“LIVE SALES CALL” Andy destroys cocky sales person

This YouTube video (uploaded by Nate Tilley) records Andy Elliott calling a car dealership and critiquing/coaching a salesman named Hunter on a live sales call. The transcript shows an initial inquiry about a 2023 Ford F-150 (stock number phonetically given as "Charlie Peter 8090"), with roughly 43,000 miles and a listed price of $41,995. Hunter answers tersely and hangs up; Andy calls back to coach him, teaching principles such as being relational (not transactional), "see the unseen" (surface low-mileage value), and how to present the vehicle as a near-new alternative to expensive new trucks. The video includes a short promotional aside where Andy invites viewers to train with him and ends with channel CTAs.

That I realize why this vehicle isn't selling because of you. Do you want me to replay how you can sell this truck to anybody?
No, I'm okay.
You want to keep losing deals? You're happy with that? How long you been selling cars for?
I've been in sales for 44 years.
Wow.
These aren't role plays. These are real dealers with real objections. And I'm putting their calls to the test. Watch me break down who actually knows.
How to sell and. And who's just talking not hungry to sell a car. I was calling to get some information on a vehicle I saw on the Internet or your owner of your store heard you take this call. So is that a typo on the price?
Well, tell you what, buddy.
I'm going dark mode.
Thank you for calling. We are happy and park.
All right, guys, I had to put the hoodie on. We're going dark mode on this call.
Thank you for calling. How can I help you?
Yeah, I was calling to get some information on a vehicle I saw on the Internet.
Okay. Was it a used vehicle or a new vehicle?
It's a used one.
Okay. And what was. What kind of car was it?
A20.23 Ford F150. I got the stock number if you'd like.
Right, yeah. If you want to go ahead with that, because we have a few of them.
Charlie Peter 8090.
All right, I'm looking at that one here. Give me a second so that way it can load.
Hey, I'm not going to off on the wrong foot, but he hasn't got my name yet, so hopefully he revives. A second.
I apologize. Just bear with me.
Remember, I've taught you guys.
How many questions did you have about the truck?
Yeah, I was.
Is there.
Is the miles correct on it?
Let me confirm that for you because I'm showing 43, 130 in one system. But it looks like it might be a touch higher. I can have. Let me see if it is a good enough picture here.
No, no, we're fine. If it's got 43,000, that's fine. I just want to make sure we're talking about the right truck.
Yeah, 43. It's just a touch over 43,000 miles.
Okay.
Okay, awesome. And what's your name?
My name is Hunter.
Okay, Hunter. I see it priced at 41 995. What's your best price, Hunter?
That's gonna be priced where it's at. That's six grand under retail. We've had it for little bit, so we have it priced to Move.
Okay, well, I still think it's priced too high, so I. I think I'm gonna look around. I really appreciate you.
Yeah, no problem. You have a good one, sir.
Okay. Hey, Hunter. Okay, guys, I'm calling Hunter back, but did you notice how I said I appreciate it and then he didn't even say bye and just hung up? What he's looking is for a lay down. What does that mean? Someone who's just going to call, say I'll take the vehicle and he doesn't want to do any work. We're calling his ass back. Let's get Hunter. Hunter's in big trouble with me right now. Did a horrible job.
Hey, how can I help you?
Yeah, Hunter, please.
Sure, one moment.

