Carlos coaches construction contractors on shifting from doing the work to running the business. He breaks down how to build processes, delegate without losing quality, and scale by stepping into a CEO role instead of staying stuck in daily tasks.
You're coaching other construction contractors and you're teaching them. What's the number one thing that you want to share with contractors to help them be more successful tactically?
Well, number one is that a lot of times when we're doing your business.
You'Re putting.
Too much time in the business and not enough time on the business. And what I mean by that is that as a business owner, yes, you might have to wear all the hats. Salesperson, project manager, marketing, booking. But you also have to wear that most important hat. That's being a CEO and that's being able to basically build a business that's going to work for you so that you could build your teams, you could work on your process, your systems, so that you could scale out of the business little by little, transition, so you.
Buy back your time and so you can focus on the highest leverage activities. And what would you say to somebody that's like, well, Carlos, I would love to do that, but none of these guys can do it as good as me.
And you're absolutely right. No one's going to do it as good as you because that's your mindset, right? And this is what keeps you small, your mindset. You have to start by here, get around the right people, educate about, yes, nobody's going to do as good as you. You need to learn how to duplicate yourself. And by creating a process, systems, onboarding, training, finding good people, and then putting that time on your people, they'll eventually do better than you.
