starting a new chapter from zero as a 23 y/o ecom chud

Nathan Miller, 23, is spending three weeks in a secluded Airbnb to reset his life and launch a supplement brand. He's working 10-12 hour days on product development and ad testing, cutting calories for a six-pack, and ditching DoorDash for meal prep. His strategy focuses on customer lifetime value and retention.

Not only did I, you know, stop running that brand— I'm sure you guys saw that video. By the way, thank you for all the sweet comments. Really means a lot to me when you guys are super nice in the comments and stuff, and it's, it's just great to hear from you guys and get that support. It's really, really important. But I have a lot of things I got to change in my life, and I've realized this over the past couple years. For past year, I've become a little complacent, and I made a YouTube video about this, and now it's time and I have an opportunity to actually change it. So I just got this Airbnb and I'm gonna be staying here for the next 3 weeks. It has everything I need. I have my setup right here, obviously I have a kitchen. I just did some grocery shopping, so I'm gonna talk to you guys about what I bought. Yeah, we got a nice little bathroom over here and then the bedroom. And then this is kind of my view. We're in the mountains right now, which is super cool. Down there is the M3. While I'm here, I basically just have one goal, and it's to reset and then build back these really good habits in my life. And so a couple of the things I'm going to be really prioritizing, obviously number one is going to be work, 100%. Gonna be pulling, you know, 10-12 hour days here comfortably. Number two is gonna be fitness. Um, I've seen how much when I'm dialed in with like working out or going on runs and stuff like that, and my physique looks better and my face looks better and I just look better in general, I've seen how much that actually affects my output in my work, um, how much it affects my mind and how, you know, resilient I am when it comes to pushing through things and to actually stay consistent. And so that's something that I'm really, really focusing on as well. Um, I've been going on runs, which I never loved. I hate running. I've never gone on runs before, but I've been doing like a few runs a week now. Obviously starting to be very consistent in the gym again as well, lifting weights. So, um, just remember, like, push-pull legs, and trying to maintain that while also being in a calorie deficit. So yeah, right now I'm trying to cut, I'm trying to get lean. If you guys know me, like, for the past year I've kind of had some, some fludge on me, some fat, right? And I'm trying to get rid of that. And, um, last summer, actually around this time, I was really shredded. I actually had like a six-pack and everything. And then I just kind of let myself go. And so it's time for me to, to get back in the swing of those things. And then obviously number 3 is going to be my health. So anything like skincare, the food I'm eating, right? Stuff like that. I just went to Whole Foods and picked up a bunch of stuff. Um, so I'll show you guys kind of what I picked up. But yeah, no DoorDash. I used to DoorDash all the time. No DoorDashing. And we're going to be so dialed in, drinking water, um, drinking coffee, right? Nothing crazy. And yeah, I'm really excited just to take this time literally in the mountains, literally like secluded almost, and just really focus on myself. Like, no one else is here besides me, so it could be me and God. And I'm gonna really have some time to focus in. Okay, so picked up a bunch of stuff from Whole Foods, so we're gonna get straight into exactly what I got. So number 1 is I got some supplements. And supplements actually are very important. And one brand that I've really wanted to try out for a long time, and I just think it makes it so easy to take, is this. And it's Embodica, a super cool brand. I think you guys should check them out. They do, I don't know, 1.5 visitors on their site per month. So I got some vitamin C. So this is for like immune and collagen, so it's kind of for my skin. I got some liquid colostrum. So that's gonna be immunity plus digestive support because my gut and my bloating is terrible. I got some running, um, some running energy gels. I've never actually tried these before, but anything to help me run, like, I'm for it. And then I got some skincare products. So I went with this brand called Acure, and I just got basically the 3 basics that you need, which if you guys don't know, um, the 3 basics of skincare is basically you want a like a cleansing serum. So that's that. You want a sunscreen SPF, and then you want a moisturizer. So that's what I got. I got these 3 right here. Got some hot sauce. Um, I love hot sauce. I love eating hot foods, and for me it makes things that are not as yummy easier to eat. So I was like, okay, I need to get some hot sauce. Got some hot sauce, obviously from Whole Foods. Chicken fried rice. I