This is a YouTube video titled "2 Pieces of Advice I Give My Sales Reps👆 | Matthew Ryder" containing a monologue by Matthew Ryder recorded in February 2024. In the video, Matthew Ryder shares his approach to employee retention and honest communication with his sales team, emphasizing transparency, understanding, and support for their decisions.
I feel like one of the reasons why our retention has been pretty good is because, like, I will try and give someone, I think, realistic assertion as to what's happening in real time and try and make sure they understand my biases. I will say, listen, man, I'm going to give you two pieces of advice. The first is me as your boss. Obviously, I want you to stay. You have to understand that what I'm about to say to you is with the context that I would like you to stay. And the second piece of advice that I give you will be much less biased. It's like, help me understand what you're feeling, what you're thinking, the reasons for it, and sometimes, like, we've screwed up. If you will allow me an opportunity to fix it, I would love one. If not, fair enough. I understand. And you need to do what's best for you and your family. My stance has never been different. Sometimes people end up six months later coming back and realizing the grass wasn't greener. And sometimes they end up hating me for no reason. I don't know. It is what it is.
