How The GRIFT Of "MINDSET" & "TRAUMA RELEASE" Really Works (HINT: Its worse than you think)

Matt Ryder breaks down how personal-development events engineer emotional breakdowns using dim lighting, music, and exhaustion to fake transformation. He argues tearing people down takes a weekend to learn, but rebuilding requires years of licensed clinical training. The industry screens nobody, offers no follow-up care, and profits from expensive upsells.

Any idiot can make a grown man cry in a hotel ballroom. I want you to sit with that. I want you to like understand that it's not hard, it's not a gift, it's not a calling. You put someone in a dark room, you play a nice lo-fi guitar beat, add some 7th chords in there, okay, because that's like worship music has that, right? You keep them up for 14 hours, you make them tired, you emotionally expose them in front of hundreds of people, and then you ask them about their father. That's it. That's the whole technique. Like, that's all you to learn. It also works if you don't feed them as well. Okay, the man cries, the room applauds, he gives the guy on stage or whoever in the Bali retreat a hug, they post about it and they say it was a transformative weekend, that their whole life is going to be different. Then he goes home and nobody is there on Tuesday. Here's the big part about this business model that nobody actually explains to you: breaking somebody down and building somebody up are very different skill sets. They're not two halves of the same skill. They're not even in the same category. When you're renovating a house, you have a demolition crew. It's a completely different crew to the construction crew. You wouldn't let the demo crew frame your house, for example. Okay, but the real problem is tearing a person open is like a 2-day skill. It just, it just genuinely is. You could learn the mechanics of it over a weekend BS certification. You could have thousands of other people there, and it's just not that difficult of a skill. And, and that is the problem in itself. Putting a person back together is a multi-year clinical discipline that requires supervision, screening, scope of practice limits, a licensing board, malpractice insurance, a complaints process. Not just like, you have a bad mindset, bro. And there's a reason that the job takes 6 to 10 years to qualify. It's because the failure is a human being. So when a mindset coach with a certification that they bought online or attended some Zoom courses and comes in and basically does a weekend demolition with zero of the second thing, that's not coaching. It's the same as just like going in, performing surgery, leaving their chest open, and then bouncing out. And this is why I have a serious problem with mindset and like trauma release coaches and the predation of this within the information industry. And what I'm going to do is I'm going to take you behind the scenes because I've been in these rooms, I've run teams, I know how the onstage selling works. I don't think all of it's bad, and I'm not here to tar it all with the same brush, but like when it's a heavy focus on mindset and a heavy focus on trauma release and all this kind of stuff that is designed to replace the actual work that it takes to overcome significant and actual mental health challenges is, is just— I think it's such a load of bullshit that it needs to be talked about. So I'm going to break down how these rooms actually run. When you come in, like, there, there is no screening, okay? There's nobody sitting there at the door asking who has a psychiatric history or what medications people are on or who's who's 6 weeks out from having a divorce, or who just got divorced, or who buried a parent last month, or a child last month. And it's just 200 people paid and 200 people get in. There's no containment to this issue. In a sort of more clinical setting or more professional setting, there is a— there is a plan to get the person out, and that plan may take 2 days, 2 weeks, 2 months, 2 years, 2 decades, right? And I'm not saying that all therapy is perfect. However, like, it is a hell of a lot of a better idea than going to some fucking sales rep who now calls himself a mindset coach and says that you need trauma place, because that is just a complete load of fucking bullshit. If anything, it's entire— it's actually very detrimental to you, the person who is believing in their malarkey, and I'll go into that in a minute. But there has to be a plan to get somebody out. These events, there's no follow-up, there's no— there's no nothing, unless obviously you buy the $25K upgraded coaching package, and then you'll get everything that you need outside of that transformative weekend, right? If a therapist re-traumatizes you, there's recourse, there's a board, there's licensing, there's a chance they don't do that again. Like, how many times have you seen these fucking bullshit people online talking about and seeing people break down and cry and fucking punch into a pillow like a bunch of fucking mincy little morons. And it's like, what the fuck are you doing, dude? Like, if you have that many issues that you need to fucking scream into a pillow with a bunch of other fucking men, like, maybe you should go and actually address these issues head on and talk to someone about it, not do fucking breathwork. And it's not even your fault because you're looking for a solution, but you're listening to these morons on Instagram telling you that breathwork is the key to you unlocking your fucking income potential. And it's a load of bullshit. It's the key to them unlocking their income potential through you paying them money to do useless fucking services. Like, this industry has gotten to the point where people with a straight fucking face, right? Like, and they actually teach how to fucking show your butthole to the sun in the morning and that that is what's going to give you the fucking power of the vitamin D. And then like, that's what's going to give you the mindset to have the best possible day. You need to go outside, you need to put your feet on the ground and look into the fucking sun because this is what's going to give you the power. It is such a load of bullshit. Go have your cat shit coffee enemas, right? But like, if you think that hyperventilating until the point where like you have pins and needles and then you, you have an experience that, that you like are doing anything but attributing it to God, like, because it couldn't be that, it must be the universe or some bullshit, right? Hopping into an ice bath, whatever it may be. Like, if you need that to work hard, then like, I just dare say you either don't