This is a YouTube video titled "The #1 Reason Women over 50 Aren't Losing Belly Fat (you're likely doing this)" created in October 2024. The content is a detailed monologue by a single speaker addressing women over 50 about common misconceptions around weight loss, emphasizing the importance of eating more of the right foods to boost metabolism rather than eating less. The speaker provides nutritional advice, explains hormonal changes affecting fat storage, and discusses strategies to maintain muscle and energy levels for healthy weight loss in midlife. The video aims to educate and motivate its audience with practical dietary guidance and debunk myths about intermittent fasting and calorie restriction.
Today I'm going to share with you the number one reason that women over 50 aren't losing belly fat. And it's not because they're eating too much, and it's not because they're not exercising enough. The number one reason women over age 50 aren't losing their belly fat is because they're under eating. They're eating too little. And this goes against every single thing we've learned where we've always been taught to eat less and exercise more. But here's what's happening. After the age of 50, so many women are under eating and as a result, their bodies don't have the nutrients to build build muscle. So as a result, their body's metabolism has slowed. And because their body's metabolism has slowed, weight has crept up over the years. Now, if you're over 50 and you're finding that it's hard for you to lose weight, you may have seen that you may have gained one to two pounds a year, maybe for the last two, three years, or possibly more than that every year. This isn't because you're doing anything wrong. This is because you are listening to advice that's outdated for you. And things change after the age of 50 because our hormones are in massive decline. And whatever food we're giving our body, it's not as efficiently used as it was before. So that's why if you're eating less calories, your body is crying out for more nutrients, it's crying out for more building blocks so that you can maintain your muscle, so that you can still develop so many of your hormones that your body needs and so that you can continue to live in a healthy, high energy way. I have coached over 1,500 women that are over the age of 50. And this is the number one reason that they're not losing weight. I start looking exactly at what they're eating. It's very easy to see that women who are undereating are staying stuck and they're so surprised that they need to eat more just because it goes against everything we've learned mentally. But once they start adding in the right foods that I'm going to share with you today, they are so incredibly excited as they step on the scale and their fat has just melted away. They notice that their muscle mass is naturally get increasing in a nice way so that they're looking more toned. So they're building their muscle, but they're losing body fat, which is the exact right direction we want to go in in midlife so that we can stay Strong and healthy. So here's the thing. It is an absolute myth and a lie that we need to under eat in order to lose weight. Here's what you do need to eat less of. You do need to e less processed foods. You do need to eat less sugar. You do need to eat less foods that are just high calorie and zero or low nutrients. And the best way to do this isn't by telling yourself that you are going to eat less sugar, because that actually works in reverse. There's been studies that have shown that when we are forbidding ourselves from foods, we actually want to eat those foods more. So it's not a great strategy or a positive strategy to forbid yourself from eating chocolate or sugar or ice cream or dessert because you're just going to want to eat it more. The best way to get over these cravings of the foods that you want to eat less is to add more of the foods that are boosting our metabolism. Now, number one, the food that is so important that your body is crying out for when you have sugar cravings is protein. And I want you to add at least 30 grams of protein starting with your breakfast. 30 grams at lunch, 30 grams at dinner, and even try to get in 10 to 20 grams more during a snack or increase your portions at each of your meals so that you get that extra 10 or 20 grams as well. I want you to go over 100 grams a day and you're going to find that this is going to start getting your metabolism revved up. You're going to start feeling more energy. You're going to start noticing that you don't have cravings for those foods that it is important to eat less of because you're eating more of the macronutrient that is increasing your metabolism. You're naturally going to eat less of the foods that are actually causing you to stay stuck. But because you're giving yourself this food that your body is crying out for, you're gonna start losing weight. Now, you may be wondering, why is this weight accumulating on my belly? Why is this happening so suddenly? Am I doing something wrong? Should I be eating less of something else? Should I be exercising more? No, sweetheart, that's not what it is. You're not doing anything wrong in terms of eating too much or exercising too little. That is not what the equation is here. What's happening is that your hormones are shifting. They're in decline because estrogen has decre actually causes a shift of where fat is stored instead of it being stored on our hips and our butt as much, it's being now stored in our belly. And so what's really important more than ever now is for you to understand how your blood sugar works. Because when your blood sugar goes up and then it goes down, what happens when it go is going down is that your sugar is being drawn out of your blood and stored in your fat cells, and most of that is in your belly fat. So if you can find a way to keep your blood sugar stable, then your sugar is not being stored as fat. If you're keeping your sugar low throughout the day. And this doesn't come from just eating less sweets, because there's sugar in many foods that seem healthy, but when they break down, they actually create that blood sugar spike and you get that belly fat storage. So here is a framework that shows you how to eat more more of the right foods that are actually going to increase your metabolism instead of you eating less overall and actually skipping over the foods that you do need and then having uncontrollable cravings because your body is crying out for the nutrients. So what you're going to see here is that at every single meal, you're having protein at 40 to 50% of your plate. You're also having tasty veggies at 40 to 50% of your Plate. You're also having healthy carbs, at least at lunch, and you can also have them at dinner. And you're also having healthy fats at breakfast and dinner, and you can also have it at a snack. Now, by eating this level of foods and making sure you're not skipping meals, you are going to start increasing your metabolism and you're going to find that your scale starts dropping, but that you feel more energy, you feel more strength, you're going to start changing your body composition so you become leaner yet stronger. Now, often I see women skipping breakfast or skipping dinner or sometimes having one meal a day, or often intermittent fasting and then not eating enough in their in their eating window. So intermittent fasting actually can hurt you because if you are not eating enough in that eating window, you're just gonna stay stuck. So here's the myth about intermittent fasting. If you've tried it and it hasn't worked for you, well, that's because you're under eating within your eating window. Even if you are intermittent fasting, you have to eat enough of the right foods to keep your body burning fat, to keep your body doing more than surviving but thriving. And so if you actually limit the hours of a day that you're eating because you think that that will help you eat less. Well, you, you're going too low and it's actually going to work against you. So intermittent fasting is helpful for women that are eating too much and they really need a barrier onto their day. But if that's not you and you think that you may be eating too little, the intermittent fasting is not going to help you anymore. It's actually going to just prolong you staying stuck. The foods that I'm sharing with you are very filling and satisfying. They keep you satiated for hours. And so you're not going to feel that hunger. You're just going to know that you're eating the right foods. So here's what I want you to take away Eating more of the right foods is going to boost your metabolism. Eating less foods in general is going to create more sugar cravings. It's going to keep you stuck or gaining weight. Now you have likely seen this for yourself because if you're under eating right now and you're wondering why you're not losing weight, it's because your metabolism has slowed. And the number one way for you to start losing weight over the age of 50 is to increase your metabolism. And that starts with eating more of the right foods. Now I want you to check out this recent video that I did where I talk about the easy framework to burn fat after 50 and I talk in detail about all the food groups that are important for you to have and exactly how much.
