In this personal recollection, Sue Gilad describes how Broadway felt like an unattainable fantasy during her youth. She worked alongside her father in his Greenwich Village camera store, earning enough money to stand in the TKTS half‑price line on Sundays. Without the internet to preview shows, she would randomly attend productions such as the Torch Song Trilogy, often ending up with the worst seats in the back of the house. Despite the less‑than‑ideal viewing conditions, the experience of seeing world‑class performers onstage was magical and cemented her lifelong love for theater.
