Nate Tilley reports on the Labubu collectible toy craze, where blind box sales have caused store fights, rapid sell-outs, and safety concerns forcing retailers to pull them from shelves. The hype now exceeds Pop Mart's revenue, with the blind box mechanic compared to child-friendly gambling.
This is a Labubu and people are literally fighting in the streets to get one. I'm heading in store to see they have to throw hands with Leboo crazed fans. This place is packed and I can't find these Labubus anywhere. I confront a staff member and they said what? You're sold out already?
Within like an hour. People kind of lie up within the hours before we open the store.
Labubus are so popular because they're blind box strategy. Customers don't know what they're buying until they open it. It's just child friendly gambling. The Labubu hype has over double popmart's revenue and people are fighting over them.
Have it weekly and it's only they just stop sending to us.
The fights have gone so wild that in some the boo boos have been pulled from stores because they are a safety hazard. All this chaos for a $20 toy. It's not a trend, it's an addiction.
