Getting Back on the Same Page

Mark C. Winters explains how leadership teams stay aligned through two practices: regular one-on-one meetings between the visionary and integrator, plus weekly Level 10 meetings with the full team. The key is not letting the discipline slip, and if you drift, re-engaging immediately.

Everybody, it's Mark C. Winters, and I'm traveling today trying to go and get better, always learning. I had a recent question on keeping the team on the same page that I wanted to talk to you about. So in this question, the leadership team had not been together for a while, and the integrator says, you know, how am I going to get them back on the same page? And so my response was in part that it's not going to be easy. It's going to be hard, it's going to take time, and it's going to be a lot of work. And that's another reason for that discipline of having your weekly meeting with the leadership team, keeping them on the same page. And when you think about same page, I want you to think about it in two different directions. Number one, you're having your same page meetings with your visionary. That's how you two are staying on the same page. You integrators and visionaries and then integrators, you're having your weekly Level 10 meeting with the whole leadership team, visionary included. That's how everybody there is staying on the same page. If you let either one of those disciplines slip, you're going to get drift and you're going to start drifting further and further away from being on the same page. And it's going to take more and more work to get it back together. Okay, so three key points I want you to keep in mind on this for this week. Number one, don't drift. Don't stop doing it. Stick to the discipline, and that will help you prevent the drift in the first place. Number two, if you've let it happen, it's not going to get better. So don't wait. Go ahead and reengage your same page meetings, re engage your weekly level 10s. Get that going again. Because it's not going to get better by itself. It's going to get worse and it's going to become more work. All right? And number three is just remember how important that same page discipline is. Same page is the root of almost everything. All the problems that we see, not all the problems, but a vast majority of problems we see come back to that. So remember the two sides of the same page. Same page meetings between integrator and visionary. And then the weekly level 10 is how that whole leadership team gets on the same page. So thanks for watching.
