This YouTube monologue by Nate Tilley explains a practical tactic to acquire initial clients: offer to run Facebook lead-generation ads and manage leads for free (client covers ad spend) to produce measurable results, obtain case studies/reviews (sometimes video), and use referrals to secure the first paid client and scale in that niche.

What I'm running that's worked really well for me. Let's just look at the last month. I'm running a couple different things. One of them is right here. The best way to start is to figure out a service delivery mechanism that's going to be really successful for a client and do it yourself and just have them cover the ad spend and invest 1000 or 1500 dollars in the Facebook ads. And you generate the leads and you work the leads and you get them results and then you turn them into a client or just get a case study from them where they can refer you and give you a review. Sometime they'll do like a video review if you do it for free for them. And then that works really well for getting referral clients. And nobody's going to say no to a free case study or like a free trial. So if you do that for like somebody you know, you're like, hey man, I just learned how to run Facebook lead generation ads. I'll generate leads for you, I'll generate appointments for you. And if you put that out there then, and they trust you, then you can set the whole system up for them, generate them leads, get a review from them, get a referral, build a case study, and then use that case study to get your first paid client and start scaling in that one niche, wherever you get the results.
