This is a short excerpt from a YouTube video titled "How To Choose A Role Model & Mentor (Not What You'd Expect)" (uploaded May 25, 2020). In this segment Sabri Suby answers an interviewer about whether he used formal mentorships or organizations to learn to be a CEO. Suby says he largely "figured it out" himself, prefers learning from books and historical figures (he names Marcus Aurelius and Benjamin Franklin) rather than contemporary single-chapter mentors or organizations, and emphasizes studying whole lives. The clip ends with a standard YouTube outro asking viewers to like, subscribe, and leave comments.

Chapters
Yeah, absolutely. Agreed. Did you have any. Any mentors or did you join any organizations that. That really essentially taught you how to be a CEO at that point? Like, let's say EO Entrepreneurs Organization or something along those lines? Or did you just kind of figure it out?
Yeah, look, I just figured it out. I've had, like, you know, and a lot of, like, you know, friends of mine that are entrepreneurs and stuff that they are, like, all a part of eo. I've spoken at a few EO events, but, like, I think for. For me, I've always looked to, you know, my mentorships from books, really. I tend to study people that are not alive. I like to see people. I like to see the full spectrum. I don't like to see just one chapter of somebody's life. So, like, you know, I study people like Marcus Aurelius and read like, his meditations and like, someone that's like the greatest Roman emperor of all time, arguably, and they're their thoughts in leading, like, that empire or Benjamin Franklin or whoever it might be. But I look at, like, people that have lived a rich life, and it's not just like one, one trick pony, some person that knows how to build a funnel. I really dig into the weeds of who that person is before I open up my mind to any of their ideas. Hey, guys, if you enjoyed this video, make sure that you click the like button and subscribe.
