149: Be the change you want to see

In this episode of the Cani Crystals podcast, host Mart Tweedy shares a personal narrative that weaves together recent crystal work during a super‑moon, a powerful manifestation experience with Moldavite, and reflections on the mantra “be the change you want to see.” He connects this philosophy to his journey as a parent‑to‑be, discussing adoption challenges and the qualities he wishes to model for his son. Drawing on Lao Tzu, the Law of Attraction, and concepts of frequency and vibration, Mart outlines a mindset framework that includes visualization, affirmations, raising one’s vibration, and aligning thoughts, emotions, and actions. He then presents three concrete steps for listeners: (1) set clear, lived‑out intentions; (2) take inspired action; and (3) embrace the journey, acknowledging setbacks as part of growth. Throughout, he emphasizes the ripple effect of embodying kindness, compassion, gratitude, and other values, noting how personal example influences friends, family, and broader communities. The episode also includes sponsor spots for Wayfair and a promotion for the upcoming Manifest festival, as well as a teaser for an upcoming interview with Mary Morrissey.

Wayfair. Every style, every home. Hello everyone, welcome back to another episode of Cani Crystals, the podcast. I hope that everyone is well. My name is Mart Tweedy, I'm your host. Not Matt Tweedy, not Mark Tweedy, not Mary, as my mom seems to put in messages all the time. And this week we have had an incredible supermoon on Monday. Did you manage to see it? It was absolutely gorgeous. I was on a call with my members on Monday evening, we were doing a bit of release work together, and I mentioned that most people say not to charge your crystals on a supermoon because the energy can be quite chaotic, to say the very least. But you know what, I'm not most people, so I whacked all me crystals that I'm working with out at the moment out to charge in me garden, including me Moldavite, and I felt such a powerful energy getting them back in on Tuesday morning. When I meditated with me Moldavite on the Tuesday morning before I went to work, I actually got quite emotional because I was picturing where I want to be this time next year, and I fully felt like I was living that life right now. Honestly, it was such a game changer. It got me thinking about what needs to change in my life right now for me to get to that point in my life that I want to be at. And then just as I opened Instagram, guess what I saw? It was one of those motivational quote pages that I follow, you know, that always post like loads of spam. And it— they'd posted a picture basically, and it was just words, and it just said 'Be the change you want to see.' Honestly, I live for moments like this. It's like the universe is speaking directly to you. Do you know what I mean? Now, I know when I mentioned in a podcast episode back in January that, you know, we've gone through the adoption process in the last almost 2 years now, I think it is, and we were placed with our beautiful baby boy back in January, and he's still not legally ours, which is why, you know, I can't really share anything about him yet. It's such a grueling process to go through, honestly, but Thinking about being the change that I want to see made me think about where I want to be this time next year, not just for me but for him as well. So like, what examples do I want to be setting him? You know, that the world is a scary place and that he can't do this or that? Or do I want him to know that, you know, he's loved and that anything in this world is possible and that if he puts his mind to it, he can become whatever and whoever he chooses to be? So I thought, let's discuss this further in the pod this week. So there is a famous famous Chinese philosopher called Lao Tzu that you might have heard of before, and he once said, "The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step." The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. And it's so true because, you know, change is such a powerful force. It's that invisible energy that shapes our lives. It's the silent driver behind our evolution. Often we would wait for change to come to us from the outside. So whether that be a new job, a better relationship, a stroke of luck, you know, but the truth is the biggest and the best changes in our lives, they all start from within. So it's all about becoming the architect of your life, you know, transforming your inner world to reflect that reality that you want to create on the outside. It's about manifesting your desires through a shift in mindset, energy, and action. So often, you know, we look outward, we expect the world and those around us to change yet we remain the same. It's like, what is that saying? I can't remember it off the top of my head. It's something like, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again. Have I got that right? It's something like that. And that's basically what most of us do. We go on doing the same thing day in, day out, expecting something to change when it's not going to, because we're doing the same thing, so we're going to get the same results every single time. So we wish for other people to be kinder. More compassionate, more understanding, but we forget that true change starts from within. So if you want to see change in other people, you must first become that change yourself. So if I desire other people to be better, then I must first become