Short transcript excerpt from a YouTube video by Mark Simpson advising short-term rental and boutique hotel operators on encouraging direct bookings. Key tactics: educate guests via physical touchpoints (fridge magnets, front door laminates) and advertise direct-booking perks (e.g., early check-in) by adjusting public OTAs’ displayed check-in times.

Number one, educate, educate, educate, educate, educate. The simplest thing that you can do is fridge magnets. Again we identified there are some really key touch points in our short term rental and in our boutique hotel. That was the front door and it was the fridge, right? So what we did is we got this nice little laminate and we stuck it on the front door and we stuck it on the fridge and we just said hey, next time you book here, book direct, you get X. So one of the cool little cheeky things that we did and again is that our check in time was always 2 o'. Clock. Always, always 2 o'. Clock. I went on all of our online travel agents and I put the check in time to 5 o', clock, right? So then I could go back to our direct booking website. I could go to our marketing and say book direct, you get early check in. Now think about it.
