180: Lies you've been told about the Law of Attraction
28 Mar 2025 · 28 min
In this solo‑host episode, Mart Tweedy opens by addressing hateful comments he’s received about the Law of Attraction and his crystal work, using that backlash as a springboard to expose five pervasive myths that he argues actually block manifestation. He systematically debunks each myth: (1) the need to stay "high‑vibe" constantly, (2) the belief that a single negative thought ruins a manifestation, (3) the idea that true letting‑go means doing nothing, (4) the notion that one must be perfect in their techniques, and (5) the assumption that delays signal personal failure. For each myth, he offers concrete, down‑to‑earth strategies—acknowledging emotions, using neutral thought shifts, breathwork, movement, inspired (not forced) action, and focusing on alignment over perfection. Throughout, his tone is conversational, supportive, and occasionally confrontational toward the misinformation. The episode also includes a promotional segment for an upcoming eight‑hour self‑development and manifestation festival in Newcastle (tickets at www.manny‑fest.uk) and repeated calls to follow his social media @canny_crystals. The podcast is bookended by Wayfair Fourth of July clearance advertisements, which are peripheral to the core content.

Wayfair. Every style, every home. Hello everyone and welcome back to another podcast episode. My name is Mart Tweedy, I'm your host, and this week I've got I have something super exciting to talk to you all about. So I mentioned a few episodes ago about some hate messages that I get on social media about how saying the Law of Attraction isn't real, or how crystals are just stones. People even went so far as to call me things like a stupid fuckwit or a loony twat on my post on Facebook, and it was about my new book coming out on launch day as well. I think I'm targeting the wrong people on Facebook ads. Anyway, needless to say, they were removed, blocked, and they had their comments deleted. But it made me really think about how when people don't understand something because they've been told the wrong information, that they just think it's a load of shit. So it made me think about all the lies and the myths that are out there about the Law of Attraction and manifestation, probably doing more harm than good. So this episode is going to be a game changer because we're going to bust some of those biggest manifestation myths that might actually be blocking your desires instead of helping them land. And I see so many people struggling on a day-to-day basis with manifestation, not because they're doing something wrong, but because they've been taught outdated, misleading, or just plain false information about the Law of Attraction and how it actually works. So we're going to get real, we're going to throw out that toxic positivity, we're debunking the myths, and we're going to talk about what actually works when it comes to manifesting your dreams.. And once you let go of these limiting beliefs, manifestation becomes so much easier. So myth number 1: you have to be high vibe all the time to manifest. This is one of the most— the biggest, most toxic myths in the manifestation world. The idea that you have to be high vibe 24/7 to attract what you want, it's a load of crap. You know what I'm talking about, right? The pressure to always be positive, to never feel sad, to never have a bad day because, oh my God, what if I attract something bad? Well, Well, let me tell you something, that is complete and utter nonsense. And not only is it not true, but believing that actually makes manifestations harder because it's going to create guilt, anxiety, and pressure around something that's supposed to feel naturally fun and easy, if that makes sense. So today I'm going to set the record straight. You do not need to be high vibe all the time to manifest what you want. I'm going to break this down for you. This myth is so harmful. Like, if you've ever felt like you had to be happy, positive, or in the vortex all the time to manifest, then you know how exhausting that pressure can be. Because here's the thing: we are humans, we're not robots. Some days you wake up feeling like a glowing manifestation goddess— ta-da! Other days you might feel like a stressed-out gremlin who just wants a nap. And guess what? Both of those days are okay. The problem with this myth is that it creates guilt. People panic every time they feel sad. They think that they've ruined their manifestations. Sometimes it even leads to toxic positivity. You know, people start forcing fake happiness instead of processing those real emotions. But mostly, and what I find, is that it disconnects you from your intuition. So if you're constantly suppressing your emotions, you're ignoring important messages from your subconscious. So let me just be super clear here: your emotions do not cancel your manifestations. The truth is Manifestation