Matt Ryder explains why entrepreneurs and CEOs are different animals. Entrepreneurs build things; CEOs manage the weight of decisions that affect hundreds of people's paychecks. The transition breaks most founders.
So there's a big difference between an entrepreneur and what is an actual CEO. Entrepreneurs will always try and push it, will always try and go, you know, go big or go home, which is great until you have a payroll of 170 people. And those decisions that you make affect people's lives greatly. I think that that's why entrepreneurs really struggle to make that transition, or shouldn't even try to make the transition to CEO, because, like, the two things are at times fundamentally opposed. But really it's about, like, taking, like, what is the entrepreneurial spirit, what is the plan, and then bringing that down to really concrete day to day things and not getting distracted by shiny butterflies or by the woman in the red dress.