Let's go watch the schooling of a lifetime, one of the greatest salesman lessons I'll ever give.
Thank you for calling. How can I help you?
Yeah, is this Hunter?
Yes, this is.
Hey Hunter, this is Tom. I talked to you a minute ago about the F150.
Oh yeah, what's going on, man?
Oh, nothing. I just. At the end when I said I'm gonna look around, you just hung up really abruptly.
Oh, I was. I. I didn't hung up. The call disconnected, so I'm looking.
Okay, just cut out.
Yeah, I apologize.
It's okay.
I figured you had hung up on me, so.
Okay, nice one. Okay, Hunter, do me a. Grab a pen. Can you grab a pen and piece of paper?
Yeah, I got one right here.
Okay, number one, I'm going to tell you. And I realize why this vehicle. So what I did is that I realized why this vehicle isn't selling because of you. And I wanted to call. Yes, and I wanted to call you and tell you a couple things that you can do so you never miss a deal again. Can I help You. Are you ready? Okay. The vehicle only has 43,000 miles on it. It's 2026. It's a 2023. Okay. That means this vehicle has only been driven 12,000 miles a year. The average vehicle is drove 20 to 25,000 miles a year, which means in three years, that would be 75,000 miles if this was a normal 2023 ford f150. But this is not a normal 2023 ford F150. It only has 43,000 miles on it, which is why it's priced a little bit more than other vehicles, because it has almost half the miles on it that most vehicles have for its age. Does that make sense, Hunter? And so the question is, is that it's not about discounting the car more. It's this Ford F150s that are brand new. Are 60 to 70 thousand dollars a minimum? AM I correct? Yes or no?
I am sure. I'm not familiar with the Ford side of things.
Okay, well, you need to get familiar. This is what you do for a living. Okay? Now, I want to tell you something. If it cost me 60 to 70 to 80 grand to buy a brand new truck, if this Ford F150 is a 2023 model, is only priced at 41 grand, I'm literally saving 20 to 30 to 40 thousand dollars. Getting a vehicle that hasn't been driven that much, that's huge savings, and that's a big difference in monthly payments. Am I correct?
I'm sure.
Well, am I right or no?
Well, I'm sure you are. You have been so far.
Yeah. So what I want you to realize is why you're missing deals. Okay? I want you to write this down. See the unseen. Write this down. See the unseen. I want you to see what your clients aren't seeing, and I want you to bring it to the table, and I want you to surface it so you're like, hey, Tom, listen, let me catch you up to speed real quick. This is a 2013, it's a 2023. It's a 2027, whatever year the car is. And you need to give them reasons and excuses why they should buy that car. Does that make sense? Okay. Do you want me to replay how you can sell this truck to anybody?
No, I'm okay.
You want to keep losing deals? You're happy with that?
It doesn't sound like I'm losing one now. It doesn't sound like you were really interested in the car. It sounds like you were trying to sell me something.
And we're okay, no, I've got the recording. I got the recording of the call. And I think the owner of your car dealership wouldn't be happy if he heard you hang up in my face. Okay? So I'm going to give you an opportunity. Do you want me to teach you what you did wrong or would you like me to pass on the recording of you hanging up in your customer's face? You tell me. Pick your road, please.
You can tell me what I did wrong.
Okay, Number one, stop being transactional. Be relational. Treat people like they matter. Treat people like you want to be traded. Number two, see the unseen. Okay? This vehicle is only three years old. It has way less than average miles on it. That's probably the reason why I'm calling. Now, if the vehicle for a 2023 has less miles, it's going to be priced more than most vehicles that have higher miles. At the end of the day, what is the client looking for? Something that's cheaper, with more miles, that's going to need to be replaced faster or something that has low miles that's been better taken care of. But that'll be a brand new vehicle they get to spend pre owned money on. I mean, Hunter, listen to me, man. I'm not sitting here trying to school you right now. I'm here trying to show you how to make money, take care of yourself, earn good money and take good care of the dealership and your customers. And that's why. And that's why you're there, Am I right?
Absolutely.
Okay. Now I hope you listen to what I said today. And if you do this, you'll never miss a deal again. And stop talking about price, stop talking about equipment, start talking about what people are getting, which is the result, which is a brand new truck. Even though it's pre owned, it's new to them. These people are replacing something you didn't even ask me if I had to trade in. You didn't ask me where I was calling from today. There's so many things that you could have done to connect with me. And so I just want to make sure if that dealership hired you, they hired you to help move the needle, okay? And not to be a consumer, but to be a contributor to the company. And today, if you were to close this deal, you would have contributed to the company. But if you don't get better, you're going to be a consumer. You're one of those people that walk in the company and say, what's in it for me today? Okay, I want you to move the needle in your company. I don't want the company to be able to count on you. Can you do that for me?
Yeah, absolutely.
Have a blessed day.
