High performers get promoted to manager without training, then copy the bad management they experienced as employees. Most managers overweight metrics or people culture, neglecting the other. New managers rarely get coaching or ongoing support to improve.
But the idea is, well, you're great as an employee, so I'm just going to make you manager. Now, be good at managing, without them getting the proper training. So, how are most people trained in management? They manage the way they were managed. Yeah. And so often, they pass on this tradition of poor management, right? Or maybe they focus on results, on metrics, but not on culture and not on people. Or maybe the opposite. They're all about people, wanting to make them happy, but they're not watching the bottom line. Most people don't get the coaching they need to be good managers.
