Removing Obstacles

Short video (hosted by Mark C. Winters) explaining how integrators help organizations remove obstacles: recognize being stuck, identify the obstacle, create a plan to remove it, and execute the plan. Emphasizes integrators’ role in keeping teams "unstuck," the value of their objective perspective, and resources (RocketFuelNow.com, assessments, groups, book) for further development.

Hi everybody, it's Mark C. Winners and today I want to talk to you about obstacles. So one of the main functions of the integrator is to help us remove obstacles. So we got a question the community about what does that mean? What does that really mean to remove obstacles? If you really think about it, once we're clear on direction and vision, the whole point is helping us get unstuck and stay unstuck. So when stuck happens, sometimes the leadership team member that's stuck recognizes it and sometimes they don't. Sometimes they raise their hand and say, can you help me? And other times they need a gentle tap on the shoulder to help them help them realize that they need help. So the way I want you to think about it, the first step is to recognize that there is an obstacle, we are stuck. So whether that's the leadership team member raising their hand or the integrator tapping them on the shoulder, we got to recognize that we're stuck. Second thing we've got to do is recognize what is the obstacle, why are we stuck? And sometimes all that needs to happen is a little bit of creative interchange between the integrator and the leadership team member to help them recognize, oh yeah, this is what's going on there, this is what's getting in the way, this is what's holding us back. Once we know what that is, we've got to come up with a plan. So we've got a plan for how to remove that obstacle. And, and again, that creative dialogue between the leadership team member and the integrator is really powerful to get the juices flowing and see the different possibilities and come together with a plan that we think will be effective to get that obstacle out of our way. Once we have that in place and we have clarity on that, the fourth thing is just to go execute the plan. Just go do it. And sometimes that's the leadership team member and they have some just clear action steps they need to take. Other times the integrators bring in some more energy, bringing something special into that plan to make it effective, to make it work. Maybe there's something they need to offload from the leadership team member because there's a constrained capacity there. Other times there's something that cuts across the functions or something more external that the integrator can just help make it happen and make the wheels turn and make it go so that we can get that obstacle finally out of the way. Alright, so three things today to wrap this one up. Number one, I want you to recognize that the integrator is really a powerful, powerful force to help the organization get unstuck and stay unstuck. Alright. Number two, the integrators, the great integrators, really have a gift for recognizing and removing those obstacles. And number three, the power of an objective perspective. Sometimes we're just too much in it, we're too close to it. So having that objective perspective that's just a little bit outside our own. So the integrators, just outside the perspective of the leadership team member can really help make it happen. Thanks for watching. Today at Rocket Fuel we're all about helping create the most powerful visionary integrator duos on the planet.