don't know, I just picked this up because I like fried rice and this is probably an easy thing to make. Um, I got some more toothpaste. I already have some, but this brand's really good. It doesn't have fluoride in it. If you guys know about fluoride, that stuff literally makes you dumb, so don't do that. And then I got a bunch of these other like creatine packets, um, from Symbiotica. How much creatine is actually in here? 5 grams. Okay, so that's not that much, but these each have 5 grams. They're easy to take, like they don't taste bad, so that's super sick. And then just some standard electrolytes. Usually I go with the Santa Cruz Medicinals, but, um, they didn't have that obviously in Whole Foods, which I don't— I feel like he should be in Whole Foods by now, um, but maybe he just does Amazon, I don't know. So that's what I got. And then I picked up a couple other things the other day, so I'll show you that right now. Okay, so yesterday I went and obviously I picked up some Mountain Water, got some butter here, kebabs, and then where the steaks at? Steaks for dinner, some eggs for breakfast. I got a couple Blooms, already drank 2 of them. Actually, my girlfriend drank one of those. And then we got some yogurt, um, some milk, more veggies. Really nothing crazy, um, just like simple meals. So like literally ground beef, yogurt, and like steak. Like that's literally what I'm gonna be eating. And then I got this. This is a sweet treat, but Ice Cream for Bears. This is really good for you. All the ingredients are like natural, so This is like, obviously it's not gonna have a crazy amount of like protein or the calories are gonna be high because it is ice cream at the end of the day, but it's a nice sweet treat that's not made with anything that's gonna really destroy me. Um, and then I think that's it I have in there. I did pick up some sourdough bread as well. So that's kind of my haul for like groceries, at least for this week. And then obviously the supplements and skincare stuff, so I'm gonna get on that, get trenching with that. When it comes to the actual brand that I'm building, right, this brand that I'm, you know, basically starting completely over for, right, that is a work in progress. Luckily, I do have a product right now, and I wanted to talk about how I even came up with the idea for the product. I can't tell you guys the product, obviously, but I'll give you a couple of tips and pointers if anyone, any one of you guys are ever going to be interested in something like this, what you should focus on. So The number one word or metric that every big brand that you've ever seen focuses on is LTV, right? So lifetime value of their customer, how much their customer is going to spend with them over the lifetime that they live. And so you look at brands like energy drinks, sodas, and stuff like that. Obviously their LTV is really high because these customers are coming back multiple, multiple times a month, right? And purchasing from them. So they don't just buy once for $30. They probably buy over their lifetime maybe even like thousands of times for like $25. And so their LTV is super high. And so that's something I've wanted to focus on and something that I was like, obviously I'm gonna do something consumable because that way I'm able to have that effect. Another thing that I really understood is that if you want a good LTV, right, it helps to have really good retention., and it helps to have really good churn. What are those things influenced by? Number 1, how connected to the product the customer actually feels. And number 2, basically how enjoyable or easy that it is to stay with the product and actually see results. And so these are a couple of things that I've noticed over the lifetime of me just running supplements. Um, and like the, the ones that are the less churn are usually the ones that, you know, either they're they need the most or the ones that they can take and it's super easy for them to stay on track. And so I created and curated a supplement in a form that hasn't really been done before that makes it super easy for people to take and it makes it super easy for people to actually stay consistent with it. And it's in a really, really cool way. And that's kind of all I can say. I feel like any— if I say anything else, it will start to give away what I'm kind of working on. But that is basically the idea. And I have a product now. I've designed it, you know, I've made the images and everything for it. And so right now I'm really working on, number one, landing a USA supplier. So I'm kind of messaging and emailing a bunch of these people, and there's gonna be some back and forth probably over the next week until I can find something. But something to note, just because you're in the USA doesn't mean the suppliers aren't going to screw you over. Especially with ingredients and stuff. So I'm making sure I'm going through everything, double-checking everything, sourcing, you know, where their suppliers are