A short first-person YouTube anecdote by Nate Tilley describing a tourist-trap experience in Morocco: while staying at a five-star resort he arranged a camel ride and desert meal, chose a cheaper outside taxi for a 35-minute trip, enjoyed a private-tent setting with bread, chickpeas, lamb stew and couscous, then was unexpectedly charged $1,000 for the meal — which he calls the worst meal he’s ever paid for.

I was in Morocco, we got caught in a tourist trap. We're staying in a five star resort. I said, hey, I want to go out to the desert, ride camels. And they said, oh, excellent. Would you like a taxi from the hotel or an outside taxi? What's the difference? The hotel taxi is X amount and the outside taxi is this amount. I did the calculations and it was like thousand dollars to take a fucking taxi. I was like, where is this desert that we're going to? No, it's 35 minutes away. I'll go for the outside taxi. Thank you. We arrive out into the desert, we're riding the camel. It's beautiful. We have our own private tent. There's beautiful lighting. They bring out a cloche. We have some bas, chickpeas, a lamb stew, some couscous. Stupidly, I didn't ask for the price. And then they bring me the bill and it's $1,000. That was without a doubt the worst meal in terms of what I paid and what I got.
