondon Thomas about defining how we feel. And I can imagine that we have some personal habits Well, that can cause us to kind of fight this uphill battle. What are some of the things that you think we should avoid doing in order to create more balance in our lives?
It really is avoid to let your mind just go on its own. Avoid something called reaction. So, reaction is when you're driving on the road, somebody cuts you off, you don't even think about it. You start to be become upset. That is a reaction. It's automatic. We are training that. So start to notice, oh, you know what? This happened and I don't feel good and I don't want that. So avoid all of the reaction that is so set in your brain and to replace it with respond. And another very powerful practice is to actually avoid to Breathe. Take a deeper breath, right? And inhale slowly through your nose. This is a very specific technique. And exhale slowly through your mouth. Do a few of those. You start to realize, hey, I feel so much lighter and better. Just small things like that will really make a huge change.
Yeah. And it's interesting that you say that because I think this idea of being mindful, we are in this digital age where we are constantly being surrounded by input. And the input that we're constantly being surrounded by is not necessarily so positive. How can we filter out some of this stuff that might influence how we think and how we behave in the context of our day-to-day?
I truly believe, and this is a very well-known concept, that if you want to know your income, just look at the 5 people you hang out most, and then their average income is going to determine your average income because mindset influences mindsets. So if you truly would love to make a positive change, then really be, again, be curious instead of being judgmental. Just look at the people you're hanging out with. What is their mindset? What kind of language they're using? And ask yourself again, with that curiosity, would I love to stay within that kind of vibration or energy. If it's not, then start feed your mind with the people, with a mindset, with knowledge that will really help you to create a different pattern of thinking, such as reading, reading great books. Check out the podcast that's really gonna give you a lot of strategy and make you so feel, feel so uplifted. And those are again simple tweaks, small steps Baby steps is what takes you to the top of Mount Everest. And all of that truly makes a huge impact.
Yeah, it's small steps and I think an oxygen tank. I think you need an oxygen tank to get up to Mount Everest as well.
So, it is about breathing.
Yeah, absolutely it is. You hit on something about this idea of surrounding ourselves with more positive influences. I know that sometimes the people closest to us, and I wrote this in my book, I talked about this, that we do have some people in our lives who are very close to us who can really suck our soul in some regards, especially when it's doing something that they're not comfortable with. We're told by many times, even growing up, told by people closest to us, oh, if you try this, you're going to If you do this, you're not going to succeed, and so on. So, when the people closest to us are that negative influence, how can people overcome that?
That is a great question, Marc. And again, this is truly a practice. I'm not saying, oh, it's easy peasy. Just do a different mindset. You're good to go. And when it comes times, it is really really just to be, again, be aware of your own feelings, your own thinking when people are being challenged or difficult in your life, and to truly take that pause. And here are the truths though. We have control over 2 things. One is our own thinking. The second one is our own action. And that's it. We cannot change others. We cannot make things happen for others. Yet we can always change what we're thinking. So notice what we're thinking is very, very crucial. So take those breaths and actually send them blessing. We don't have to say it aloud, just in your head. When we hear all those negativity or what have you that you feel like, oh, oh, just take a pause, take a couple of those deep breaths. And I bless them. I bless them. I wish them happiness, I wish them joy, I wish them peace. So there is a law, universal law, called the law of circulation. What basically means every single time you give, you will receive. So you give goodness, you will receive goodness. And it is a practice, so, but this is a very powerful practice in terms of really dealing with people who are very challenging in our lives. And I think we all have those people in our lives.
Yeah. And but like you said, we have the ability to change how we think and how we act towards that. And I think that's brilliant. We talked about what people can do during this podcast. And we've talked about what people need to be avoiding. What can people do right now to start moving in the right direction?
That is answer this one simple question. What would you love in your life? Just, I have my child, my son is almost going to be 5, and his mind, it just, there's no limitation. And as we grow up, we start pounding onto all of those limitations and, you know, we start to form a pattern. So think like a 5-year-old. Ask yourself this question. Use your imagination. Anything is possible. You all have a magic wand. within your own head. You are all the Harry Potter of your own life, so you can make whatever happen. Think about the question— the answer to the question, what would I love in my life in all areas? Your health, your love relationship, your business, or your career, and your time and money freedom. Put the how on hold. Very often we're like, but how am I going to do that? Put it on hold for now. We're imagining. Just imagine you're writing a book for yourself. You're writing a novel for yourself. Anything is possible. And once you have that, that is your blueprint. Put all the details of everything you would love. Instead of saying, I would love to have vibrant health, what does that look for you? Would you love to run a 3-mile run? Is that a representation of your vibrant health? Or whatever. Use all of those examples to put it in there and imagine yourself From three years from now, so February second, Groundhog Day, twenty twenty twenty twenty four. That day is going to happen. We are going to create results. So why don't you create something you would absolutely love in all aspects, and then just look at the piece of paper, read it every single day. Start with seven days in a row, twice a day in the morning and and in the evening. Right? Do it seven days. In a row and ask the question, following question, what can I do to serve that? What can I do to serve that? Just pondering on that question. Even at the beginning, you're like, I got nothing. That is okay because it is a process. As long as you're engaged with this process, you will see progress. And 3 years from now, what if you're living that life? You would absolutely It sounds simple. And yet, this is really the holy grail of everything.
Yeah. So, what would you say, Linh, to— there might be people watching this who goes, oh, that's great for her. She's very spiritual. She's very— but this is not concrete. This is not my life. What would you suggest a person like that does? They know they have a problem. They don't think that they They think they're in a bubble that they can't get themselves out of. What would you suggest to shake them out of their paradigm?
It truly is a decision, Marc. Again, as I mentioned, we cannot change for other people. But I truly believe for people to even just realize, you know what? She's spiritual, whatever. I cannot have whatever she has. There's a part of us that's saying, I do want to have whatever she has. I do want to have whatever energy Marc is having. So really leaning into that and start to ask, make that decision. And it doesn't have to be, okay, now let me invest into a coach. Start baby steps. And maybe it could be as simple as going onto YouTube, check out some positive motivational things.
Yeah.
And maybe it is to practice that simple exercise of asking yourself, what would I love? Let me just Dive into that and have fun with it. And baby steps, always baby steps.
It's funny that we learned to walk by taking baby steps, right? It didn't happen overnight.
