We Helped Dealership Sell 23 Cars with Just $1,400 in Ads

YouTube video (May 4, 2025) where Nate Tilley explains a social-media-first advertising system for car dealerships: mix of low-key/direct-response video ads, subprime and testimonial ads, landing pages, and lead-nurture automation. He presents case-study metrics (e.g., 23 cars sold from $1,400 ad spend; $4.33 lead cost; $63 cost per car sold) and discusses integrating leads into VIN Solutions CRM plus automated text/email drips, booking calendars, and long-term reactivation sequences.

This is kind of the pathway that we've. We go with now, you know, and, and this is what we do. So these are three different screenshots, three different dealerships in July. One of them sold 23 cars, the other sold 20, and the other one sold 19. And that was just after three weeks. They launched the first week of July. So I'll show you the ads that we ran for them, how the strategy works and everything that we do. You guys know me. Here's me at Zach's, Zach's gravel lot, Fast lane autos. That's, that's when I first started selling cars, you know, hippie kid. Now. Now I'm running ads for Andy Elliott. I don't know if you guys seen that guy's stuff. Take your shirt off if you got abs guy. He's kind of something else. But yeah, we're running ads for him. We're running ads for a bunch of different dealerships. Big number one Jeep stores, you know. So it's been groups like we've been working with a lot of clients for years and it's been really cool because one of my clients told me really early on that you guys are five years ahead of the industry. And I still see that to this day. A lot of dealerships, they just haven't adapted to the system. They still spend money on stuff that isn't actually appealing to the general customer. And our system and strategy is quite different. So look at how simple this is. We work with all credit situations happy customer style. Easy ads like this are bringing in leads for $4.33. That's somebody who's going to give us their name, email, phone number when they're looking to buy, how much down payment they have and what vehicle they're interested in. We also do the direct subprime style ads. We're looking for people who want to be approved, reach out to us. Obviously you're going to get some of the bottom of the barrel doing that. This is how you can get a volume of leads. But also you can get people that have a high intent on filling out a credit app and getting financing if you can get them approved. So this is kind of a combination. And we also do these video ads. This guy's literally gone totally famous in Long Island. He said he can't even go out for a scotch with his wife anymore without somebody recognizing him from the ads. We got like 3 million views in a 25 mile radius. And it's just him and he's on his phone camera and he's Just like if you got bad credit, low credit or no credit, I'm the loner ranger. He puts on a cowboy hat. I'll be your voice to the bank. I'll help you get approved, partner. You know all this and it works for him. I mean he's got, this is one ad of 20 where he's got 587 likes, 92 comments and 70 shares. Of course, Rap City, South Dakota, we're not as populated as, you know, Long island or whatever, but we've still got enough population where these people comment and they'll, they'll come back and comment. Dave is the man. He got me approved, you know, and they walk in every day, he's on video on my website talking about how people walk in every day to the dealership and they're like, yo, this is the guy from the video. And they act like they already knew him. So videos, these are unmatched. We have scripts that we send you guys. Jeremy, you're a face made for camera and a personality made for social media.
So we just got a face made for radio, buddy.
Let's go. Yeah, and that too. I mean, so let's, you know, we can get you on some easy. This is social media too. You don't need to have super professional done up stuff because people are trained psychologically to just scroll past ads. Everything's got to be like a sneaky ad. And that's why our ads are so like low key and not super over the top. We do have those as well because it's part of the branding strategy. But we do a combination of things where people are just like, everybody's on their phone first thing in the morning, last thing at night, Instagram, Facebook, Tik tok, whatever their drug of choice is. And they're going to be on here, they're going to be seeing your dealership one way or another. They're going to see your inventory, they're going to see what you guys offer. They're going to see the fun stuff that we do, case studies, testimonials, reviews, all, all those things we, we focus on for you, the video strategy. If you guys will do this, I'll tell you like some of your top competition doesn't want to get on video themselves. Really that hard. And that, I'm just saying the dealership that does that wins the most in the market because that's something nobody can copy. Nobody can replicate the exact same way that you do. And you're going to attract people based on your message. I mean this is down in walk around.
Like me doing a walk around. Just a selfie walker.
Hey, morning.
All the way live from the 605. That's what you're talking about.