is about alignment, not just positivity. So if you don't need to be high vibe all the time, what do you need? It's alignment. That's all it comes down to. Being in alignment means that your thoughts, your actions, and your beliefs are all in sync with what you want, even if you have a bad day. Let's say you're manifesting money. One day you feel stressed about your finances. Does that mean that you've ruined everything? No, of course it doesn't. It's just a temporary feeling. Feelings are fleeting as well. They come and go all day long. It doesn't mean that you've ruined everything. Like, what matters is, do you still believe that abundance is possible for you? Are you still taking small inspired actions to improve your finances? Do you remind yourself daily that one bad day doesn't define your future? That is alignment. That's what keeps your manifestations moving forward, even when you're not feeling 100%. So I wanna get practical here because let's be honest, we all have days where we feel off. So I've got some top tips of how to handle low energy moments without guilt. The first is to acknowledge your emotions instead of fighting them. So instead of saying, "I shouldn't feel this way," just try and say like, "I feel this way right now, and that's all right." Just process what it is that you're feeling right now because emotions are energy. When you let them move through you instead of suppressing them, they pass faster. The second is to do a neutral shift instead of forcing positivity. So if you're feeling, you know, in inverted commas, awful, trying to jump straight into, "I'm so happy and abundant," that's going to feel fake. Instead, go for neutral thoughts instead. Instead of saying, "I'm broke," just try and reframe that to, you know, "Money has come to me in unexpected ways before." Instead of, "I feel like a failure," try, "I'm learning." Progress takes time. When you shift to that neutral, it's way easier than forcing a leap into higher vibes. The third, as we spoke about in a past podcast episode a couple of weeks ago, is to use movement or breathwork just to shift that stagnant energy. Because sometimes low energy isn't just a mindset thing, it's a body thing. Try dancing for 5 minutes, you know, shake off that stuck energy. Try breathwork. Inhale for 4, hold for 4, exhale for 6. It just calms your nervous system. Going for a walk outside resets your energy naturally. But most of all, just trust that your manifestation is bigger than just one bad day. Your dominant energy over time is what manifests, not a one-off moment. So if you have a bad day, just remind yourself, my manifestation is still on its way. One bad mood won't change that. So, you know, you don't need to be high vibe 24/7 to manifest all the time. You're allowed to have days off. You can process emotions without blocking your desires. Alignment matters more than fake positivity, and when you stop trying to force positivity and instead focus on trust in the process, manifestation will become much easier. Myth number 2 is if you think one negative thought, you've ruined your manifestation. Tell me if this sounds familiar, because I'm sure that we all think this at some point. You're working on manifesting something amazing, you're affirming, you're visualizing, you're feeling so good about it, and then bam, a negative thought pops into your head. Suddenly you're like, oh my God, what have I just done? Have I just ruined everything? What if the universe heard that? What if I accidentally manifested the opposite of what I want? And then you start to spiral, trying to cancel out that one bad thought with 20 positive affirmations like, I am abundant, I am abundant, I'm abundant. Oh crap, I thought about debt again. Like, what have I done? Does that sound familiar? Like, I know I do that all the time. But if so, just breathe, because I've got good news for you. One negative thought will not ruin your manifestation. In fact, thinking negatively sometimes is completely normal, and it's not going to magically undo all the work that you've put in. So today I want to bust that myth wide open and talk about what actually matters when it comes to your thoughts and your manifestation. So this myth comes from the idea that like attracts like, which is true to an extent. Yes, your thoughts are going to shape your reality. Yes, your energy and focus influence what you attract. But no, one single bad thought is not powerful enough to wipe out your entire manifestation. Because if that were true, we'd all be in chaos 24/7. Have you ever thought, "Oh, what if I trip and I fall?" But then you don't actually fall? Have you ever had an intrusive thought like, "What if I just yelled in the middle of this quiet cafe?" But you don't actually do it? Exactly. One fleeting thought doesn't control reality. It doesn't automatically create that reality. Does that make sense? I hope it does. Manifestation isn't just about