A speaker (Mark Simpson) recounts quickly assembling a short-term rental (STR) business by asking experienced hosts, scouring Facebook groups, and listening to podcasts, assembling a makeshift set of tools to launch. After launching, they discovered many more companies and solutions they wished they'd known about earlier and reflect on the patchwork approach to getting started.
And so that journey of needing to pull together an entire business relatively rapidly was really part of the genesis of str. And that's basically I just started to talk to people that I already knew were hosts and ask them what they were using. I was scrounging Facebook groups, I was listening to podcasts, and it really did help. And so I kind of just pieced together a patchwork of things that I thought was going to get me going. And when I had them launched, and then kind of in the months that ensued, as the dust settled, I started to kind of look around and realize, my word, there's so many amazing companies out there that I wish I'd known about, because maybe I would have ended up using that other solution or that other platform if I'd really had two minutes to find them and do a little research about them.