So I've got these scripts. It's direct response style. We've already tested it and figured out like, exactly kind of what to say and what to focus on because you don't want to do the same kind of the salesman walk around. I'm glad you mentioned that because that people. It's kind of like it's not direct enough. You want to switch the framework and with our scripts, you focus on them. So it's like, hey, if you've got bad credit, low credit or no credit, and you need to get into a new vehicle, check this out. And then you offer them and they're like, hooked already. So we really optimize for that and we train you guys and work with you to make sure it's not just a video that we can spend some money on, but a video that's actually going to connect on the other end. But yeah, you're, you're on, on point, though. That's as simple as it's going to be. And we just kind of show you what to say. We've got these scripts. We've got about 15, 20 different ones. Examples, some of the most simple, like the top Tik Tok ad of 2024 so far has been a walking around at the auction. And he's just like, hey, there's a lot of unsold SUVs at discounted rates. And I got mine at a discounted rate. You can click below to see more discounted SUVs, and then it just goes to a lead capture page. So, you know, what we do is we create those channels for you so you guys are just able to siphon leads off social media. Here's a couple other dealerships had success with that. This is a Screenshot. We spent 60k for these guys and we've tracked 350 sales. And two and a half years we've been working with them. So, yeah, I mean, he's got a million, almost 1.5 million plays on his video with 1500 appointments scheduled. Here's them on video. I won't play it right now. I went and saw them in Long island, but, you know, they're. They're super, super cool dudes. Here's kind of the combination of other ads we run for them. I want to show you guys, like, we're not as much a sniper rifle, but like maybe a print Would be if you send somebody a postcard to their house. We're more like a shotgun or a nuclear bomb blast in the market, you know, to where you're going to have a lot of different looks out there. It's like if you go fishing, you know, and you, you got one rod over here with one type of bait, and then on the other side, you put out another rod with another type of bait, you know, you're going to be attracting different kind of fish. Right. So we get you set up with hooks all over social media to just be able to bring people in. So that's kind of what we do on the front end. Is that kind of what you guys were expecting, hoping for? Do you think it looks good? What do you think so far?
Yeah, I think it's fine because we aren't, we aren't doing any of it. And we have enough data both locations to, to be able to track from here on out. You know what I mean? We. To track increases and really we're stable. I mean, we're not all up. There's no roller coaster. I mean, we're pretty steady. It's good as far as sales, profits, things like that. So. So I do believe it's trackable. And really the, the. Yeah. Yeah, I liked it. I like it.
Yeah, man. We. What's that?
So how much would you suggest, aside, aside from you guys, how much would you suggest spending a month on Facebook or, or, or, or on whatever. Social media?
Yeah, I mean, it really depends what your goals are. I mean, you sold 130 last month. Where do you think, where do you see yourself being able to get to realistically, with your inventory and team that you currently have? Now, is it a one or could you push 150? Is 130 going to be normal? Is a hundred normal? Like, what are you trying to do?
Well, I feel like 75.80. Yeah. Minus, minus the store. Right. So I feel like 7580 a store. When you're running five guys, right. 15 a piece, you kind of hope you're operating at least 15 car guys. So five 15 car guys, which is pipe dream for the most part, is 75 units per store per month. And I think that that's where we'd like to get to at least an immediate, immediate, attainable goal. Super sale. 75 80. Yeah. Just on average. Yeah.
Without the super Sale. Without the super Sale. What's your guys average?
Yeah, we're about, we're right about 100, about 50 a store. I think we're right at 50. I mean I can pull it. We're right at 52. 52 or something. Last time I did it average 52 units a month. This location, the other location.
Well, I'll tell you, like these guys here, this is, this is July and, and we booked 120 appointments. They sold 20 cars and that was a record month for them with us. And you know they track their attribution, direct names. Exactly. This person clicked on our lead and they came in, bought a car and we've been working with them for over two years. So they spent, to do that, they spent 20, $500 on ad spend. So 20, you know, for you guys that at let's say 100, that would put you at a 120. So what we like to do is kind of walk before we run. We like to get the ad set up. We like to start bringing leads in. We like to get your team dialed in with the, you know, the volume of lead. The calls that are coming in, you'll see this. 110 calls. We got them. 110 inbound phone calls. People seeing the ad and calling them. The phone's ringing there all the time. I wouldn't visit them. They're all busy, you know, on different calls. Leads are walking in the door asking for David. So it takes time to build up. But I'll show you. This is a dealership that we just started with. And this, this, these were the ads that they were running. And they started the ads and they got really busy. They told us, hey, we're getting the leads, everything's good. And, and then we didn't hear from them. And I was like, kind of worried. I was like I don't know what's going on. And then they, they kind of got their head above water and they're like, hey, we're buried in leads and we're, we're having appointments stacked every day. They ended up selling 23 cars from 1400 dollars in ad spend. So like you can, this is an above average performer. 23 sales in the matchback report $63 cost per car sold. So at that math, you know, I mean an extra 50 units is. You know, like 3K. Does all this eliminate our cars for sale website? No, you're still gonna have the cars for sale website for hosting your inventory and managing like your, your DNS and everything. But, but no, this is what we're going to do. This is going to really replace your whole front end ads channel so you don't have to do as much Radio or commercial or anything like that to get the word out. You can do giveaways and everything through this ads channel, but you'll still have the website. You know, we might just shift up some things on the back end. How are you guys following up with leads right now when, when somebody submits a lead on your website?