like what you're doing, you don't give a fuck about it, and go find something that you do, but don't believe the bullshit that these things are going to make things better. I used to be a special forces this guy. And it's so funny because the mindset people down in the comments like, that's because you have a good mindset. Like, no, retard, it's because I don't have the luxury of being a pussy. That is just not a luxury that I was given, unfortunately. Like, I wasn't able to go like, I cannot make sales today or make money today if I don't sun my butthole, have a cold plunge, and fucking journal. Like, I didn't— I had fuck kids to feed and I was poor. So like, I had to fucking work really hard to get what I got. And then like, if I didn't work, I was fucked. So like, I can't go like, I don't feel well today. Like, when I was kicking doors in Afghanistan, I wasn't like, hey lads, I'm sitting this one out, my chakras are out of alignment. They would have been like, shut up, you fucking retard. Get out there. I'd be like, okay, like that. Like there are guys right now on oil rigs or in the North Sea working 12-hour shifts and whether that is literally trying to kill you, it would be unthinkable for them to go like, I just can't do this today. I haven't fucking journaled. What the fuck is wrong with you? The ability to buy into this bullshit is a luxury good. And the irony is people do it so they can have more luxury goods. And the people that are selling this are fucking grifters. I'm sure that they believe it, but like, it's not how they made their money. You know what I mean? This is performative malarkey. The reason why this stuff sells, and it's got nothing to do with like the cat shit coffee or the ice plunge or whatever, it's because mindset as a product cannot fail. If you go to your mindset coach and be like, this hasn't worked, they go, it's because you have a bad mindset. It's because you haven't been listening. It's because like you're not coming at this from the right angle. And it's the fucking cleanest get out of jail free card. Like to be a shitty fucking coach, right? Like I'm a good sales coach. Like, you know, you can argue whether people better— I don't really care, but I'm good at coaching people because I've actually done it. If you buy a program, you should get results. Now, if you didn't do it, that's just on you. You just didn't do it. Like, just fucking own it, mate. Yeah, bought a gym membership, didn't go. Fucking sweet, dude. It's just because in the list of priorities and things in your life, it wasn't at the top. Fair enough. And when it becomes at the top, you'll do it, right? If you wanted to get to the top, just sit down and really think about it. Reprioritize your order and then put yourself into a habit where you just force yourself to do it for a week and then it'll become a habit. It becomes pretty easy. Motivation is always fleeting, which is why this stuff is bullshit. Like, discipline at the end of the day is just what it takes. Insert mindset guy in the comments, but that's because you have a good mindset. No, it's not. It's just because like I am not a pussy and so I don't have the luxury of being one because I need to provide for my family. And so I can't go, ah, I have the vapors today. This is the ultimate grift. Like, you have to understand that this is the ultimate grift. There is no outcome that you can produce that damages the product. Failure isn't even against it. Failure is evidence for it. So it's like, if you failed, you need more. It's not that the coaching is shitty, it's that you need more. You need more and more and more. So buy the $25K, buy the $250K, whatever. It is the ultimate get-out-of-jail-free absolute fucking grift. Because if they sold you a script and like how to execute it and you failed, that you could come back and say, hey Matt, I run your script 100 times, it doesn't work, like it just didn't work, then my product would be fallible, right? You know what I mean? But like, if it's like, oh, your mindset, it's just like, oh, this is fucking retarded. If you genuinely have trauma, I mean real trauma, which like I'm someone who has, like I used to kill people professionally, my 20s was spent doing that. And when I got older, I realized that we were the bad guys. And so like, I'm like, oh, there's some reconciliation that has to happen there, you know what I mean? And, and so it's like, I went to a fucking licensed clinician and talked about it and got help and like got strategies in order to fucking make the angry hate me go away. And I found Jesus, which has been a tremendous level of benefit, uh, into transforming my life, my personal life, my professional life, and how I have an outlook. Because like, you know, it's a better way of being. And if you haven't, then I highly recommend go read the Gospel of Mark, look up Wes Huff, stuff like that. Helped me out tremendously. But what I really want you to stay away from is from people who are selling you a grift because they have a hyperbaric chamber. They said that they made a ton of money. How much money someone made is not a barometer of how good of a person they are or how trauma-free they are. A lot of the most wealthiest people are absolutely fucked up in the head. There is no correlation between like free of trauma or like all that stuff and overcame and, and, and, and success. Like it's just not how it works. Like you have to be a little bit fucked up in order to be really successful a lot of the time. And then you just figure out how to like work with who you are and hopefully you get help and yada yada yada. But like, I just want you to be aware that these people are selling you not because they care about you, because they want your money. I'm super upfront about stuff. I have Dialer. I do sales training. I do sales training because it's easy money and I'm good at it and I can do it for cheap and provide a lot of value. It's not because I'm out here to try and fucking help the world. Like, that's not what this is. If you want to go down and have a look at school, it's great. I'm like one of the biggest schools on school and I have Dialer, which is crushing it. And I hope to then sell that one day. And be able to go and do more cool things, right? But like, I want you to be aware of people's underlying motivations of why they're doing things. And I want you to know that like, if you, if they're putting in things where you require things to be successful, like you require to have this, this, and this in place to where you'll do the work to be successful, you are going down the wrong path. Go out there, do some work, and, uh, like, subscribe.
