Julia Lipton, founding partner at Awesome People Ventures, took a sabbatical after eight years of telling herself she would quit to start a company. She kept switching jobs and promising herself breaks between roles, but never took one. She realized she had to actually stop or keep postponing her own well-being forever.

I would love if you could talk a little bit about your sabbatical and kind of like your key takeaways from it. Oh man, I feel like everyone I know has gone through some sort of like midlife crisis sabbatical. Yeah, I mean, I think for me, so I went on sabbatical because I had been telling myself this story for 8 years that at some point I was gonna quit my job and follow my passion and like quit my job and eventually likely start a venture-scale company. And I've been telling myself this story, and in between each of these roles— I started working at Quixy while I was in college, so I'd fly between LA and San Francisco every week, so I really didn't have a break, and I just kind of went all the way through. Yeah. And between each of these chapters, I told myself that I would like take a break and focus on how I wanted to spend my time, and I never did. And so eventually I told myself that I had to take a break and do that, or stop telling myself this story.