one random thought. It's about your consistent energy over time. Uh, think of it like planting a garden, for example. One negative thought is like one weed. Yeah, it's annoying, but it's not going to destroy the whole garden unless you obsess over it. But if you keep tending to your garden, you keep watering it with positive beliefs, you keep pulling out the weeds when they show up, your manifestations will still bloom beautifully. So instead of panicking over one bad thought, just ask yourself, what are my overall dominant beliefs? Am I focusing on my manifestation more than my doubts? Am I doing the work to shift my mindset over time? If the answer to any of them is yes, then you're fine. You haven't ruined anything, okay? So don't resist it, just let it pass. The worst thing you can do is fight against the thought. If you think, what if this never happens, and then you immediately spiral, you're actually just giving that thought more power. So instead, just say to yourself, like, that's just a passing thought, it doesn't actually mean anything. And what I like to do is I like to imagine it floating away like a cloud. If you've ever done any kind of mindfulness training or a mindfulness, um, class or anything like that, they always tell you to think of your thoughts as passing clouds. And you just visualize it like there, you visualize the thought, and you visualize it just floating off and dissipating. Okay, that's all it is. So your mind is always thinking, and it's your reaction to the thought that matters, not the thought itself. Okay, so instead of kind of obsessing over individual thoughts, just look at your overall patterns. Ask yourself, am I spending most of my time in belief and trust? Am I taking any actions towards me desires? Because if yes, then one bad thought is going to mean nothing. You are still aligned, okay? So one negative thought will not ruin your manifestation because your dominant beliefs and your energy over time are what matter. You don't have to fight every bad thought, you just need to learn to let them pass. Your manifestations are always in motion, even if you doubt it sometimes. So the next time you catch yourself thinking, "Oh no, I've just had a bad thought," just remind yourself, thoughts come and go. Manifestations are still on the way. The universe isn't petty. It's not out here punishing you for having human emotions. You are always manifesting, and you are always being guided. So myth number 3 is that manifestation only works if you let go and do nothing. So this is one of the most confusing myths in the manifestation world, the idea that you're supposed to just let go and do absolutely absolutely nothing for your manifestation to happen.
Uh-uh.
Like, I get it, we've all heard it before. Just trust the universe, don't take action, let go and it'll come. And yeah, don't get us wrong, there are some truths in the idea of releasing attachment, but let's be real, if you're manifesting a new job and you just sit in your house waiting for someone to magically find you, how well is that going to work out for you? I mean, good luck to you. So I want to talk about what letting go actually means, because it's not what most people think. And why inspired action is not the same as forcing things, and how to work with the universe instead of just waiting around. So, you know, this myth is just so misleading because it comes from half-truths about the Law of Attraction. Yes, desperation and attachment can block your manifestation, but no, sitting around doing nothing is not the key to success. Okay, think of it this way: you wouldn't plant seeds in your garden and then say, "Well, I'm just going to sit back now and let go." hopefully flowers will appear someday. Of course you wouldn't. You'd water them. You'd make sure that they got ample sunlight. You'd remove the weeds like we were just saying there. Manifestation works in exactly the same way. Setting your intention is like planting the seed. Taking inspired action is watering the seed. Trusting the process is not digging it up every 5 minutes to check if it's working and to check if it's got roots. Does that make sense? So what does letting go actually mean? So the real reason people say that you should let go is because they're talking about releasing resistance. So they're actually talking about letting go of doubt, you know, trusting that your manifestation is happening even if you can't see it yet, or letting go of control in the how, not micromanaging every single detail or obsessing over timelines, and also letting go of forcing energy. So shifting from chasing your desire to allowing it to flow to you. It's a very fine line, I get it, but letting go does not mean sitting around doing nothing. It doesn't mean ignoring opportunities that show up or avoiding action because you're waiting for a miracle. The universe doesn't reward inaction, it rewards alignment. Now, some people hear the