A short tutorial in the "Booked and Profitable" series by Marissa Brennan advising bridal makeup artists and hairstylists to define a clear signature style to attract the right brides and increase bookings. The speaker diagnoses the problem (mixed portfolio causes confusion and perceived lack of authority), shows examples of distinct artist styles (glam, textured/beachy, clean/royal), and promises four steps to audit an Instagram portfolio to clarify one's signature look.
If brides are getting cold feet in your inbox, I'm going to guess it's because of this bestie. Your signature style isn't clear, so that's exactly why she doesn't trust you. And she's getting cold feet. Welcome to the Booked and Profitable series where I take one piece of your business, breaking it down, showing you exactly how to make it booked and profitable. If your feed is a mix of boho, glam natural, soft glam makeup, dramatic glam makeup, client work, event makeup, color services, photo shoot work, your bride is confused and she doesn't know exactly what you offer. Lack of consistency equals lack of authority in your bride's eyes. And a confused bride doesn't book. Yet you're still telling yourself, I don't want to turn any brides away. I don't want to be mean if I don't. So you post everybody. Now, here's how you're going to audit your portfolio over on Instagram so you can nail your signature style. But first, here's some examples of bridal makeup artists who are so good at defining their signature makeup look. When you go over on Mary's page, you can tell exactly what kind of bride she wants to attract. Somebody who likes a little bit more glam, somebody who doesn't shy away from doing contour somebody. Somebody who definitely is a blushaholic. When you go over to Emily's page, you can tell she has a clear signature look, not only with her makeup, but also when it comes to her photography style. When you look at a photo, you know it's one of Emily's photos. Same thing when you look at Ashley's hair work, you know you're gonna get definitely a textured style. Something that's more of a bigger, more lived in kind of a bun. She's probably attracting more of a beachy kind of a bride. And you can tell based off of her work when you're looking at a hairstyle that's Ashley's. Same thing when you go over to Rachel's page is giving royal bride. It's giving clean. If she does a textured look, it's not going to look the same as Ashley's. This is setting her apart. She has her own signature photography style, her own signature poses. Here's four steps you're going to use to audit your profile yourself. Start getting booked and profitable.
