Are Image Captions Important On Airbnb? 🚀

Danny Rusteen explains that Airbnb hid captions behind enlarged photos, so they rarely matter. When you do use them, keep them short and highlight non-obvious features like a full-length mirror or expensive coffee machine that guests might miss.

Welcome back to Boostly. As you know, my name is Mark Simpson and I give hosts just like you the tools, the tactics and the training to get more direct bookings. Now, today's lesson video podcast, wherever you're tuning in from, is a little bit different from the norm because I went and interviewed one of the world's leading Airbnb experts, Mr. Danny Roustein of Optimize My B and B. He did a session for the team Boostly members and it was so good, I wanted to pull little extracts out and, and share it with you so you can look to implement the tactics and training into Airbnb. Now, even though this is obviously a direct booking podcast, this is not an advice that I give, is where I'm saying, listen, just go and leave them all, because you have to make them work for you, not the other way around. They spend so much money on advertising costs and marketing spend that you have to be visible on them. There's so many things that you can be doing afterwards to convert them into a direct booking. But for now, what I want for you to do is to utilize these tips we're going to share with you on Airbnb and how you can put them into practice. So this is one of the many episodes I'm going to be putting out over the course of the next few days and I just want you to sit back, relax and make note and put into practice. Before we get started, I want to say thank you to our hosts, which is uplisting. Uplisting is a fantastic PMS. With what we do with Boostly websites, we've got over 500 clients, so we pretty much have worked with every PMS solution that is out there at the moment. Uplisting is one of the best. You can go and find out more by going to boostly.co.uk uplisting there guarantee is that you will never get a double booking, which is great. It will link you to Airbnb, it will link you to VRBooking.com and the rest. It will do a lot of the work for you. It will make your life as a host so much easier. So thank you to Uplisting. Now, next, you're going to go zoom straight into our session that we did with Mr. Danny Roostein from Optimize My B and B. As always, I'd love to get your feedback. So let's jump straight in captions for the images. Now, how do you structure your, let's just say 10 images for a listing. How would you structure those 10 images and do captions really matter? And how are you personally using captions to help a potential guest?
I'm signing on to my Airbnb app right now because I want to see how the captions look on the mobile app. So maybe a year ago, Airbnb highlighted the captions, they reduced the size of the photo, and they brought the caption to the upper right corner. Recently, within the month, they've changed that. I don't think this. Yeah, they changed that. This is mobile. It's the same as on the website. All the pictures are showing up right away without captions, and you can just scroll down. So that means the guests could not even see any captions if they just look at the photos here. If they want a photo to enlarge, then the captions are shown at the bottom, about two lines worth. So captchas is a really popular subject, but they're not really gonna move the needle so much. Captions should be used as few words as possible, and they should really just be used to point out things that. For example, I said your bedroom. You shouldn't have four pictures of your bedroom. You should just have one. But if you have a full length mirror behind you with a closet that the guests can't see because you just have one photo, well, that they're not. They're not knocking a book because they don't see a full length mirror. But you can mention in the caption, hey, behind you. And I would say it like that, behind you, there's a full length mirror and a full size closet to try and put them in the listing. Yeah, it would be explaining items that aren't really super visual. It's a kitchen, but you also have this super cool coffee machine in the corner. Well, hey, there's this super cool, expensive coffee machine in the corner as well.
