Kevin Hart moved from opening act to headliner by collecting emails at every show with a clipboard, then re-engaging those audiences when he returned to the same cities. By his third visit, he had built enough of a direct audience to get booked as the main event.

Kevin Hart, when he wrote his book, he talked about how he made the leap from an opening act in stand-up comedy to being the headliner. And the difference was he captured contact info. And so what would happen is he would go to a city and he's just part of this tour. He's getting paid like $100 to get to be on stage in front of, you know, a few hundred people. But what he started doing is he started passing around a clipboard at each event and he said, Hey, if you wanna hear more, hear when I'm coming back, all of that, put down your name and email address.
Mm-hmm.
What would happen is when he came back to that city, he would email people.
So smart.
He said by the third time they visited the city, he was the headliner. And so he used email and he talks about this in his book of how capturing contact info was the, the key thing.
Yeah. And, and a lot of people do not do this because part of the reactivation is putting that thing back in front of people, um, in a way that they really want it.