Just phone calls.
Okay, well just to answer your question, like these guys, this is above average. They spent 1400 bucks on these exact ads right here. And, and a combination like we'll do 20 to 30 variations of ads. Not just these, but ones like these. And they were able to sell 23 cars with that too. We've got these, like I told you about these landing pages. We send all the traffic here to be qualified instead of sending them right to your website where kind of get lost. They'll come in here, they'll type what type of vehicle they're looking for, how soon they're looking to buy, how much down they have, and then we'll, we'll give you guys all the software and tech for an online test drive booking calendar. Well, people can go and book themselves a time. When they do, it's going to email them, text them the address, make sure they show up. All that good stuff.
Right.
There's some sample leads, but yeah. So I was kind of like asking about your follow up, asking Mark and he said you guys are mainly doing just phone calls right now.
Yeah, so. And we have a pretty wicked ass system.
So.
So everything, we should be operating everything out of VIN Solutions and that would be trackable stuff. So I just talked to another buddy in Sioux Falls that runs a store and he, all his guys, all calls and all communications out of VIN Solutions and Vince Solutions is the best. I've been in book coverage since 25 years. Pretty tough to beat VIN Solutions as far as the CRM goes. But we're not even utilizing it to half its potential. You know what it is? So I think that would be, that would help because the leads would ultimately be pushed and generated all the way through to VIN Solutions.
Yep.
You know what I mean? So, so that would be part of your timeline to, to get there. So API club, right?
Yeah, absolutely. And so one thing that we do because we get this all the time, you know, got VIN Solutions set up, got text automation set up, whatever, my guys are working the leads. And so what we set up is a customer service system that's like a back end third. You know, it appears almost as just your customer Service center for 605 where we're going to send speed delete on every single lead that comes in a text message. And we're just going to say, hey, thanks for reaching out to 605. Somebody will be in contact soon with the phone call. That way by the time you guys get to it, five minutes later, they've already got a text and if they want, they could just text us back right there, you know, and all that.
So it's obviously AI, right? We're just operating AI.
It's not an AI actually we have that function and capability. But what we found is we, we like to control the messages. So they're prompted messages that we've set up, they're personalized. So it'll say, hey Jeremy, thanks for reaching out to 605 autoplaza. But in this way we can just have a blanket message that goes out and then when somebody responds, we're going to send that over to your sales team so they can get on that lead. We do have AI response capabilities. That's an option that we have as well. But we haven't found that to really drastically impact results. In fact, sometimes it's led leads to get swept under the rug because the AI is responding and nobody else is. So. But yeah, so we're going to set up a speed delete system for you. It's going to have seven day automated drip nurture sequences with emails and texts. And then we're going to have a 365 day reactivation sequence for any of those unsold leads and long term follow up campaigns as well as post sales stuff to get more reviews and to follow up with people telling about our referral process and everything like that. You know, you can see we're getting like 50% response rate on some of our campaigns. And you know, we've got it already programmed set up for you guys. We'll, we'll sync it all up with your messaging. And this is an example here. Like this guy, this is 12 different texts we sent this guy and then he responded and he ended up getting a wrangler delivered to him and we, we sold him. But it took like we're sending him emails, we're sending him ringless voicemail messages and he finally responded. People are just busy and the response rates on a lot of these ads will be lower than ever if you don't have a system like this. And we've already figured out how to work these people.
Definitely appreciate your time, Mr. Tilly. God bless. We'll be in touch.
You too. Thanks guys. We'll talk to you soon. See you, Mark. See you, Jace.
