Nagina Abdullah talks about getting back in shape after struggling with weight and depression. At 59, she credits regular exercise and healthy eating with rebuilding her confidence and transforming how she feels about herself.
I felt old and frumpy and just tired, and I. I just wasn't confident. And, you know, when you're overweight and not looking your best, it just makes you depressed. And that's how I felt. So I didn't want to go see my friends, go to the gym. It's like, oh, I gotta get back in shape before I can even go to the gym, which is crazy. Now I'm working out every day and my clothes fit so much better. Like, they just lay flat, they're loose. I just feel more graceful and flowy in them. I'm surprised, I guess, because I'm eating, I'm eating a lot. I'm not starving myself at all. I'm eating a lot of good food. I'm small, I'm a petite, so £10, might as well be £40 pounds, you know, so it's been hard to get off just a little bit of weight, but now I think I've lost six pounds. And it just makes such a difference. And, and working out, so I feel so much better. And, yeah, I got a new bathing suit for the fourth of July. And going out on the beach, I felt more confident. Like before, I would, like, keep my cover up on until I sat on the chair, you know, and slowly take it off so no one would, like, see me standing up. But now I just take it off and I can walk around and I feel better.
