224: This one tool changed my January
30 Jan 2026 · 24 min
Mart Tweedy did a 31-day gratitude practice in January and says it changed everything. He got a £300 face mask, free meals at two steakhouses, a £350 spa day, and Bluey tickets. He argues gratitude isn't just feeling good, it's a shift that opens you up and makes opportunities feel natural.

Acast helps creators launch, grow, and monetize their podcasts everywhere. Acast.com. Hello everyone, welcome back to another episode of Canny Crystals the podcast. I hope that you're all well. My name is Mart Tweedy, I am your host, and what a wild January it's been. What a wild January. Never usually is. I truly feel like it's absolutely flown by this year. Usually I'm sat here on the 92nd day of the month wondering when will this bloody month end, But I've had a super busy one and a super exciting one as well. Lots of opportunities. Usually I feel like January just drags its tits across the floor, doesn't it? It usually feels quite like drawn out and long and such a hard month financially and energetically for so many of us. And I don't particularly like the cold, dark, drab mornings. It's just nasty. It's a horrible month. But anyway, I've been doing my 31 Days of Gratitude course live over in the Academy with you all, and I just wanted to share some of the absolutely wild results that I've had because of doing this. Like, I know I always bang on about how gratitude is the single most powerful action that we can take to shift our energy and magnetize ourselves to the frequency of love and enoughness, but honestly, the best results always come from gratitude. So anyway, like I said, I was doing my 31 days of gratitude in the Academy, cannycrystalsacademy.co.uk, get to know if you want to get involved, and by day 5, I got contacted by this company over on Instagram. Now I want to put all of this into context for you all because I've been doing Canny Crystals for roughly 5 years now. I can't believe it's actually been 5 years, and I could probably count on one hand how many freebies I've had because it's not why I do Canny Crystals at all. Like, I'm not an influencer, I don't like advertising things that I know absolutely zero about, but obviously that said, if something is amazing and it's made a difference in my life, I'll rant and rave about it till the cows come home. But that's just not what I do or what I'm about. Like, nothing is a money grab for me. So this PR company reach out to me and they say, 'Hey Mart, we know that you're into manifestation, mindset, spirituality, but we also love that you bring in an aspect of self-care and self-love. We are currently working with Shark to gift a few micro-influencers a few beauty products. Do you have an email address so we can contact you on?' And so here's me thinking, Shark? Beauty products? They're gonna send me a hoover or something. I didn't know Shark did beauty products, did you? So anyway, I emailed them and I just thought, what have I got to lose? I sent them me home address and I really just showed me appreciation and gratitude for them even thinking of me in the first place, because like I say, things like this don't happen for me a lot. So imagine my surprise a couple of weeks later when I get this huge box delivered to me house not having ordered anything. And by this point, I'd been spinning so many bloody plates, like so many that you wouldn't even believe, that I'd just totally forgotten about the Shark offer and the email that I'd sent them back. So I open this box and I see a Shark Cryoglow face mask staring back at me. If you don't know what one of them is, please go and Google it. It's so weird, it makes me look like friggin Iron Man. My first thought was to check the front of this box because I thought 'this isn't mine, it must have been delivered to me by mistake, it must be one of the neighbors, I didn't order this.' But there on the front of this box was my name and address. Now I've been doing quite a lot of work for Francesca Amber at the minute, helping her totally remodel her entire business. I've been helping her out with delegating her admin tasks, you know, all of that jazz, all the dirty stuff that nobody sees behind the scenes. And she felt really unsupported in her business, so I stepped in. I just helped out wherever I could, to the point that she rang us one day, she had tears of happiness because she felt so free. So I just kind of put two and two together, and I came up with 5, thinking, "Ooh, I wonder if this is a little thank you from Fran," because the last time I helped her out like this, she sent me a little gift set and some personalized chocolates just to basically, like, thank me for doing it. So I just assumed that this was off her. So I open me phone, I go into WhatsApp, and guess what? It wasn't from her. I must have sat puzzled for the best part of an hour wondering where the hell this mask has come from before the penny obviously dropped. So I went back onto this message from this PR company on Instagram, and I realized they'd actually sent me the tracking details for the package that was coming to us. And this was that package. It had been delivered that morning. This was the package. So I Googled this mask, right? They're around £300. £300. So obviously I sent them a message back telling them how grateful I was and that I would use it, I would post content about it when I do so. And I just remember thinking to myself, like, wow, if this is what I get from doing my 31 Days of Gratitude for just a few short days, then what else would I be able to attract into my life if I really embodied