located. Are they like mixing other stuff in there? I don't know, all this different stuff I gotta check and make sure I go through that. And it's, it's a fun, but it's a, it's a grueling part of the process for sure. And then on the side as well, I'm gonna start testing some ads and trying to just simply get product market fit. So try to find the best way to market my product right now that's going to give me the most return and most momentum up front. Um, but I really just have to find one thing, and then once I find that, I will be able to replicate it over literally multiple SKUs and multiple different demographics. It's going to be super easy. Going from 0 to 1 is the hardest thing in e-com, but once you're at 1, scaling, it's pretty straightforward as, as long as you have kind of some experience, which I honestly do have. And then I also have friends who have experience as well, so I can lean on them. So that's kind of where I'm at right now with this brand. What's going on, guys? So as you guys can see here, I just bought this— like I was talking about health, right? I'm really trying to prioritize health. And a big time— in a big time, what am I saying? A big thing that you need to prioritize when you're trying to eat better and you're trying to be healthier as a man is protein. And so I saw this at Whole Foods today. I don't know if you guys can see that right here. It's $28, but it's $28 for like 4 meals. I'm basically gonna eat half of this right now though, so it's kind of more like $14. But usually you would eat them, uh, you'd eat 4 and eat them like in 4 different servings, but I'm just gonna do a big one right now because I have like barely gotten any protein in today. But as you guys can see, like, it's already seasoned. Um, you kind of have to warm it up. Usually I would want to put this in the air fryer because it's less toxic and stuff, and also just probably tastes better. Um, it's more crispy. But I don't have an air fryer right now. I'm in an Airbnb and all I have right now is a microwave. So along with your actual physical, like, diet that you eat right, your body actually has a couple of other diets. So the diet is, it's basically a word for what you intake, right, the quality of things that you intake. And so there's other things that we intake. We don't just intake with our taste bud in our digestive system. We intake with our mind, we intake with our thoughts, our smells, obviously our senses, our ears, so the things we hear, the things we see, see. So that portrays— and this is something that I've noticed, right? When I have been super, super dialed, when I have been just on top of things, I'm like, my belief is strong, things are moving, and I'm able to be super productive and perform at a high level. My diet of the things I watch and the things I listen to are also pretty dialed. And that means that everything, literally everything— and this is like, could be very overwhelming That's really good. But everything that I do without— throughout the day is like productive and building myself up. And there's actually a Bible verse about this, I believe it's Ephesians 4:29. Don't remember exactly how the exact like wordage of it, but it's basically like it says— and this is with our mouths, with our tongues— like, do not speak if, if you are not going to uplift someone else or bring them closer to Jesus. Don't say anything at all. Like, if you're saying foolishness, or you're saying, um, forgot the word they say, but like, if you're just like messing around, or like even if you're doing it and like you're just trying to be funny, like, don't even say that. And I think that talks about, and it really shows how powerful our mouths are, but also the powerfulness and like the power that the things that we watch, um, and the things that we intake have on our bodies as well, because they're all feeding into us, into our subconscious, into our mind, into our brain. And if you surround yourself with, you know, positive, like, hard-working, uplifting things, you know, it's a really, really good thing for your brain and for your body. Um, so obviously friends are a big thing in that. Um, my friends are all really, really good people and they do well with that. Number 2 would be like YouTube videos. Music I listen to. So right now I'm only listening to like house music without words, worship music, and if it's not that, it's probably something like, like some movie soundtrack or something like that, because that is very uplifting to me. And then also, I believe, um, on YouTube I've just been watching, um, you know, people ahead of me. So like Greg Lav, his videos obviously are really great, um, people whose lifestyle I really like. So like a couple of them I could think of is like Rex Chang, um, he's like a cool runner. This other guy, he only has 2 videos but his TikTok's really cool, his name is Mason DuPuy, and he's like a model, he lives in like LA, very cool, you know, hybrid athlete kind of lifestyle. I really