Integrator Hiring Mistake

Mark C. Winters walks through how to know if you hired the wrong integrator. Look for missed deadlines, unfinished rocks, weak accountability, and skipped meetings. If you see these signs, lay out each concern with three specific examples in a same-page meeting, then give them time to improve. If they don't, invoke a three-strike rule and move to resolution or end it.

Hi everybody, it's Mark C. Winters and today I'm talking to you visionaries and I also want to introduce a new visual aid. So I know that some of you, you know, you're looking at my face all the time and that may get a little old. So I have a visual aid for you today. This is an unhappy visionary. Now why is the visionary unhappy? This visionary is unhappy because they're concerned they might have made a mistake in the integrator that they hired. So what does that look like? What would make you feel something like that? If deadlines are being missed, if rocks aren't getting done, if they're not holding the team accountable, if you're not doing same page meetings with the regularity that you should have at least once a month, or if you're just feeling kind of like there's something funky and your spidey senses are tingling and telling you that, that there's just something not quite right. Those are all things that you might be feeling that would make you question, gee, did I hire the right integrator? Is this the right person to serve that role for me? So if that's the case, how do you handle it? What do you do? First thing that we need to do is the visionary needs to clearly articulate their concerns. So what are the concerns that you have relative to these specific expectations? You're going to lay them out with the integrator in a same page meeting bullet point form. You're just going to go through those concerns one by one. Okay. Really important, for each concern that you have, I want you to have three specific data points to offer them as examples of why you're feeling that way. If you have only one data point, what we find is people will just explain that one away. If you have two data points, they may say, well that's just a coincidence. If you have three data points, it's obviously an epidemic situation. They that's something that you can engage the conversation and dig into and try to resolve. Alright, if you're still not feeling good after these conversations, we want to see nice steady progress. So you see them getting closer to your expectations on all the bullet points. But if you're still not feeling progress, then here's what I need you to do. You need to call that first strike. You need to invoke the three strike rule and you need to move the situation quickly to either full resolution of all the concerns or you need to end the relationship with this particular integrator. Alright, so three key points to wrap this one up. First One, you've got to identify your issues. You've got to understand what's making you feel that way. This, this, this. And what are the specific examples? Number two, you've got to communicate those issues to the integrator in the same page, meeting point by point with three examples for each third either resolve them all fully in the relationship.