that gratitude? And so I remember going to bed that night, and I lay on me bed, I was like clinging on to me Moldavite for dear life. This was just before I'd gone to sleep, and for a period of maybe about 2 minutes or so, just before I slept, I embodied that future version of me, you know, making videos of content, opening the door to the postman, jumping for joy with excitement and happiness for what I'd received. And this was to the point that I was literally smiling away to meself with me eyes closed like a psycho. Anyway, a couple of days later, there's another email in me inbox asking if I'd like to go to Miller Carter to try their Sunday dinner board. Spoiler alert, I already tried it last year, it's incredible. So obviously I said yes to that. I thought, there's another win. The next day there's a message asking if I want to go to Rio Steakhouse here in Newcastle to try their food. Another spoiler alert, I go there all the bloody time. That's incredible as well. So I said yes to that as well. So I'm sat here, second weekend of January, I've been gifted a £300 face mask and 2 free meals for me and my partner. Like, what, what was, what the hell is going on? I couldn't get my head around it. So I remember just feeling like truly deeply into that gratitude, and each morning when I was getting up, I would go in the shower and say something like, thank you so much for all these amazing opportunities that have come out of absolutely nowhere. And then I'd end it with an affirmation. So if you know, you know, go back and listen to my episode all about affirmations if you don't know what they are. So my affirmation would be something like Why do beautiful opportunities and experiences come into my life daily in unexpected ways? Because an open-ended question like that just really gets the brain like searching for evidence to answer that question. So I opened me inbox later that day, and guess what? I've been gifted a £350 spa day at a location of my choice at any Center Parcs. Like, by this point I'm thinking, what the fuck is going on? Has someone wrote my details on a toilet wall somewhere? Where are all opportunities coming from. And so I'm looking at me diary and I thought, you know what, I think Fran could really do with a little spa day. And when I looked, there was one about 45 minutes from where she lived, so I booked it for me and her. And last Friday we went and it was absolutely amazing. We got a free lunch, free spa treatments, we had a group meditation and sleep session. Fran had 4 naps in total across the day. It was so relaxing. I had an Indian head massage towards the end of the day, right? And when I came out of this room, the woman who was making me a cup of tea just said, "Just to let you know, your wife will be along in a second, sir." And I was like, this lady clearly hasn't heard me speak. So I'm sat there with me cup of tea, Fran comes and joins me, and we're just so chilled, lay on these little loungers. And this lady comes over to us— big shout out to Stacy from AquaSana in Sherwood Forest— and she says, "Oh my God, I've just seen your name on our treatment list. I thought it was you. I listen to your podcast every week. I just wanted to come and say hi." Slight data protection breach there, Stacey, but I'll allow it on this occasion. Now, the reason that I mentioned this is because I barely ever get recognized. Whenever I'm with Fran, people obviously recognize me through her because obviously she's amazing, she has a gigantic following. But this lady was all about me, and I was sat there thinking, am I in the Twilight Zone right now? What is going on in January? Maybe I've jumped timelines, maybe I fell into a parallel universe. Who knows? So a couple of days after this beautiful spa day, I went to me good friends Claire and Julie's new business launch at Seaham Hall. The venue itself was so beautiful that I was walking through the building just reminding myself of how grateful I am to be there on a random Wednesday afternoon and to be able to call that work as well. And I saw that Cancer Research were there asking for donations for a little raffle that they were holding, so I happily donated. And as the raffle started being drawn, maybe an hour or so later, I was sat there in me seat, I closed me eyes, and I just visualised them saying me name and me jumping up out of me chair all excited, as you would if you won a prize. So I was feeling gratitude for being there in the first place, for the free parking outside, for the free welcome drinks that I'd had, for the people that I'd met and was speaking with at the event. And I kid you not, the second I opened my eyes with a great big smile on me face, My name is bellowing out the speakers and everyone's looking at us and clapping. I literally paused for a second because it kind of felt like I was still inside of my visualisation, if that makes sense. I wasn't sure if I'd even open me eyes or not. But no, I'd won a prize on the raffle. I won tickets to go and see Bluey live on stage at Sunderland Empire. So I'm taking me little boy to go and see that. The perfect little daddy and son day out. He absolutely loves Bluey anyway, so that was such a win. And then I get home from that event and I'm contacted by two companies on Instagram, one inviting me to a launch of a cabaret show bar with a sit-down 3-course meal and drinks free of charge, and then another asking if I'd come down to try out this new wine bar with free drinks and nibbles in exchange for a reel on Instagram, both of these in Newcastle. What is happening? Am I a food and drinks influencer now?
Maybe.
