The Three Leaders in The Room

This short transcript (video) explains the three key leadership roles in companies using the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS): the Visionary, the Integrator, and the EOS Implementer. It describes each role’s core functions, how they interact (vision, traction, and health), and how EOS implementers facilitate discipline and open communication among leadership teams to drive execution toward business goals.
Chapters
When a company runs on EOs, it has three important leaders in the room working to gain traction toward their business goals. Each leader has their own roles that interact and engage with the leadership team, helping to move the business forward. First, we have the visionary. Visionaries are entrepreneurs who have the powerful ability to see specific patterns and trends. They'll see a specific problem in the world, have ideas on how to solve it, and then create a company to bring their solution to market. Next, we have the integrator. These individuals execute the company vision and are the glue that holds the organization together. Integrators are organized, love details and prioritize and drive tasks to completion. They have a gift for running the day to day activities of the business and harmoniously orchestrating human energy from the major business functions. And finally, we have the EOS implementer. These are the entrepreneurs behind the entrepreneurs. Their life's work is to help other entrepreneurs get everything they want from their business and live their best life. Let's take each one in turn. The visionary brings their big ideas and big energy. They're always forward thinking and paint a picture of the organization's future. They often share their insights on industry trends and potential dangers and opportunities that they can see coming up ahead. Finally, visionaries bring their creative juices to IDS sessions, helping develop the best solutions to issues. Their enthusiasm and optimism are infectious. Next, the integrator serves as the glue to keeping the team together, making sure everyone stays focused on the most important things that will move the business forward. They lead, manage and hold the leadership team accountable. Because integrators operate in the present, they're the perfect people to bring those futuristic visionary ideas down to the ground. They help the leadership team keep the bigger picture in mind as they break down the visionary's big ideas into actionable steps. Finally, EOS implementers work closely with the other leaders to help them unlock the full power of the tools and disciplines of EOs. They're successful entrepreneurs in their own right who now help other entrepreneurs through implementing eos. EOS implementers serve as the teacher, facilitator and coach for the organization's leadership team. EOS implementers are not employees in the organization, so they bring a fresh perspective to issues and call out unspoken problems, modeling how to have open and honest conversations. With respect, they teach the discipline of EOS and facilitate discussions among the leadership team, enabling each leader to be fully present in the room and play full out. As you can see, the visionary integrator and EOS implementer have very distinct roles. Each role capitalizes on the personal core focus the leader brings. They each serve as an essential ingredient in the secret sauce that brings vision, traction and healthy to the organization.
