This is a YouTube video titled "Empathetic People The Best Leaders? | Leadership Shorts" containing a discussion between two speakers about leadership qualities, particularly empathy versus direct communication and principles, recorded in early 2023. The speakers share personal perspectives on effective leadership based on their experiences.
The reality is that people in the trenches don't need to wait for research. Even though this is now finally becoming in fad, this is something that's been a reality for me for the last 25 years. The reason for this video is for a lot of you, there's a lot of things you believe in that pop culture, mainstream media society other humans haven't bought into yet. As you go into 2023, lean into the shit that you believe in.
When I was running and gunning and shooting terrorists for a living, I didn't go to the most empathetic as a leader. I don't know if empathy is the most important leadership quality. Obviously Gary Vee is probably a super empathetic guy, you know, and maybe that makes him a great leader. I'm a fairly decent leader and I don't do that through empathy. I do that through, like open lines of communication, being very direct with people and also like just being true to my principles. Does that make me empathetic? Not particularly. Does it make me effective? Yes.
