trusting the process while I build a new product from scratch

Nathan Miller, 23, walks through building a custom product brand from sourcing suppliers to running early ads. He emphasizes trusting the process over quick wins, drawing on The Slight Edge and his own shift from aimlessness five years ago to consistent entrepreneurial work.

I feel like something—
Welcome back to another freaking video, guys. I am so stoked for this. This week has been a super, super important week, not only with my life but with the brand. And I've realized a lot, a lot of things, and I've really changed a lot about my life already. Now I know in the last video I was kind of talking about like what I want to change and like some things that I'm replacing, mainly habits like eating habits. Gym, all these things. And my overall posture towards life is completely changing. And this week I've really realized and understood how awesome of an opportunity that I have and that everybody, all of us have at our age. Like, I'm 23 years old and I get the privilege of being in the best time ever to start a business, the best time ever to learn a subject, the best time ever— and the best time ever to build a brand. I don't think many of us realize the knowledge at our fingertips in this day and age. 200 years ago, you would have to go ride a horse freaking 300 miles to go to a library to pick up a book to maybe learn something about business. Right now we have the internet, we have people who have done it, we have people who are innovating, we have people who have done it and are innovating and are currently successful teaching us in YouTube videos. Like, it's insane. The amount of knowledge we have in this time and day is unprecedented. But at our age, we are so blessed with our health, bro. Like the fact that you are not locked in trying to go to the gym every single day and maximize your health at this age and go do stuff outside, go on hikes, go explore and use your body and not just sit around all day. Like you should be doing that every single day. But everyone who actually works out on a consistent basis knows that it 100% has a positive effect on your business. And so that being said, we gotta go on a run. You guys already know we got house music bumping right now. Hope you guys can see that. Running is hard, bro. Running is hard, especially when you're running uphill the whole time and you're carrying a camera. Never done that before, and that was tough, but we got through it, and that's all that matters. Getting that fresh air Getting that, you know, inflammation out of our body, getting that fascia loosened up. It's good, man. It's good. It's good for you. And, uh, yeah, I'm gonna probably clean off a little bit and then get back to work. What you looking at? Um, coffee tables.
For what? Coffee.
Hey guys, so right now it's been pretty interesting spot in the brand, but I want to talk about kind of some processes that I've actually been applying To help scale and then also just get this thing off the floor in general. Because with a custom product, obviously you're going to have to go through and vet, you know, different manufacturers, ingredient suppliers. In my case, I have to have almost 2 ingredient suppliers because one of my ingredients are just like, you have to get that and you have to nail that, that one right. And it's been interesting. I've been like calling up businesses and stuff. I don't usually do that. I'm used to just texting You know, some Chinese person on WhatsApp. But yeah, I'm like calling people, I'm like emailing, I'm really trying to get get this thing going. And we have a couple of really good leads. We have one manufacturer, or I should say supplier, who they source this key ingredient in a really remote area, so it's free of any pesticides or anything. It's all organic, it's all legit, and it's just honestly it's been a breath of fresh air to find him because he's also only 40 minutes away from me, which is like pretty crazy. That would be awesome if I get to go and actually be a part of the process and. Review some things in person. That would be a dream for me. So that's really cool. But also on the advertising side of things, we have actually gotten a little bit of momentum. Nothing crazy yet, but we're getting some spend. And today we actually were profitable, which is a good thing and a bad thing because I know what the product is, I know the formulation, and I'm not gonna waste time and not try to advertise it yet. You know, I'll have to do some sort of pre-order thing or just refund orders, but It's worth the time for me to actually refund people, and in exchange be able to find like winning angles and stuff. Because then once I actually get fulfillment, I'm gonna be able to scale instantly, right? So that's what I've been working on, and we're getting a few sales in now. Obviously, I don't have a way to fulfill them yet because it's a completely custom product. So we're making sure that we're being you know good on the refunds and stuff with customers, and you know trying to be. You know, good in that area. But also taking advantage of the time we have. And, you know, while I'm waiting for responses from certain people and certain, you know, suppliers and whatnot and co-packers, you know, I'm actually going out and taking the initiative and trying to figure out how to advertise this thing. So I'm doing some shopping right now. I haven't ate anything today, so I'm getting some food. But I'm also getting some stuff just for the week. And they had Drizzlelicious, baby. If you guys haven't been put onto this, this stuff's insane. It literally has 120 grams— or I'm sorry, 120 calories per 28 pieces, which is insane. Like, it's like the hack for if you need like a snack or something. It's insane. You already know, ice cream for bears, baby. Healthiest ice cream there is. All right, we got some groceries, boys. So first thing we got, obviously we got the Drizzlelicious. I told you guys about these. I got 3 flavors because I'm freaking fatty. But like, dude, look at the freaking— you see that? I don't know if you guys can see that. It says 120 gram— or calories. 28 pieces. 28 pieces. It's insane. This whole freaking bag is 500 calories, which is like crazy. I got this pizza, supreme pizza for later. Um, I just bought this for now, so this is going to be what I'm eating. I'll show you guys what's in that in a second. And then I just got some burritos, some juice, and then ice cream for Bears. You cannot tell me that don't look fire. I'm so hungry, eat a freaking horse, bro. You guys have no idea how bad I wanted to get a Whole Foods pizza, um, but then I looked at it and it was like 500 calories or something per slice, which obviously I just cannot do if I'm cutting. But in here we have Just some like chicken thighs. Um, I think it's technically jerk chicken. And I have some like some green beans, um, asparagus it looks like, and some like roasted tomatoes with— I think that's, uh, squash?
