Chapters
Overnight, tens of millions of healthy people became hypertensive. 2017, the American Heart association lowered the definition of high blood pressure from 140 over 90 to 130 over 80. No one's biology changed, only the definition did. This is where the concept of disease by numbers, medicalization of normal life comes in. Manufacturing disease through data. Well, why does this matter? Because it creates false positives. People labelled as disease when they aren't actually ill drives lifelong medication checkups and anxiety and creates massive profit streams for pharmaceutical companies. And ignores that blood pressure naturally varies by age, stress, genetics, time of day and even how it's measured. So what might be normal for you may be abnormal for someone else. And what's healthy for someone else may be unhealthy for another. So next time you go to see a doctor and someone tells you numbers are off and you're not normal, well, check in with yourself. How do you actually feel? Are you waking up every morning enthusiastic to get out of bed? Are you waking up feeling like you want to be kind and compassionate? The moment you don't want to get out of bed in the morning, the moment you start to feel off within you, not because of some numbers, that's when you know there's something wrong and you need to do something about it.