words "take action" and immediately think of hustling, grinding, or struggling, but that's not what I'm talking about here. Inspired action is action that feels fun, aligned, and natural. Forcing action is action that feels desperate, stressful, and draining. For example, let's say you're manifesting love. Inspired action might be feeling good within yourself, saying yes to new experiences with friends, joining a dating app because it feels exciting and new and fresh to you. Whereas on the flip side, forcing action could be swiping frantically on every dating app, or obsessively checking messages to see if anyone's messaged you to go out for a date, or feeling frustrated when nothing happens. Or if you're trying to manifest money, for example, inspired action could be feeling abundant, following intuitive nudges, applying for jobs that excite you, investing in personal growth. Whereas that force in action is going to be hustling from a place of fear, taking jobs that you hate just for the paycheck, or stressing over every single penny that's in your bank. The difference is that one comes from trust and the other comes from lack. I'll let you decide which is which. When you take that inspired action, you're telling the universe, I believe in my manifestation so much that I'm already moving towards it. And that energy is magnetic. So if you're wondering, am I doing enough, am I doing too much, this is a simple way to check, okay? Does the action feel aligned or does it feel desperate? Are you taking steps because you trust it's coming or because you're scared that it won't? Are you staying open to signs and opportunities or are you trying to control everything? Okay, I've got a simple inspired action formula that I use. So number 1 is to set your intention clearly. Know what you want. Number 2 is to listen to your intention, so just notice any nudges, any good feelings, any synchronicities. Number 3 is take action that feels good, so follow inspired ideas, not forced ones. Number 4 is to detach from the results, so don't stress if things don't happen instantly. And number 5 is to stay open to miracles because the universe can surprise you in ways that you never expected. So you don't have to sit around and do nothing. You do not have to let go in a way that stops you from taking action. You do not have to wait forever for things to magically appear. What you do need to do is to release doubt and trust in the process, take action that feels good, and stay open to unexpected opportunities. That's what it's about. That's what letting go is, because manifestation is a co-creation. It's about meeting the universe halfway. That is letting go. It doesn't mean sitting back and doing absolutely f-all. Okay, myth number 4. Um, where am I on my list? There we go. Myth number 4 is you have to be perfect at manifesting for it to work. No. How many times have you worried that you're not manifesting right? I do it every day, and it's just a subconscious thing. I worry every day. Oh, I didn't feel that feeling like I should have, or I didn't feel it the way that I did the first time. I didn't evoke enough emotion when I was working with my crystals last night. Oh my God, what have I done? Like, there is no right or wrong way, okay? Have you ever worried, like, what if I'm not visualizing correctly? What if my scripting isn't detailed enough? Did I say me affirmation with the wrong energy? Did I just mess up me entire manifestation? If you've ever felt like manifestation is a test and you have to get a perfect score or else it won't work, I need you to take a deep breath and let that shit go. Honestly, let it go. You don't need to have the perfect morning routine. You don't need to do the 369 scripting flawlessly. You don't need to meditate for exactly 17 seconds every time. That's not what it is. The universe is not grading you, it's not scoring you, it's not keeping a check. The idea that you have to get everything right in manifestation is actually doing the opposite of what you want, because it's going to create stress and overthinking. It's going to make manifestation feel like a chore instead of something fun and natural, and it's going to keep you stuck in 'am I doing enough' instead of just trusting the process. Energy is everything in manifestation. So if you're constantly feeling like I have to get this perfect or it won't work. Guess what? That energy of doubt is what's actually slowing things down. That pressure is making it harder to be in flow, and that fear is keeping you in a state of forcing instead of receiving. So manifestation isn't strict. It's not a rule-based system where if you miss a step, you know, your desires will just vanish. It's about energy, trust, and alignment, not perfection. Ask yourself, have you ever randomly manifested something amazing? When you weren't even thinking about it? It's happened to me a few times. Have you ever been in a good mood and then