Who knows? But as I mentioned earlier, I never get much for free. So, I really don't understand where all of this has come from, concentrated into the last, I'm gonna say, 2 to 3 weeks while I've been doing 31 Days of Gratitude. The only thing that I have done differently this last month is concentrate on gratitude in different areas of me life. I'm putting all this down to gratitude. So, I really wanna expand on this because this isn't a kind of "look what I've got" episode. It's not me just bragging. This isn't me flexing freebies or saying, "Do gratitude and you'll get spa days and face masks, woohoo!" That's not the point of this episode. The point is what shifted inside of me before any of this actually showed up on the outside. Because when I think of gratitude, I think of it as not pretending that everything is perfect or not slapping a positive spin on a shitty day. It's more about anchoring yourself into a frequency where you already feel supported or safe or held or even enough, okay? And when you do that, life responds very differently to you. So it's not all about what you receive, it's more about who you become while practicing it. So this month didn't just bring me experiences or gifts, it changed the way that I show up in my own life. Once I got that first thing, I was like, oh my God, I'm a bougie bitch. And I was walking around like a bougie bitch, and I was like practicing gratitude like a bougie bitch. And that's the bit that people miss, because gratitude doesn't just attract things, it rewires your entire identity. When you consistently practice gratitude, you stop seeing yourself as someone who is waiting for life to start, and you stop seeing yourself as someone who needs permission or validation or proof before you feel okay in your life. And instead, you start acting like someone that life happens with, not to. And that subtle shift is really everything. And I realized that for a long time, even though I teach manifestation and mindset, Part of me was still in effort mode. I was still in that mode of keep going, keep pushing, keep proving. And gratitude just dissolved all of that. It's reminded me that I don't need to hustle for worthiness. I don't need to chase to be chosen. And once I got that into me head and it sank in, I feel like me whole body relaxed. And when your body relaxes, your intuition gets louder, doesn't it? So I started making decisions from a calmer space. I was saying yes because it felt expansive, not because I was scared to miss out. I was saying no more without guilt. I was trusting nudges without over-analyzing them. And when you start to live like that, life responds in kind. So you'll start to notice how often you're being guided, protected, redirected. And gratitude sharpens your awareness to all of those moments. Another thing that I've noticed throughout January as well is how much more present I've become. So I've not been constantly, you know, living 3 steps ahead in my head. I wasn't thinking, "How can I leverage this?" or "What does this mean for the future?" I was just living in the moment. I was just being appreciative and grateful for what was actually coming to me. I was enjoying what was happening. And I think presence is really powerful and overlooked as well because presence is magnetic. It's attractive because people feel it. Opportunities feel it. And this is where gratitude really becomes an energetic amplifier because when you're grateful, you're not signaling lack. You're not signaling need even. You're not signaling, "Please give me more of this because I don't have enough." You are signaling fullness, and fullness attracts more fullness. But I think that when we break gratitude down as well, it removes expectation. And I think expectation is one of the biggest blocks that people don't realize that they're carrying. When you expect something to show up in a very specific and certain way, whether it be by a certain time or from a certain source, you close yourself off to everything else. It's like a horse putting its blinkers on, whereas gratitude helps you stay open, and it says, "I trust you." It's saying, "Surprise me." And honestly, life loves that energy. None of the things that I mentioned earlier in this episode came from places that I was watching or waiting. They were very unexpected, very unplanned, very surprising. And that's exactly how manifestation works when you're not gripping the steering wheel. I know some of you listening will be thinking, "But what if nothing happens?" And I want to gently challenge that because something is already happening for you. You're breathing, you're listening, you're alive. You are here right now listening to this episode. Gratitude trains your brain to notice what is already working instead of constantly scanning for what's missing. And once your brain shifts, then your reality's got to follow as well. This is why gratitude is the foundation of everything that I teach. Before affirmations, before visualization, before taking action. Because if your internal world is tense or rushed or desperate or resentful, nothing else is going to stick. Nothing else that you try is going to stick. Whereas gratitude stabilizes you and grounds you, and it creates emotional and energetic resilience. And then from that place, manifestation becomes natural, not forced. So if you're feeling a little stuck right now, or overwhelmed, or like life's just not meeting you where you are, don't try to manifest harder. Don't add any more techniques. Don't pressure yourself to stay high vibe 24/7. It's only going to do you harm. Come back to gratitude. And when I say gratitude, I don't mean as a list. Okay, I just mean like come back to gratitude as a feeling or a way of being. It's almost like a daily decision to meet life with appreciation instead of resistance. So if you're listening to this thinking, well, that's great for you, Mark, but my life doesn't look like that right now, I want you to hear this clearly. Gratitude doesn't require your life to be good first. Gratitude just meets you exactly where you are. You can be grateful in the middle of uncertainty. You can be grateful while things are messy. You can be grateful while you're still figuring it out. You can be grateful in the middle aisle at