Matt Ryder, a former special-forces operator, argues that salespeople who rely on motivational rituals before calls are weak. He never needed chakras or cold plunges before combat, and sales involves no physical danger, so the elaborate routines are excuses to avoid doing the work.

If you need to be motivated to hop onto a sales call, then you're a heinous pussy. I used to kill people professionally for a living. I was a special forces operator and I didn't have to like have my chakras aligned, go and do a fucking cold plunge and like show my asshole to the sun in order to get revved up to go and kick doors in and fucking spread freedom whether people wanted it or not. But for some reason, a lot of you fucking sales reps seem to have this like routine and you have to fucking pump yourself up and go, ugh. Like that is just heinous pussydom of the highest order. Like I understand that like it can be a boys' trip and it can be fun to be in a big sales team, but you are doing nothing difficult whatsoever. There is nothing hard about a sales job physically. There is a skill set that can take a long time to develop well, but there is absolutely nothing difficult about the job whatsoever. And if you disagree, you are fucking weak. It is absolutely ridiculous. You are not a fucking bricklayer that is working hard all day. You sit in a call center or in an office in air conditioning selling people things and you think that you need to have some sort of like magic butthole energy from the sun in order to do so. Like, it's absolutely fucking absurd.
