What Do You Do?

Mark C. Winters explains how integrators can clarify their role to others. One integrator shared a job description with his spouse and finally got on the same page about what he actually does. Winters offers three ways to communicate your role: know it, teach it, and use third-person examples.

Hi everybody, it's Mark C. Winners. And have you ever tried to explain to somebody what it is that you do and you tell them all about it and then they're just looking back at you like they have absolutely no idea what in the world you're talking about? So for you integrators out there, I actually have a new idea for you. And I'd like to thank Mike Coates, who's one of our excellent EOS implementers, for sharing this story with me and one of his clients. Their integrator went to a recent Integrator Mastery Forum that we held. And in the IMF we'll teach. One of the things that we'll teach is the integrator job description. So after the imf, that integrator took that job description home and he shared it with his wife. And he explained to her, this is what I do after having one of those other conversations in the past. And after they went through the whole thing, she looked back at him and says, wow, so this is what you do. So this really makes sense. And his feedback to Mike was, you know, it just really helped us get more on the same page. There's that same page idea. Absolutely critical in relationships that are really important to you. Okay, so three key points I want you to take away from this message today. Number one, it starts with you. You have to understand what it is that you do. That integrator job description is a good tool to help you get clear. And point number two is share that with somebody else. Teach your friends, teach your family what it is that you do for a living. Point number three, there's power in third person teaching. If I just explain it to you, you'll have some level of understanding. If you go and explain it to somebody else, it's going to force you to think about things that you're not clear on. You're going to understand it better. And who knows, one of these days down the road that might help you explain it more clearly. Teach a visionary to understand what an integrator like you can really do for them. Thanks for watching Today at Rocket Fuel, we're all about helping create the most powerful visionary integrator duos on the planet.
