A brief spoken exchange from a YouTube video in which Speaker B asks for a key career lesson; Speaker A emphasizes that people commonly underestimate their own abilities and capacity to learn, arguing intentional effort and study can lead to unexpected competence. The clip focuses on self-belief and the importance of intentional practice.
What is one lesson that your career has taught you that you think that everybody should learn at some point in their life?
I have this large belief that people really underestimate themselves and underestimate what they're capable of, what they're capable of learning, what they're capable of getting good at. In myself, I've found things that I thought I could never be good at. That just with reading some books and really being intentional about my time, I started to get pretty good at. And I've seen a lot. I managed a lot of people at JET and Walmart who were earlier on in their careers, and I just saw it all the time. Like, yeah, people underestimate themselves. It's really a shame because we are capable of a lot of.
