Marie Gervais talks with Marc Haine about naming emotions and building your vocabulary for feelings. She covers how to recognize what you're actually experiencing and simple ways your body can help you manage it.
Emotional regulation is the most important thing. I'm talking about that in the TED Talk, so I don't wanna give it all away, but it does involve simple body processes that we already do. We just have to be more conscious about them.
Okay, so could you define a little bit better what that might look like from a physiological perspective or from a case study perspective for somebody who says, well, I know I'm pissed off, I just don't know what to do about it?
Well, actually naming it is the most important thing first off, is being able to name it. And interestingly, so this comes into the emotional intelligence part, people who have a very limited emotions vocabulary are the most dysregulated the most frequently.
Wow, interesting.
Yeah, so actually using more range of emotions words in the way that you speak about things and asking people, how do you feel about this? How do we feel about this? Is this something we need to say, do anything about?
