This Is Why Dealerships Are GOING BROKE

YouTube video (creator: Nate Tilley) in which Andy and Brian role-play / review a sales call for a 2024 Subaru Forester at a Honda dealership. Andy repeatedly criticizes the salesperson (Brian) as untrained—an "order taker"—and uses the call as evidence that a lack of training and accountability is causing dealerships to lose money. The video ends with a direct call-to-action: Andy asks sales managers, dealer owners, and sales reps to text him for training help.

This guy, he's so geeked out on trying to find the right information right now. He's literally not connected with me at all.
Look, computers that take him along.
This company does not train their people.
Okay, that sounds good. My name is Brian and if I can answer any of the questions, you.
Know, this is why dealerships are burning cash. Dude, this is a Honda store. Honda stores are the roughest.
This is Brian in sales. How can I help you?
Yeah, I was calling to get some information on a vehicle.
Yes, sir, I can help you with that.
Do you have the 20, 24 Subaru Forester?
I believe I do.
Let, this is an older guy. He's going to be super analytical.
And what information would you like on it?
Told you. 29, 000 miles is what I see. 29, 4 listed on price. I just want to see if it's still available. This guy's very analytical. And by the way, Subaru Forester only attracts an analytical buyer, especially at a Honda store. But this guy, he's so geeked out on trying to find the right information right now, he's literally not connected with me at all. He hasn't been trained to.
Okay, finally. There we go.
See, he's just an order taker. He's a trained order taker. A trained order taker. Welcome to McDonald's. Go take your order. What would you like? Is this much money? Oh, no, we don't want it. Okay, pull into the drive thru and we'll have the next person come through the window. This is why dealerships are burning cash. Burning cash.
Computers that take a little while.
This company does not train their people. And by the way, like, hey, by the way, where you call from today? What's your name? Oh, it's a beautiful day out there. That's awesome. Hey, why you want to see a new forester? Have you owned one before? These are really nice. Can you believe it only has 29,000 miles?
Yeah, I believe that's still here. I'm gonna walk out and look now.
He'S gonna walk out. Your name? Call me back.
I can call you right back with some photos of it. What's a good number to reach in?
I already saw the photos. I mean, you got, you know, tons of them on the Internet. That's a good thing about this, you know, Internet error. I've got as many pictures as I need to see. Do you, have you, have you seen the car personally?
I've walked around it. I haven't, I haven't, you know, started it up or drove it around, but it looked like a nice, clean vehicle.
Okay. All right. Okay. So let me do this. Let me talk to my wife, and I'll call you back.
Okay, that sounds good. My name is Brian, and if I can answer any of the questions, you know, please reach out my direct line. If you got a Pencil handy is sure. 5 503.
Garbage. Garbage. Okay, thank you.
Thank you.
A question, sir? Sir? Hey, guys, sorry to interrupt the video. If you're watching this and you're a sales manager, your general manager, your dealer owner, and you want to train your team to be killers, do me a favor. See the number on the screen? I want you to text me right now. I'd love to personally get on a call with you, by the way. If you're a sales rep and you're like, andy, man, I want to just level up my own sales, Shoot me a text as well. Guys, the numbers on the screen, I will help you. I'll personally get on a call with you. I love you guys. Let's get back to the video, and let's train our teams to be deadly. This is why people are going broke all around the world. And I'm going to tell you what no one knows so because no one holds anyone accountable, and nobody cares about numbers anymore. And in the car business, training doesn't exist, so accountability can't exist. The owners, they work their ass off normally from a detail department all the way to the top to build this dealership. They've slaved to build this. And then they think, one day, okay, I'm going to get my shot to be a real owner here. And then they go and they hire someone who they think is going to care about their store the way that they cared about it, and they don't. They just want a paycheck. And then they hire these salespeople which are answering the phone, which I'm not saying are bad people. They're untrained people, and they do all this advertising, right, to bring people in. And literally, they practice on their customers instead of practicing in their training. And they're literally bleeding cash. I mean, car dealerships could be 20xing their business right now, but they're not because their teams are untrained. Even this guy sound like a good guy. Like, he sounded like a great guy. But he doesn't know any better because his manager doesn't care. And his manager wasn't trained. He hasn't been trained, and that's why he's losing money. And I'll bet this guy goes home. I'm just willing to bet that he goes home and at the end of each month, he's not making enough money and his family's having to make sacrifices. And so this is why salespeople have to find their own training. If their company doesn't pay for it, if your company doesn't provide it, and if it's not good training that works, salespeople have to get out and pay on training their own. They have to because it's their check they're getting. And no one else cares about their money or no one else should care about their money more than they care about their money.