better myself. And this applies in all areas of life. So whether it's with our loved ones, our children, or even our communities, you know, change is contagious, but it has to begin with us. So when it comes to our children, for example, we often hope, you know, that they will grow into the best versions of themselves. I mean, who wouldn't want that for their kid? But they learn more from what we do than what we say. So if I want my children to be kind, then I've got to be kind as well. Not just in their presence, but consistently in all my interactions in life. If I wish for them to be confident and true to themselves, you know, not bending under the pressure to fit in, then I've got to embody that freedom. I've got to live authentically, you know, free from judgment and embrace my true self as who I am as a person. And the same principle applies if I want them to be giving, you know. I've got to show them what it means to give selflessly, not just with material things, but with my time, my love, my spirit, my presence, whatever it is in life, okay. It's not enough to tell them to be generous. I've got to live that generosity every single day in the small acts of kindness and the big sacrifices alike as well. So another example is, you know, if I want my loved ones to live healthily, to cherish their bodies and their minds, then I've got to lead by example because it's not enough to preach the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. I must embody it. And that's part of the reason that, you know, I'm absolutely crushing it at the gym again at the minute, not just for myself, but so that others around me can see, you know, it is possible to lose all this weight and it is possible to, you know, get your body back to a place where you feel comfortable and confident with it again. So it's all about making choices that reflect a commitment to my well-being in every single area of life. So whether it's through nourishing me body with good food or keeping active or nurturing me mind with positive thoughts or even just taking care of me emotional and spiritual health, I've got to be that living proof of what I wish to see in them. Now the truth is the change that we want to see in the world starts with us. We have to be the living examples of the values that we hold dear. We've got to embody them so fully that those around us can't help but be inspired. By being that change, we create that ripple effect. We influence our loved ones, our communities, and eventually the world. So if I expect other people to be grateful, then I've got to, like, embody that gratitude, because it's not enough to wish for others to express thanks or appreciate the good in their lives. I've got to show my gratitude daily as well, in both my words and me actions. And by openly acknowledging the blessings in me life, I then set the tone for those around me to do exactly the same. So if I want others to live the life that they truly desire, you know, free from the constraints of societal expectations or fear of judgment, I've got to lead by example. I must love the life that I live. And I must live it fully, unapologetically pursuing my passions, my dreams, and in doing so, I then become a living testament to the freedom and fulfillment that comes from following your heart. Does that kind of make sense? I hope it does. I feel like I'm rambling here, but if I want other people to make happiness and love priorities in their life, I must make them priorities in mine. It's not just about talking about the importance of joy and love. But it's actively seeking them out, you know, nurturing them, allowing them to guide my choices. So when I choose happiness and love every day, I then create an environment where these qualities can flourish in the lives of all the people that are around us as well. So if I expect other people to be kind, I've got to be kind first, because kindness isn't just an ideal to aspire to, you know, it's a practice to be lived. It's in the smallest gestures, you know, all those thoughtful words, the willingness to help other people without expecting anything in return. By being kind, I inspire kindness in other people as well. Now, something that I noticed the other day is that, you know, I drive to work most mornings, or I'll be driving to a meeting or something like that, and in the split second that it would take me to, you know, let somebody out into the traffic ahead of me, or, you know, at the supermarket, let somebody else with fewer items go in front of me in the queue, That's just an act of kindness, but it costs absolutely nothing. And I've done it a lot this week because I've noticed myself that, you know, I'll start to speed up if I see another car coming out of a junction, when in actual fact I could just let them go. It's not going to make me any later for work, it's not going to make me late for my appointment, it's going to be like an extra second or something if that. Or, you know, letting somebody in the queue in front of you when they've got one or two items and you've got a whole shopping trolley full, that's going to knock maybe what, 15, 20 seconds off your day? It's not much, and that is just being kind. And like I say, little things like that inspire that outward ripple effect because then somebody else might pay it forward and think, well, you know, he's just let me out, so I'm gonna let them out. Or he's just let me in front of the queue the other day, so I'm gonna let somebody else in front of the queue. Do