One sales skill that made me a better dad would be probing and clarifying. I think is like the main one. So like when my kids are fighting or if I want to get something across to my kids, just the mere asking why or asking how so is super powerful. So they're like, you're really mean. Why is that? Because of this. What do you mean by that? And just those little probes because what they do is they just effortlessly disarm little kids because they haven't really thought deeply about their positions, right? Because they're like little kids. And instead of getting angry because like kids say stupid things, it's who they are and what they do. Like it's like whole point, that's why they're little, right? They're allowed to say stupid things because they're no physical threat to you. And they learn that as they get older, like as they become more physically threatening, then like the consequences of their words are far more like in the outer kind of world is far more real. So they get to be raucous while they're little, but just simply calmly probing and clarifying just diffuses a lot of would be tantrums. Now mind you, that won't work for a three year old. They'll just scream and shit their pants. But like after that you should be pretty sweet.