Lidl if you really want to. In fact, that's probably when it works best. Start small. Be grateful for the mundane little things, the boring things, the overlooked things, the things that you usually rush past. You know, things like your hot shower, your bed, your breath, your body carrying you through another day. And then just layer in gratitude for what hasn't arrived yet as if it already has. Not in a desperate way, just, just a calm way. Just trustingly, like someone who knows that it's already been handled. And if you want support with that, that's exactly why I created the 31 Days of Gratitude. I didn't create it for you to just tick a box and think, "Oh well, that's me gratitude done for today." It was to gently rewire the way that you relate to your life, your body, your mind, and your future. Because when gratitude becomes who you are, not just something that you do, everything is going to start shifting for you. Life doesn't suddenly become perfect, but it will become kinder and lighter and more cooperative as well. And you'll start realizing that, you know, maybe, just maybe, things have been working out for you far more than you ever gave them credit for. And this actually brings me perfectly into what I want to wrap this episode up with because I think that gratitude and self-love are inseparable. You cannot truly practice gratitude while fundamentally rejecting yourself, can you? You cannot build real self-love while constantly criticizing or abandoning yourself. They feed each other, gratitude and self-love. They amplify each other. And this is exactly why Magnetic Self-Love is starting this Sunday, Sunday the 1st of February, 2026. And I want to be really clear about something before I go any further with this as well, because Magnetic Self-Love is a 14-day challenge that I created, and before you go thinking it's just going to be me telling you to take bubble baths, force confidence, or tell yourself that you're amazing when you don't believe it, it's not. It's not about that at all. It's not about pretending that you love yourself when actually you're exhausted, burnt out, overwhelmed, or doubting yourself. This challenge was created for the people who are doing their best who are trying to grow, trying to show up, but who still speak to themselves in ways that they would never speak to someone that they loved. Because self-love is quite subtle. It's the way that you talk to yourself when no one else is listening. It's how you treat yourself when things don't go to plan. And it's whether you punish yourself for having a bad day or you just allow yourself to be human. Most people don't realize how much their inner relationship is actually shaping their outer reality. When you don't feel safe within yourself, within your own body, you constantly chase reassurance externally. So you might overgive or overthink, or you might even just settle for second best. You might even tolerate things that just don't sit right with you, or you might wait for permission to rest or to be chosen or to be enough. Now, that energy is going to leak into everything, whether it be your relationships, your money, your confidence, your ability to receive, So Magnetic Self-Love is about changing that at the root. We're not going to force anything. We are just going to gently rebuild trust with yourself, teaching your nervous system that you're safe, that you've got your own back, that you don't need to earn rest or love or validation. Because when you stop abandoning yourself, the world will stop mirroring that abandonment back to yourself. So as always with any of my challenges, over these 14 days we are not aiming for perfection. We're just aiming for honesty. We're going to look at the stories that you've been carrying about yourself, or your worth, or your body, your past, your relationships, and we're just going to loosen their grip. That's all we're going to do. We're going to create space for compassion where there's previously been pressure in your life. We're just going to understand where there's been judgment and softness where there's been self-attack. That's all we're going to do. And here's the thing, when your relationship with yourself changes everything else follows. People will start to respond to you differently. Opportunities will feel safer to step into. You might even stop self-sabotaging things that actually feel good. You'll stop pushing away what you say you want, and you'll become available for more because you are no longer fighting yourself internally. And that's exactly why I called it Magnetic Self-Love, because I think magnetism isn't about trying harder.. It's just about removing that resistance. It's about alignment and being so anchored in yourself that you don't need to chase to prove yourself or to perform well. You just are. That energy is powerful. So if you've ever wondered why you can manifest for everyone else but you struggle when it comes to yourself, this is exactly why. So if you've ever felt like you're doing all the right things but you still feel blocked, this is why. Self-love isn't a nice extra. It is the foundation of all that we do alongside gratitude, and without it, everything else is just going to feel heavier than it needs to. So if something in you knows deep inside that you are ready to stop being at war with yourself, or maybe you're just sick and tired of being your own, like, harshest critic, if you're ready to feel safer, steadier, more supported from the inside out, that's exactly why I made this challenge. This challenge is for you. So Magnetic Self-Love starts this Sunday, the 1st of February, and I can honestly say it's one of the most important things that I've ever created. Not because it promises any quick fixes or flashy results, but because it actually helps you come home to yourself. And once you do that, everything else will start to fall into place naturally. You don't need to become someone new, you just need to stop withholding love from who you already are. So if you want to get involved, head on over to kanyacrystalsacademy.co.uk/love The link for this is in the show notes as well. I've even set up a WhatsApp group for accountability that you get instant access to as well. There are very limited seats left in the challenge.