You may find yourself living in a shotgun shack, and you may find yourself in another part of the world, and you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile, and you may find yourself in a beautiful house with a beautiful And you may ask yourself, well, how did I get here?
So my girlfriend this week started reading this book called The Slight Edge, and one of the things that it talked about clicked so hard in my brain when she told me it. And I want to make sure I relate it to you guys because like whenever I see like even if it's students or if it's, you know, peers or if it's people who are trying to get into e-com Or anyone in anything in life, the biggest thing that I see that holds people back is that they don't put in the time or allow the time between start and success. So obviously we live in a day and age where we're on our phone, right? We get instant gratified super easily. If we want food, we order it, it's here in 30 minutes. We don't have to sit through and cultivate anything. We don't have to cultivate barely anything. And that has caused us to want things instantly and to expect We expect things to come instantly, and if we put in an input or we put in some hard work, that it should come within, you know, the next, you know, like very, very soon. That's not how things work. And the longer you could delay and the longer you can wait to put in work and to put in good work and hard work, work that you have never done before, and then also be able to wait and continue doing that without seeing any sort of success, without seeing any sort of payoff. and continue to optimize and continue to do better, continue to cultivate— is the word they use— that cultivation period is what makes or breaks and will directly translate to how far you're gonna go in this life and how successful you're gonna be. And that's something that is— I've seen immediately from even just doing this, this new brand, is like, I understood coming into this, like, I'm gonna have to take some time. There's gonna be a period of time, which I'm kind of in now, where I'm gonna be putting in a lot of work, a lot of effort, and I'm not gonna be seeing a lot back because I'm trying to crack this thing. I'm trying to figure it out, right? It's not going to be a Kayla Rip where you throw it up and then it scales instantly, right? Like, that's not how this stuff works. Like, we gotta work at it. We gotta continue to put in work and put in effort and cultivate it and wait and be patient and trust in God's timing more specifically. And I think that's the biggest thing I see out of everyone. Everyone is just, you know, they switch products way too fast. They don't cultivate. They don't try to learn. They don't try to, you know, adjust and make things better. It's just, you know, like, oh, this product failed, I'm gonna switch. And you're just shooting yourself in the foot because you never learn. You never learn anything. You just learn how to rip faster.
I hope you guys enjoyed that little clip.
I always love listening to that. It 's it 's so refreshing to hear those words and to understand that. Right now, right now, this time right now is all you need to build and to become successful and to accomplish these dreams that you have. And if you can do that, if you could stop worrying about the freaking past or caring about the past, stop caring about the people who say stuff about you, if you could stop caring about, you know, what's going to happen in the future and how it's going to work out, if you could just focus on now and every single moment every single second of the day, you try your best and you optimize and you get one little, one little percent better every single freaking day, and you keep pushing and you stay consistent, then it doesn't matter what you aim for, you're going to achieve it. It doesn't matter how far you want to go or what you aspire to be, you will achieve it 100% if you do that and you have faith and belief in yourself.
It's not It's—
there's no secret to success. The secret to success is that there's not a secret, guys. There's no secret. It's only work. It's only consistency. It's only belief. It's only the inputs you put in your brain, and it's sacrifice. That's all you need, and you can make it as far as you guys want to go. So hopefully you guys enjoyed this video. I love making these. I hope this one does well, as the last one did pretty good. And yeah, stay tuned for more. This is episode kind of 2 of this new journey of mine and, you know, building out this brand. So if you guys want to see anything else, I can't leak product or anything like that, but I could try to be a little bit more, um, show a little bit more of the brand and what's going on. But, um, yeah, man, I, I truly care about you guys. I love you guys, and I really wish the best for every single one of you who's through that screen watching this video right now, because I was in this spot not even that long ago, guys, like 5 years ago. Absolutely had nothing to my name, you know. I was chopped. I was just completely just aimless, and I had no idea what I was going to do with my life. And I started working one day after another, and soon enough, man, things start to happen to you. And, um, even though I'm successful at my age, I don't view myself as successful because I haven't achieved what I've set out to achieve yet. And so I'm proud of the guy I'm becoming, but I'm not proud of where I am because I know there's so much more to go. I know there's so much more to get, and there's so much more to accomplish, and there's so much more to see and experience in this life. And it's, it's so exciting, man. This life is truly, truly so exciting. If you just focus on the upside, you start You stop focusing on all the BS, on all the negativity, all the politics and all this stuff. Life becomes really good, guys, when you focus on God, when you put your eyes on God and trust in him and allow him— be a little reckless and just go and risk your life. Not like dangerously, but like go take risks, go take action just relentlessly. It's fun, bro. Like, it is so fun doing what I'm doing, even though I put myself in a weird situation where I'm not making as much money as I used to, or I don't have a brand that's, you know, popping off right now. It's fun because I'm taking risks. Like, I feel alive. Like, I feel like I'm actually doing something and I'm actually going for something. And that's the most powerful thing, is the day-to-day right now is so enjoyable to me because I'm aligned, bro. And every one of us can do it, and any one of us can have that. So without further ado, I'm gonna stop yapping, but thank you guys for watching the video and have a blessed day.
Peace.
