How To Survive Isolation (Working From Home)

Sabri Suby shares how to handle isolation while working from home: keep a fixed daily routine with set wake times and meals, exercise regularly, separate work from leisure spaces, and use spare time for learning through reading or courses like MasterClass.

You know, I understand that it's not a fortunate situation to be after working in isolation and, you know, you might have flatmates there that aren't the best to be working around. You might have no flatmates and you might be completely by yourself. And it can get dark and it can get in a place where you feel lonely and it's like the lines blur from working hours to recreational hours. And I think, like, you know, I'll give you some of the tips that I'm doing that have helped throughout this period. It's only when you're not around something or you don't have it anymore do you truly value it. And I think that, you know, when, when you're around your team, you're. You don't have that energy. And from speaking with lots of people in the company over the last two weeks, like, that's a reoccurring theme that they keep on talking about. Like, yeah, it was cool. It was kind of novel for the first week. And now I miss being around everyone. But while we are in Isol, what are some of those things that you can do to remain positive and still get a lot of output and still have like a really, like, I guess, positive, well being overall? So I think that it's really important that when those lines start to get blurred is make sure that they are more distinct. And having a routine. So having a routine is definitely something that's incredibly important because when you don't have to wake up at a certain time or you don't have to go to bed at a certain time and you can kind of wake up and then do your work and then watch Netflix, it can become like this big mush. Right. And you need to make it very, very clearly defined. So for me, what I've been doing is I've still been waking up early in the morning and going for a run every morning. Right. Just to have some of those key pillars that you do in your day that give you structure and exercise is a fantastic one. So I'm going for a run early morning. I'm having my coffee at the same time. I'm getting into work, I'm having my lunch at the same time as I usually do, and then I'm finishing work and I'm trying to make sure that I still have, you know, I've got my exercise in the morning and I've got putting my girls to bed at night in the evening. Right. And they're the kind of two pillars that keep my structure. Yes, I'm working probably a little Bit more than I normally would now that I'm at home. But I think it's really important to stay active, stay positive. Don't be in a situation where you roll out of bed onto your laptop, work for seven to eight hours and then roll over onto the couch and binge, watch Netflix or YouTube and then go to bed and then repe. That is a recipe for disaster, right? You need to get out there, you need to get the blood flowing, you need to shake up the current state that you've got. Get out of your house while you can. We don't know how long we're going to be allowed to go outside and exercise. So right now make the most of it. Go out there, go for a walk, go for a run, and even on your lunch break, make sure that you're not eating in front of your computer. Make sure that you're taking the time and maybe going for a walk around the block, going, getting some fresh air, going to get some sunshine on your skin. But it's really important to have some kind of rituals that you do every day and to have a clearly defined structure. Otherwise, you know, that novelty of what you felt in the first week, you know, you're going to start to get very unproductive and your whole well being will suffer as a result of that because everything has just become a big blur and you're just kind of working and watching Netflix and watching YouTube and there's no clearly defined structure. So that's what I've been doing to really help myself. And you know, we're all in this situation so you got to take the most out of it. There's no point being like, all this thing sucks. Let me just freaking marathon, watch the Lion King or whatever that freakin thing is called and you know, watch Ozarks or watch Netflix or whatever it might be. Like this time is gonna pass no matter what, right? And watching like five series on Netflix, you're gonna have nothing to show for it. So you know, what I'm doing is like I'm all, I'm a voracious reader, so I'm always reading anyway. But reading, you know, I just completed Aaron Sorkin's master class course on writing. That was freaking awesome. But you want to make sure that you're sharpening the sword, so to speak, and you're still learning stuff and you're bettering yourself and you're investing it because you don't want to squander this time. Like it's a unique opportunity that we're probably never going to see again. Right? And I would rather look at the opportunities than rather just stare at the problems and stare about, like, all the difficulties of being in isolation. So I am a naturally a positive person, so I'm not going to dwell in, like, how difficult it must be for you and all of that kind of stuff. I would rather just look at the positives. And things could be a lot worse than they are right now. So in saying that books, look at interviews, you know, read biographies are fantastic, enroll in Masterclass, do something to better your situation, learn a language, look at Rosetta Stone, whatever it might be, don't stop learning and don't stop growing through this period. Because if this thing lasts for four weeks or it lasts for four months, then you're never ever going to get back that time ever again. It's impossible. Right? So you may as well make the use of. You may as well make the most use of it for the situation that we're in right now. Hey, guys, if you enjoyed this video, make sure that you click the like button and subscribe.
