A golfer explains why your handicap is like your sales close rate: both measure your best performance, not your average. If you're closing deals, you're playing your game.
When I was doing golf lessons, right. This is a while ago when I had time to play golf. He said, your handicap is a reflection of you on a good day. Yeah. And I was like, oh, man, that's. That's a different way of looking at it. I thought that's what you should shoot all the time. But it's a reflection of you. On a good day, you might have a great day and you might have a bad day and you'll have a good day. So it's like you probably most of the time shoot a little bit worse than your handicap. That helped me out a lot. When I was looking at sales, I was like, well, if my close rate is 30, that's a reflection of me on a good day. So, like, if I hit 40, I'm like, ecstatic. But if I hit 25, I'm like, well, it's not far off.