like that stuff. And then, um, you know, in terms of e-com, like yeah, I'm willing to ingest stuff to learn, but I'm not going to go on there and watch like basically stuff that's just not gonna uplift me. So that goes with everything else. So I'm really gonna dial that in as well. And it's crazy, like, one thing I want to tell you guys, like, in this life, there is no— there's nothing— there's no middle ground, right? The devil owns the fence, so the middle ground is his. So if you guys try to— if you think something's kind of like just like in the middle, it's really not. It's probably bad for you. So that goes for food, that goes for songs you listen to, that goes for things you watch. Like, if you think like, ah, it's kind of good, kind of bad, it's probably not bad. It's either good, uplifting, or it's not. So that's something that I like to think of as well. One last little clip while I'm eating here, but I'm watching this Greg Lab video on my phone, right? And he's on this yacht, and it just reminded me of something, and I want to make sure I make this very clear to you guys. Guys, I'm taking a leap of faith right now, right? Obviously with this new brand and stuff, I do not want to make it seem like I know what I'm doing because I do not. I've done e-commerce before, I've done dropshipping before, I've done like some kind of brands before, but a completely custom product I've never done before. So like, I'm going to tell you guys what I'm doing, but I'm not saying that I'm not gonna fail along the way. And I want to make sure that's pretty clear because This is a leap of faith. This is me going to the next level and trying something new and just taking action on it. I'm gonna fail a lot, like I'm going to make so many mistakes, but like Greg just said this video, you learn in the arena. So this is where I need to be and this is how I need to do it. So I'm taking that action and I'm taking those steps. And yeah, we're gonna be just along for the ride, and as long as we stay consistent, we're gonna get there. Just saw that deer. We're going for a little walk right now. This is something that I'm going to start doing a bit more just because a big part of my health that I want to fix obviously is my bloating. I am bloated constantly. 10-minute walk after everything I do, um, or every time I eat basically. Obviously drinking water and being hydrated is a big part of that as well. I feel like I've been not the greatest with that. One of the other things that I haven't been doing recently is meditating. And I didn't realize how powerful meditating is. And I want to give you guys like a very quick, like, 30-second spiel on meditation. But basically, when you're meditating, it's— you're visualizing, you're taking time to clear your head and visualize what you want and basically how you see things unfolding. And it has a very weird way of working out because your thoughts and your brain and your prefrontal cortex or whatever it is, it doesn't understand the difference between a thought in your head and something that's happening in real life. So Once you start creating these thoughts in your head, you're able to actually create, you know, what your brain perceives is actually happening, and that forms a new identity which reinforces belief and actually makes things possible. It's pretty crazy. But yeah, I'm about to go do it for like 10 minutes or something. Um, I just listened to some music, some like soundtrack stuff, and it's kind of corny, but honestly it works pretty well. Yeah guys, so today I got a decent amount of work done. I went on a run, you know, obviously locked in on the skincare stuff that I just got, um, and then also ate pretty well, went on a walk. You know, it's Sunday, so I didn't do anything too crazy in the gym, wasn't open too late. But yeah, basically this is going to be my life for the next 3 weeks, and then after that I move into a house and it's going to be even more locked in then because I'm gonna have a real, like, structure. Like, I have a gym over there and everything, and so it'll be really, really nice. I'm really excited about this part of my my life and all the risk I'm taking, which is, it's scary, but I love it. I honestly wouldn't, I wouldn't change it for the world. So yeah, if you guys are enjoying this content, please leave a like, please leave a comment. I'd love it. Um, I'll also do some more behind the scenes of exactly what work I'm doing. Like today I did a lot of copywriting, I did a lot of funnel build out, I did a lot of different stuff like that. And although I can't show you guys the product or anything, I can show you and talk about some of the things that I'm doing, I guess. And, um, I'm excited for in the future where I'm gonna be able to actually go to the supplier and like go to these factories and stuff and like kind of like take you guys with me. I think that'll be super sick. But for now, uh, peace guys. I hope you guys enjoyed the video and leave a like if you liked it.
