A consultant describes being hired to help a fractured family reconnect by collecting member bios and facilitating conversations at a family assembly. The process let relatives like Sarah understand each other better and move past old divisions.
This one didn't know what this one was interested in, so they hired me to collate some of that, create some of the bios basically, and with their approval share them with each other so that when they convened at the next family assembly—I was going to say family hoo-ha, but that sounded too informal. It's a family assembly. Then they were able to finally have a conversation with cousin Sarah, who was ten years younger and just graduated from a great school and wants to do. This? Really? And now they're moving forward. So sometimes that's the value of having an external consultant come in and assess what's going on.