suddenly good things started to flow to you effortlessly? Happens to me all the time. Have you ever wished for something without using techniques and it just happened? That's because your energy over time matters more than following every single manifestation rule. So if you do miss a day of affirmations, or you do miss journaling, or you haven't tapped today, you know, that's okay. You're still manifesting, you know. I always tell people manifestation loves consistency, not perfection. So if you're visualizing with some excitement, that's enough. If you're affirming most days, that's enough. If you're doing what feels natural and fun instead of forcing techniques, that's enough. It's like most bodybuilders in the gym, yeah, most of them go like every day, but they don't— they're not there 24/7. They don't live there. They don't physically do it constantly, consistently, like every single day for 24 hours a day, but they're still building muscle. It's more about consistency, not perfection, okay? When you're consistent but relaxed, your energy stays in a state of trust and flow, and that's so much more powerful than obsessively trying to do it right all the time. So if you've been feeling pressure to get everything right, you know, you don't need 10 different manifestation techniques every day. The only thing you need to do is feel aligned with what you want. If a technique feels fun and natural, do it. If it feels forced and stressful, let it go. Trust me when I say this, right? Manifestation isn't supposed to feel like a second job, and I feel like a few people that message me are so overwhelmed and so stressed because they're trying to do too much. You don't have to know everything for manifestation to work. You don't have to have every detail planned out. The universe has a way bigger perspective than you. It knows how to bring things to you in ways that you haven't even considered, okay? And just let yourself be human as well. Just breathe. Some days you're going to feel super connected to your manifestations. Other days you might feel like it's all a mess and nothing's happening. Both of those days are normal. So instead of judging yourself, you know, if you're feeling low energy, just do one small thing like listen to music that makes you feel abundant say one affirmation, or just take one deep breath. If you miss a day of journaling or scripting, just pick it back up the next day. There's no guilt, no stress. I feel like when we did The Magic, if any of you have done that book by Rhonda Byrne, in that book it's almost like a bit of a guilt trip because she's like, if you miss one day of journaling or one day of doing these techniques and giving gratitude, you've got to go back 3 days. I think for the first 4 or 5 times that I read that friggin' book, I didn't even finish it because I was like getting to day 14 or something, and then all of a sudden I'm back 3 days. So I'm back to 11, then I do 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, back 3 days. And it's just like, oh my God, this is never-ending. And it almost feels like there's so much pressure and so much stress. But like I said, don't worry about it. If you doubt your manifestation for a moment, just remind yourself, doubt doesn't cancel your desires. At the end of the day, the universe doesn't require perfection.. It just requires belief, okay? So you don't have to be perfect to manifest. You do not have to follow every single rule. You do not need to panic if you skip a day. You just need to trust that good enough is still powerful. You need to focus on feeling aligned, not following a strict checklist, and you just need to let yourself be human at the end of the day. When you stop trying to be perfect, manifestation actually becomes way easier and way more fun. And then lastly on my list is myth number 5: If your manifestation hasn't happened yet, you're doing something wrong. Tell me if you've ever thought this before: I've been manifesting for so long, why isn't it happening yet? Am I doing something wrong? Did I miss a step? What if the universe forgot about me? That frustration of waiting, of feeling like nothing is shifting, or wondering if you're just wasting your time— it's awful. I know it is. But the truth is, just because your manifestation hasn't arrived yet, it doesn't mean it's not happening. And it definitely doesn't mean that you're doing something wrong. So I want to break down why delays don't mean failure and what's actually happening behind the scenes. I want to talk about the difference between divine timing and resistance, because yes, there is a difference, and how to stay in trust mode instead of slipping into panic mode. So this myth for me is really frustrating because it's one of the hardest to deal with, because it really makes people doubt themselves and question the universe and feel like giving up as well. And you know, so many people quit right before their