How Tinder Can Make You a Million Dollar Copywriter

Sabri Suby uses Tinder profiles to teach copywriting principles that he says generated $7.8 billion in sales. A Tinder bio needs the same elements as a high-converting landing page: a pattern-interrupt opener, a disqualifier, a humble-brag, and a call-to-action. He walks through rewrites and shows how the framework works for ads and funnels.

This is a Tinder profile, and today I'm going to use it to teach you more about writing copy than you've learned in your favorite guru's course or mastermind. And to prove it, I've actually signed up for a Tinder account. Just to show you how I would.
Definitely swipe yes on him.
Later on, I'm going to give you my cheat sheet of the nine questions that your sales copy must answer. Whether it's Tinder or it's hinge or it's LinkedIn, most people just have no idea how to actually use them. So let's take a look. I had one of my team members set up a Tinder account. It looks alright. It looks like it's gonna do the job. Let's make this thing even better by writing it a killer profile. I'm about to drop some copywriting rizz with my $7.8 billion copywriting formula. New Eve. Your copy must be new, unique, exciting, easy, predictable, and huge. And it must be something that nobody has ever seen or heard about before. Instead, what most people are doing is they're just writing boring things that everybody's already seen a thousand times before. There's a region in the brain called the ventral tegmental area. This is basically the major novelty center in the brain that kind of reacts to new and novel stimuli. Dopamine pathways are activated the moment that we are exposed to new things. This is what the chemical reaction in the brain actually looks like. When we see something new, we see it as a potential for rewarding us in some way. This potential is for newness. That's the thing that motivates us to explore our environment for those rewards. And it's this new and novel things that really activate the midbrain and then flushes your brain with dopamine. Tinder is the number one dating app in the world, with over 1.6 billion swipes happening on the platform daily. And a recent report shows men using the app have a 0.5% chance of matching. The report also showed that the profiles that had the highest likes were ones that included personal statements. A Tinder profile is simply just a landing page. Before I show you how to make ours amazing, let's take a look at some crappy Tinder landing pages. I'm obviously going to blow these people's faces. Go by Tyler, 24. Indie Living Reds Bengals Jim Is Life My Dog Rudy Netflix Junkie Draft Beer I more than likely cook better than the whole bunch of just generic crap.
Literally nothing about him from his profile. There's selfies and pictures of him drinking with his friends.
This is what everybody says on the platform. This doesn't give you any sense of this person's personality. All right, so let's look at this one from Dan says, founder at Pommy Dartmouth College. Reading, writing, running all parts of my day. What's yours like? I will give this guy credit and say that, like, the image is pretty good. There's some movement in there. But in terms of the profile, could it be any more generic? The stats show it all. 0.5% chance of matching. That's no surprise when you're using generic profile messaging like this.
So it's just basic. It's not enough for me to be enticed.
You've gotta bring some fuego. Let's look at this last one from Rajesh. This is probably the worst one yet. Hey there. I go to high school. What's your funniest story from college?
This is. No, this is a lot of. No, we need more of you. More personality.
So let's look at applying my magic formula to a Tinder profile. This is the profile that we've created. And you'll notice here first is what we call a pattern interrupt. They're in a pattern. Swiping away, swiping left, swiping left. Thing that we want to do is just interrupt that pattern by using an opening statement like the following. Married to a hot Latina, two kids, one French bulldog named Mustard. Just looking for some side action. When they read that, they're gonna immediately be like, what the fuck is this person talking about? Like, are they actually being serious? Just kidding. I'm single, no kids, but the dog is real. And yes, in case you're wondering, his real name is Mustard. Think about that from a user perspective. You're on the app, you're reading this. Oh, I'm Craig. I'm this dude. I like Pizz. Then you see one that says, married to a hot Latina with two kids. Immediately, anything that's gonna break your pattern and it's gonna stop them and demand their attention.
Say something silly or funny. Something funny that shows something about their personality.
Whether you're writing a Facebook ad or you're writing a Tinder profile, that person is just going through the humdrum of their everyday life. The next part of the profile is what we call the disqualifier. Knowing that men on average have a 0.55% of matching on the app, most people that are on there are going to be, like, desperate, thirsty water buffaloes. We need to Disqualify and what we call dog whistle copy have a specific whistle that's going to apply to a certain person. That shows we've got options. We're not just looking to match with everybody. If you sing early 2000s R&B in the shower and love spontaneous adventures, then shoot me a message.
I like this guy's profile and the.