you know what I mean? And if I expect other people to be compassionate, I've got to embody that compassion. So it means being empathetic, understanding, you know, gentle with those people that are around us. Especially in times of difficulties as well. It's about putting meself in other people's shoes, responding with warmth and care, because compassion breeds compassion. And when we show compassion, we encourage others to do the same. So if I expect others to listen and truly understand, I've got to first be willing to listen deeply. It's not just about hearing the words, but it's about being fully present, you know, seeking to understand the feelings and the perspectives behind those words. And when I offer my full attention and understanding, I then create a space where other people feel heard, they feel valued, and that inspires them to extend the same courtesy onwards to other people. Now, everything that I've spoke about there, every emotion, every feeling, I do expect all those things from different people. I did a little journaling exercise the other night and I wrote everything down. So it was like what I want from other people, and it was all, you know, I expect that other people will listen to me, that they'll understand me, that they're compassionate, that they're kind. That's all it's about. Gratitude, love, kindness, compassion, understanding. And because I expect them from other people, I've got to choose to live them, to see them. Does that make sense? I will live as the person that I want others to become. So I will be the change that I wish to see in the world. Now, in doing so, I transform not only my life, but also the lives of those around us. 'Cause like I was saying, it does ripple outwards. And by living as that example, I'm going to become the catalyst for the change that I desire. So it all begins with me. Those ripple effects of my actions can inspire a wave of positive transformation in other people as well. Our mindset is the foundation of our lives. So the thoughts that we think, the beliefs that we hold, you know, the stories we tell ourselves, they all shape our reality. So a positive, growth-oriented mindset can turn challenges into opportunities and obstacles into stepping stones. Yeah, the first step in being the change that you want to see is cultivating a mindset that supports your goals and dreams. Now, we do all of this every day, and we do all of this through manifestation. We all carry limiting beliefs, often unconsciously, you know, that hold us back from realizing our full potential. Now, these beliefs are rooted in past experiences experiences, societal conditioning, or self-doubt, and they can all shape our reality in ways that we might not even recognize. Okay, so if we desire to see change in the world or in other people, we've got to first confront these internal barriers. To manifest the life we desire, it's essential to identify and reframe these beliefs. For instance, instead of thinking, "I'm not good enough," we have to shift our perspective to, "I am capable," you know, I am deserving of success, whatever it is. But that shift isn't just about changing the words. It's about embodying that new mindset that opens up possibilities and will eventually empower you to take those bold steps forwards. Because when we become the person who believes in their own worth, we then inspire other people to do the same as well. Now, visualization— I bang on about it all the time, but it's such a powerful tool for manifestation. But To truly see the change, you must first embody the change within yourself, because it's no good visualizing something if you don't believe it inside. So when you visualize your goals, you create a mental image that your subconscious mind begins to work towards. Now, when we couple that with affirmations, you know, positive statements that reinforce that reality, that visualization will help to align your thoughts and emotions with your goals. For example, if you want to manifest a new job, Yeah, visualize yourself thriving in that role. Affirm to yourself, I am confident, I am successful in my career. But just remember that it's not just about imagining that success, it's about living as that confident, successful person that you wish to become. So it's about embodying these qualities into your daily life, because then you're able to set an example for others. You're, you're able to demonstrate the power of a positive mindset and self-belief. At the core of manifestation is that understanding that everything is energy, including our thoughts, our emotions, our beliefs. And if you listened to last week's episode about frequency, you'll know that that frequency at which we vibrate, that attracts experiences that match that frequency. To create that positive change in your life and in the lives of others, you must first raise your own vibration. It's really that simple. So cultivate positive thoughts. Cultivate positive emotions and actions that align with the life that you want to manifest. When you embody high vibration qualities like love, joy, gratitude, you naturally attract more of those experiences into your life and you inspire other people to do the same as well. So by being the person who consistently radiates positivity, you set a powerful example that other people can follow. Now let's think about this. Like, if you went into a room and there was, say, 20 people there and every single one of them had a face on them like a smacked arse, but one of them was