A short excerpt from a YouTube video in which Dave (speaking in first person) describes feeling a sense of powerlessness during the early weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic as bookings were cancelled en masse. He recounts large non-refundable bookings being cancelled and refunded, clients reclaiming properties, and his decision to focus on what he could control.
The biggest thing that I felt during those early weeks of COVID is complete powerlessness. Bookings just being canceled at an alarming rate, hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of non refundable bookings being cancelled and needing to be refunded. It was horrible. I felt completely powerless. Everything was happening to me and to us as hosts and there was nothing we could do. Didn't know when it was going to be over. We couldn't hold on to any bookings. Clients were taking their properties back and it was, it was awful. One thing I decided to do was try and take back some control and focus on what I could control.