Reason that this is so, so great is it shows personality. You're willing to play the fringes. The next part is what we call humble bragging, not to be mistaken with how most people spam this on their Tinder profiles. They just list all their positive attributes, all very surface level. We want to make it a little bit more humble and kind of do it from our heels. Sold my last two companies but still have a chip on my shoulder plotting and scheming my next move. So doesn't try to pretend like, hey, you've just got everything together. But it's also show something that would be very desirable, like that you've sold your last two companies. That shows that one, you're an entrepreneur. You have things going for you in your personal life. But then by saying something like, I'm still got a chip on my shoulder, I'm still trying to figure my shit out. You're not afraid to be vulnerable.
Something that tells a little bit about what you're looking for and then something that just says something about like you as a person.
And lastly, like any good landing page, we need a good call to action. If you believe everything in life is better with hot sauce and you're up for an adventure, then shoot me a message. I'm super selective, so don't feel bad if I don't reply. I know you do the same thing all the time.
I would definitely swipe yes on him and honestly, I just might.
And it also shows that you understand them. Once you've actually gotten the first conversion, you've gotten the first goal to match with somebody. The next part in the funnel is the opening message. What would be an impossible to not respond opening message that you could send somebody. First line, you've got cute nipples. Oh my God. No, no. God, please no. Lol. Stupid autocorrect. I meant dimples. I'm gonna jump out my window.
That was really funny. Oh my God, that was good.
Then we hit them with the follow up. Adding a bit of comedy, adding in some gifts. This is going to be impossible not to get a response. We're gonna have to let it run for a bit and then come back to it later. So I Can show you the results firsthand. Alrighty. So you might be thinking like, okay, this is all cool stuff like this, A Tinder profile, like, yeah, this is funny. But how do I actually apply it to my ads and my funnels? And how do I use this concept of New Eve to just dramatically increase my conversion rates? Well, I'm going to show you a couple of examples now to tie this all together. Here's one example. This is a company called the Last Crumb. Now, they started in 2020 and they did over eight figures in their first year. And they did that all by launching a cookie box through drops. That's a hundred and forty dollars for a box of cookies.
I know that these carry a little bit of a heftier price, but they are some really darn good cookies.
Do you fucking see this? This is beautiful. I have quite literally always wanted to try these. The head baker was on a mission to create cookies worthy of a Michelin star. Crafted over a three, three day process, these cookies are so damn good, your grandmother will disown you. Think about that from a copywriting perspective. How new and novel and interesting that is. The next one is a company called High Smile, which offers teeth whitening at home solutions. These guys do over $100 million in revenue per year. Let's take a look at one of their ads and see how it is New Eve. This is going viral on TikTok. First of all, they open up with an incredible, incredible pattern interrupt getting sprayed by this high pressure water gun. There is like this purple bottle and it's like leaking out the side. And then it says, meet the V34 color corrector. What is that? I've never heard about it. It's new, it's novel. They've got Kim Kardashian in there. We've gotten how it's unique. Looks like it's going viral. Color corrects your teeth in two minutes, making it easy again. It's just further answering objections, validating that this is actually something that is human, Huge and predictable. What? This is a game changer, ticking all of the boxes of exactly what you want your ad to do. It disrupts the frame. It has a pattern interrupt in there. It is something that is new. It is something that is unique. Here's another ad. This is from a company called Midday Squares. They are an eight figure brand and they make over 90,000 chocolate bars per day. So let me roll this ad for you.
Now, why did it take Hershey seven.
Decades to add a chocolate bar to the front of their packaging?
Because Studies show it only takes one second.
This ad is definitely little bit different. They're not coming out and saying, hey, it's like this double rich cacao. They're actually using story to sell. So they open up by really interrupting the pattern by asking a question. I don't want to keep scrolling. I actually want to find out the answer. This is exciting. It's like there's a story, there is a narrative. This is one of their longest standing ads in their ads library. They've been running this thing for months. So you know, it is converting. But Sabri, what happens is I have nothing that is new or novel or, or exciting things that you can talk about where the product is made, how it's made, what are the ingredients, how are those ingredients processed? Look for anything that might seem old and boring to you, but you can educate your prospect around that process. Give them some piece of information that is new to them. And as promised, here is a link to the nine questions that each piece of sales copy that you write must answer. Download that puppy to dramatically improve your conversion rates. When you actually understand what makes somebody click, what makes them read, then you can really use copywriting to sell anything to anyone on any media. So after a week, this is what our tinder funnel has done.
He's got a dog, he's by the beach. He likes the outdoors. Got a nice smile.
I'll see you in the next video.