smiling at you. Which one would you naturally gravitate towards to say hello? It would be the one that would be smiling, obviously. But that's what I mean. That's what it's like to inspire other people. You are gonna be that person who consistently radiates that positivity. So all these opportunities of people like coming over and talking to you— I know that's a bit of a shitty example, but it's almost the same kind of instance there. That if you walked into a room, loads of people had miserable faces, one of them was smiling, you would naturally gravitate to that person who was smiling because positivity breeds positivity. You want positivity in your life, so you are naturally attracted to positive people. Now, going back to the Law of Attraction here, you know, we all know about the Law of Attraction. Like attracts like. What you focus on expands. So if you focus on embodying those qualities that you want to see in other people and in the world itself, you will draw those experiences closer to you. This doesn't mean ignoring challenges, obviously, but rather shifting your focus to the solutions and the opportunities that align with your goals instead. So for example, if you want more kindness in the world, start by being kind in every single interaction. If you wish for more understanding and compassion, make it your priority to listen deeply and respond with empathy when people are talking to you. By living these principles, you not only attract them into your life, but you also inspire other people to do the same. So manifestation is most powerful when there's harmony between the mind, the body, and spirit. So practices like meditation, mindfulness, yoga, they will all align these aspects of your being. They create a holistic state of balance. So when your mind is clear, your body is healthy, your spirit is at peace, you're going to be in an optimal state to manifest your desires and inspire all those people around you. So think about maybe, you know, prioritising your own well-being. You'll then set an example for other people because you'll demonstrate the importance of self-care and balance and alignment, encouraging other people to take similar steps in their own lives. So there are some practical steps to, you know, be that change that you want to see in your life, and I've wrote down 3 of the main things that I could think of on my notepad here. So number 1 is setting clear intentions, because clarity is key when it comes to manifestation, both for yourself and for those that you influence. So setting clear, specific intentions, that sends a powerful message to the universe and to all those people around you about what you want. You know, write down your goals in detail, envision the outcomes that you desire, create that plan for how you're going to achieve them. But more than that, live those intentions every single day. It's not going to be enough just writing everything down. We need to put those intentions to work and live them every single day. If you want other people to be focused and goal-oriented like you are, you need to be that person first. You need to show them what it looks like to live with purpose and determination. Now the second thing on my list is taking that inspired action because manifestation isn't just about thinking and feeling, it's also about doing as well. So taking inspired action just means acting on the opportunities that arise as you work towards your goal. Goals. So whether it's starting a new project, you know, making healthier choices in your life, or maybe even just taking the first step towards a new adventure, a new job, whatever it is, your actions set a powerful example for other people. So when you live as someone who takes actions on their dreams, you inspire those around you to do the same. So your courage, your determination, your follow-through, they all become a model for others to emulate and to get that success as well. And you know what happens when we're around successful people? We become successful ourselves. I'm sure I've spoke about this on the pod previously, but you are a byproduct of the 5 people that you are closest to right now. You will take a bit of each of their personality and you will incorporate that into your personality. And, you know, if you have 5 friends that are all on the dole and all on Jobseeker's Allowance or something, it's probably likely that you're not going to be really interested in working either. Or on the flip side, if you're hanging around with happy, successful, joyous people, it's no doubt that your life is going to be filled with joy, happiness, and success. It's just how it works. You are a byproduct of the 5 people that you hang around with the most. That's why I always say, you know, find your tribe, find the people that are going to support you and push you through life, okay? And the third thing on my list is to embrace the journey, because manifestation is a journey, it's not a destination. And along the way, you might encounter setbacks or challenges, but this is all part of the process. And every single step that you take, every single action that you go after, it's all going to bring you closer to becoming that change that you want to see in your life. And when we embrace the journey with an open heart, and, you know, we trust the universe is conspiring in our favor, We then show others that path to their dreams is not always straight, but it is always worth pursuing. Yeah, becoming the change that you want to see in your