manifestation is about to happen. Like, imagine baking a cake. You mix all the ingredients, you pop it in the oven, and after 10 minutes you open the door and you say, "Oh, it's not ready yet. I must have done something wrong." So you throw the whole cake away. That's exactly what's happening here. But the truth is, you just need to let it bake a little longer. Your manifestations work in exactly the same way. If your manifestation hasn't shown up yet, there's probably a few reasons as to why. But none of them mean that you're failing. It could be divine timing, you know, things are lining up behind the scenes. Sometimes your manifestation is on its way but the right conditions aren't fully in place yet. The universe is always orchestrating things that you can't see. Maybe the job that you want is opening up in a month, maybe your soulmate is moving to your city soon. Your manifestation might be arriving at the perfect moment, not the moment that you expect. Or it could be that you're being redirected to something even bigger. Have you ever noticed how sometimes the thing that you wanted doesn't actually happen, but then later down the line you get something even better and even bigger? Sometimes what you're asking for isn't actually the best thing for you, and the universe knows that. So instead of thinking, why isn't this happening, just try asking, what if something even better is coming? What if something better is on the horizon for me? Um, it could be that you're still in the preparation phase because Manifestation isn't just about getting what you want, it's about becoming the version of you who is fully ready to receive it. And just ask yourself, like, am I truly ready for this, or is this something that I need to learn first? Is there something in my current reality that needs to shift before I receive this? Because like I say, sometimes the delay isn't about the thing itself, it's about your readiness for the thing. So instead of spiraling into that 'why isn't this here yet' energy, there are a few different things that you can do to stay aligned and just trust the process. And I think the first is to focus on feeling good now, not when it arrives. So if you're always saying, "I'll be happy when I get X, Y, and Z," you're actually creating that resistance. So instead, just find ways to feel happy, fulfilled, and abundant now. Manifestation happens fastest when you vibrate at the frequency of having, not waiting. Um, another thing that you could try is to take inspired action whilst trusting the timing. So if you're manifesting love, like, are you putting yourself in spaces where you could actually meet people, or are you just sat on the house like watching bloody Loose Women all day? If you're manifesting a job, are you showing up fully in the opportunities that you have? If you're manifesting money, are you opening yourself to new income sources? Taking action whilst trusting the timing will get you into that state of manifestation flow. Another thing that you can try is to detach from the timeline and just let it unfold naturally. When you're constantly checking, where is it, why isn't it here yet, you're actually pushing it away. You know, manifestation isn't about obsessing, it's about knowing it's already yours and allowing it to come. So instead of, why hasn't this happened yet, just try, it's already on its way and I'm excited to receive it. Okay, so if your manifestation hasn't already arrived yet, it does not mean that you're failing. You are not doing anything wrong and you don't need to try harder or fix yourself you just need to learn to trust the timing. Manifestations have their own perfect timeline. Sometimes delays just mean divine redirection is something even better, but your energy of trust, belief, and inspired action will keep the process moving. So next time you catch yourself thinking, "Why isn't it here yet? What if I'm doing something wrong?" just remind yourself, if it's not here yet, it's either still aligning or something even better is coming, because your manifestations are happening. You just have to trust that they are on their way. So I hope that this episode has given you the permission to release the pressure, drop that guilt, and just trust that you're already manifesting in the best way for you. Because at the end of the day, manifestation isn't about perfectionism. Like I say, it's not about being high vibe all the time. It's not about erasing every negative thought out your head or sitting back and doing nothing. It's about alignment, belief, and trust in the timing of your desires.. So the next time that you catch yourself stressing over, am I doing this right, just want you to pause, take a breath, and remind yourself you are already enough. Your manifestations are already out there and they're already on their way to you. Okay, so if this episode has resonated with you, please let me know. Please tag me on Instagram or TikTok.