life, it requires a shift in mindset. It requires a commitment to raising your vibration. It requires the courage for you to take that inspired action. And as you align your inner world with your reality that you want to create, you'll then find that the changes that you seek begin to manifest naturally. It will become second nature to you. But more than that, by living as the person that you want other people to become, you hold the power inside to influence and inspire every single person around you. You will become a beacon of possibility, and you will show that it's possible to create the life of your dreams, not just for yourself, but for every single person you encounter. Now, Mahatma Gandhi— I'm sure we all know who Gandhi is. I mean, I didn't when I was back in Year 7, and everyone used to say that I had a mouth as dry as Gandhi's flip-flops, but I didn't understand what that meant. End. Um, but anyway, Gandhi famously encouraged us to be the change that you want to see in the world. But what does that really mean in practical terms? You know, the world's problems can feel overwhelming, and that's going to make it hard to imagine how one person can make a difference. Yet every great movement begins with one person who cares enough to take that action. Yeah, there are countless ways to contribute positively to the world, and discovering your unique path can be a lifelong journey. So For a start, we can learn to speak and act with intention, you know, navigate that balance between conflict and peace. You might have been taught that avoiding conflict is the kind thing to do, or that standing up for what's right should always take precedence over anything else. In reality, the right course of action just depends on the situation. You know, sometimes preserving peace is essential, other times speaking out is necessary. To decide when to speak or act, consider, you know, do you have a clear understanding of the truth? Is your comment necessary for clarity or understanding? Is it going to benefit others? Does it strengthen relationships? Is it kind? So if the answer to most of those questions was yes, it's likely a good idea to speak up or take action. However, if you still feel uncertain after thoughtful reflection, for example, it might be wise to listen to your instincts and just wait for a more appropriate time. Sometimes the impact of your words is greater than when you choose the right moment to share them. You could also embrace opportunities for courage because stepping out of your comfort zone, it can be quite intimidating, but it's essential for personal growth. And the more that you push yourself to take risks, the more opportunities you'll discover to make that positive impact. This is particularly important when you're striving to be the change that you want to see in the world, because if you're not willing to change yourself, it's unrealistic to expect other people to do so instead. Okay, so seek out those new experiences that challenge you to grow, you know, set an example for other people to follow. And one of the most prioritizing things, uh, to do for yourself to contribute to all of this is to look at your rest and renewal, your R&R. Okay, creating change is demanding work, you know, sustaining that energy is crucial for long-term success. It's not possible to be at your best every single moment without taking that time to rest. Now, rest goes beyond just getting enough sleep. It's about engaging in activities that rejuvenate you, that fill up your cup, that excite you from within. So whether that be exercise, dancing, spending time with loved ones, reading, whatever it is. The other week, you know, when I was talking about going out to South Shields and pumping it into Jade from Little Mix? That kind of fun. Okay, find what recharges you and make it a regular part of your routine, but start with yourself to inspire change. You know, identifying a change that you want to see in the world is just the beginning of that long journey. You wouldn't suddenly become the leader of a social movement overnight or anything like that, don't worry. The first step is just to look inward, just identify the changes that you need to make within yourself, and then once you've made those changes, you'll be better positioned to influence other people through your example. You'll be able to encourage them to join you as well. And by taking care of yourself and staying committed to your growth, you're going to ensure that you can sustain those efforts for the long haul. So the next time that you wish for change in other people, just remember, you have the power to initiate that change yourself. It all starts with you. Be the person you want others to become. Live the life that you want others to live. Do this and the world around you will follow suit, I promise. Okay, so I hope that that helped you. I hope that it hit exactly the right nerves that it needed to, okay? And just remember to be the change that you want to see in your life. So you might want to journal, you know, think about who you want to be this time next year and then make those appropriate changes. What qualities does that person in a year's time, what qualities do they have? Are they kind? Are they compassionate? Are they generous? Are they joyous? Are they abundant? How do you make those changes in your current life? Journal on that. Okay, so just before we go, either next week or the week after, I am going to be announcing the remaining speakers for Manifest.
